I'm 14. I've only posted about 5 times even though I've been in this from the beginning. I've mostly just "watched from the sidelines" and followed the story of ILB even though I couldn't answer any payhones (my mom thought I'd really lost it after I asked her if she could drive me to Palo Alto, CA to answer a payphone somewhere, which, by the way I wasn't allowed to), so I just moped around wanting to participate. And I live only about an hour from San Fierro- er, San Francisco for the "training exercise" and was real exited until I learned:
a.) you must be 17 or older (or I heard you could drag a parent and register seperately (wouldn't that be fun) which was an option, until...)
b.) It will be held thursday, Nov. 4 (great, a school night. thanks)

Oh well, I'll just have to wait for Halo 3. By then I should (if it takes another 3 years to get here) be 17 and have a license and be ready for whatever ARG Bungie has in store (if there is a Halo 3).

But don't be fooled by the age, (read sig.)

I'm 18, will be 19 next month...

I play videogames a decent amount, but usually it's RPG's or strategy games, as opposed to FPS's. I've never played Halo.

I consider videogames a pastime.

I do not own an Xbox. I own a PS2, a GBA SP, and as for my computer, I'm strictly Mac OSX.

I think I owe it to the PMs to pick up an Xbox and H2... I want to for the story... but I'd feel so used if I actually resigned myself to the fact that this whole experience was purely promotional. Perhaps I should read the books instead...

I believe it depends on how you look at it. It's more of a personal feeling IMO than fact.

28 here. Got involved because of Halo, but learned to enjoy this by itself, specially the story.

I'm trying to get my wife (26) to play Halo with me, but she gets motion sickness. Anyone have any tips on how to work around this? I used to get motion sickness, but I got used. Maybe she needs to keep playing ...

Hmm. Have you tried lowering the look sensitivity? And you have auto-center on, right?

We had to stop playing last night, 'cause RoboGRIFF was getting motion sickness, and he's an avid player. You might try some of the standard OTC motion sickness controls. Also, it might help to just look off-screen more often.

I never tried auto-center, since I never liked the idea of using it. It just seems strange to me. I might try this for my wife though.

I actually use higher sensitivity for me. 8, I believe. I'll try lowering this for my wife.

I'm happy she's willing to give it a try again, with Halo2! Let's see how it goes tonight.

I get it pretty bad too, but I continue to play. There are a couple things I have tried that tend to take the edge off, or at least help.
Take a couple asprin before you start playing. I almost always do this.

Drink a few beers during play. Usually when I play with people there is some form of alcohol around and it really helps to dull the senses. Though I don't recommend it if you have taken the asprin before hand Smile

Drink a lot of soda (or caffine Coffee ) during play, though this tends to not work quite as well, I can usually bare it. And the more I drink the more bio-breaks I take and getting up and away from the screen seems to help a bit. God knows I won't leave the controller unless I have to (that is why getting up and leaving for a few minutes isn't listed on its own).

don't start playing if you already have a headache/just hit your head on a wall. Or continually hit your head on a wall/ceiling because you are in an A-frame room and aren't used to it. This one is a killer!! Bang Head

When playing multiplayer, if its at all possible to NOT play on one of the 1/4 screens its a huge help. In fact, I prefer playing the long flat 1/2 screen to playing on a fullsized screen by myself.

never never never go from a full or 1/2 screen to a 1/4 screen in one sitting. Either start on a 1/4 screen or just don't play. Everytime I've done this I have actually gotten sick within only a few minutes.

Best to play at night right before you sleep, that way you can sleep through the coming headache. Even after drinking lots of caffine I've noticed that after playing a game as intense as Halo I tend to fall asleep quickly.

(heh, some of the emote icons seemed to fit well).

I first learned a lot of these tricks playing Twisted Metal 2 for play station. After awhile that game stopped making me sick, but I haven't reached that point with Halo, and I'm not sure if I will. But I'm going to keep playing it anyway.

That's my expierences. Hope they help.

But it's NOT purely promotional. It's clear that the PMs and actors who were involved consider it more than just a promotion...I'm sure they value what they've done for its independent worth, as well as how useful it was to their clients.

And go, buy Sean Stewart's books. You will thank yourself later.

Have you ever tried looking off screen during the Library?

A good way to be ripped apart methinks.

Being a sniper, I can't stand this option.
Plus the fact that you then can't track an enemy while circle-strafing.

But each to their own I guess.

Sure you can; it just takes a bit more effort. I

I played yesterday for ~5-6 hours and I had to take a break after a couple of hours! Nausea was attacking me! Laughing

Now, I don't know if it was motion sickness or it was just too much adrenalin going on, since I started on heroic! After a couple of levels, I realized that was a lot harder than the first game and it would take too long for me to reveal the story!! So I restarted the game on normal ...

I finished the first game on legendary and that was a REAL PAIN, specially the Silent Cartographer. People are saying that legendary on the first game is a lot harder than the first one ... Cool

Yah, 15 hour game fest for me yesterday, midnight-3PM. I fortunately do not get sick at all.

Also, just wanted to say thanks to all for the response to this question/poll. It's very gratifying to see that I was right about this group, we're not just a bunch of crazed 19 year old gamers. Rolling Eyes

Nope, some of us are thirty-something non-gamers. Smile

Although my actual age falls under two age categories here...bad pollster! bad pollster!
