Let's Gather Unique Ideas!
Unique plot devices for a new thing, "Incognito"

In the story of Incognito so far, Josh Nathan, eighteen year old from Detroit Michigan is about to graduate high school and move to Florida with his family. He recently purchased a used Flip camera at a garage sale to document his last few months in the stand he grew up in. But the camera seems to glitch out often during the public events he tries to film. At first, he thinks it looks cool and keeps it in. Eventually within the distortion, he notices very strange looking shadowy people observing him from far off, and in some cases, attacking him from in between the frames, not visible during the time of recording. He addresses this in an update video and shows that very old footage of himself and his cousins contain distortion as well.
The one thing that maintains consistent, is that large anoint of water and/or fire seem to attract these people. This includes the periods during or after a rainfall, a pool or lake, bonfires, etc. the water and fire bring about different types of distortion and activity.

Going into planned plot development:
They come from the "Deep". A plane of existence that holds them prisoner. This place's appearance changes with the emotion of the beings within it. When they are content or indifferent, the Deep appears as something such and a grassy midday plain, or lit hallway within a school. But when they are afraid, saddened or angry, the scene changes to things such as dark metal hallways, dimly lit forest pathways, and copious amounts of water and fire. The water and fire present in both worlds allows a part of them to transcend and walk among the alternately living.
A person can practice "shifting and passing". Shifting is the method of being able to peer into the Deep but not enter it. Passing is entering the Deep and being able to move about within it. It can be painful or seamless, depending on the cooperation and concentration of the entities on both sides.
The beings can communicate through several different mediums.

1. They travel within video and images. But only raw versions, like a video disk and a paper picture. This explains the distortion within the old footage. But they cannot enter the images when they are on the Internet. It's a physical limitation just like breathing underwater is a physical limitation for humans.

2. The only thing they can do with the Internet is send messages of voice or text through wifi networks and LTE signals, much like algae travels with ships across oceans. This is almost always encoded, and not apparent at first glance. Like a message in a bottle.

AND THATS ALL IVE GOT.
I may have left out some stuff, but that's my planned story. Any feedback would be VERY appreciated.
