[META] Avatars

Since this game has wrapped up, it would be fun to know where everybody's avatar came from. I'll begin!

Tikal is the mystical echidna girl from Sonic Adventure (aka Sonic Adventure DX on GameCube). (Tiny, tiny Sonic spoilers ahead) The drawing is from a sketch by Sonic artist Yuji Uekawa, which was "inked" and made official-looking in Photoshop by a Sonic fan named Kojichao. The full version can be seen here. (reference)

Tikal shares my pacifist values and my strongheadedness, as well as my firm belief in the underdog.

She has appeared subsequently as a character in the 2-player mode of Sonic Adventure 2 (aka Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on GameCube).

Tikal is named for a city in Belize, believed to be one of the most powerful cities in the Mayan world between around 800 BC to 900 AD. (reference)

Next!

(Edit: Bonus points if you say how you got your name. I was just bored one day and thought "Cherry Cotton" sounded good.)

Even though 99.9% of folks out there will know mine... Strongbad is a web cartoon on www.homestarrunner.com who receives and responds to fan e-mail with a unique blend of flash animation and humor. Some of the other characters on the site are quite a hoot as well.

* edit Daboking was a desparate attempt years ago to find an open name in ICQ that was star trek related, but I was so late into the IM game at that point that I decided to to just base it off star trek. Dabo is a popular game in Quark's bar, and I was always a bit jealous of old Rom, so I thought "I should be the daboking"!!!!

Hmmm... Okay, My avatar's a (very boring) "A" in an 8-bit-style font, with some effects applied to it.

Anaerin is another matter, and I'm not sure to explain it.

Let's just say, Fey heritage, "old" souls, a deep connection to fundamental magick and a translation of "Truth" (Or perhaps, "Honour").

It's up to you wether you take that lot and come up with a story behind it, and wether it should be real or fantasy. I ain't treading on anyone's toes with this one.

Naked Dancing Llama.

(www.frolic.org ... I think it still exists.)

Robynn is the name I use for online gaming (EQ, WoW, ARG's, etc). There's nothing particularly special about it, other than I used to spell it Robin, but had to change it at some point when it was taken.

Well, whenever I've been here over the past few months, there's been too much going on to bother with uploading my usual avatar. What I use on most forums like this one is a smaller version of this.

It was drawn by hand, by a very cool person I know from GameFAQs. He did a lot of drawings of people's imaginary role-playing characters based on descriptions they gave him, and finally was overwhelmed and went into hiding.

My name comes from a character given to me on a MUD long, long ago. (MUD - Multi User Dimension/Dungeon, a text based online game featuring a large number of players.) I was just getting started, and a friend showed me how to play and gave me one of his secondary characters. As I played, Trident developed into my own avatar (even though there were no images in that game... though that probably helped develop him even more) and I took him as my own.

Since then, everything I do online from email to Massively Multiplayer Online games usually bears the name TridenT in front of me. I capitalized the second T on a whim, but kept it as a trademark to separate me from other Tridents running around out there. After all, someone else has the name on Xbox Live already, so I can't be the only one. For no reason other than pure coincidence, my favorite gum and favorite weapon bear the same name. (Speaking of Live gamertags, you don't want to know where I came up with Rokar.)

EDIT: I uploaded it! Look at the big'n, though... it's pretty. ^_^

I don't usually like viewing avatars and usually turn them off. However, for this I decided to make an exception.

Maybe you can guess where it's from.

Mine is rather obscure. Like my forum name, it's taken from my favorite picture book as a kid, Tooth-Gnasher Superflash by Daniel Pinkwater. My avatar is scanned from the book, it's the old dependible Thunderclap-Eight car.

stone eye

Aelith is a 12th centry southern french name for alice and my SCA persona. Some one in another forum translated it as eye_lith = eye stone. and began calling my Stoney(e). I created the Stone Eye avatar myself using Paint shop pro's eye logo paint brush. BTW, I've always mispronounced it as A-lith. Very Happy

I've noticed several eye(cons)

krystyn is my name, and ARGing is my game and --- oh, hello.

My current avatar is of me, and was the photo I used for my Project Mu metadex profile at endgame. It was a spoof on the photo I made for the hackers' October 1st image, and also features the wooden figurine I used for Dina's blog, although it's so tiny in this version that you can't really tell.

I got some people thinking I was being all Woad Raider with the blue over my eyes, but really, it's just a rectangle of greyscale over that part of my face, in homage to sleepdeprivation aficionados. Smile

krystyn, whenever I look at your avatar I think Braveheart Razz

me... hmm... well hopefully you know who it is Smile but I do a great impersonation of Marvin's infamous line hehe... the short of it - one camp I went to many years ago had us making our own t-shirts to have signed and such at the end, and I made two using cartoon characters - one of them being marvin the martian. A year or two after that, I was trying out 3DS MAX, and decided to 'CG'ify Marvin. So I rendered a 3D Marvin with his flag... a while back I avatar'd him and animated the flag...

there's my avatar history. And no, thebruce has nothing to do with the avatar Razz

these are fascinating stories

i've had my name forever, combining my love for Star Wars with my favorite beverage (it appears that top spot is now equally shared with beer however)
around campus, people looked at me funny if i DIDN'T have my trusty travel mug of black esspreso-roast in hand

my original avatar pic was taken from one of the links in the google search url puzzle back in stage 2, it was a pale blue Cortanna-like female silouette emerging from water, i don't think it was coincidence that they chose THAT image for the phrase "waist deep in water"
http://www.fotosearch.com/ART441/aa050736/

my current avatar is an image of Anakin Skywalker from the upcoming season 3 of the Clone Wars cartoon with a coffee mug photochopped into his hand. the pale blue background was a nod to my previous avatar, and a easy way for me to find my older posts at a glance Very Happy

Uh....gee. I found an exploding fireball on some website, and stole it to use as an avatar.

Great story to tell the grandkids, I know.

And before I was told to get rid of it (sniff, sniff), the graphic in my sig was designed by the Radio KoL DJ c00c00c00, and featured my infamous cats, Ramble and Wreck. If you miss it, you can visit it again by clicking here.

Edit: Oh, I guess I missed the bonus points. It's a RL nickname, from college. A play on words of my last name.

I just ganked a picture of Dan Brauer offa the net for my avatar. Very Happy

And I got my name by slamming my head hard against the keyboard and going with whatever letters got typed out as a result.
