Fantastic sleuthing kieto, Pictish and pia!!!

If the "prize" is splittable in three pieces, you are all equally well deserving.

Tidbit- The chosen passage from Psalm 111 has Ta-da! 111 letters.

A well thought out puzzle with several layers. Kudos to the PM.

Alright, so, progress.

I messaged E.Nigma with the word

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Titania

asking him if that was the answer.

He replied that 'indeed it was', but I must explain ALL of the puzzle, including the things which E.Nigma did not give me/us.

I've done a long, rambly kind of explanation, covering everything that we've covered so far + a bit more. This is what I mentioned, roughly. We'll see whether it's confirmed or I get stopped at the final hurdle...

---

Below the cut is my messages to E.Nigma. It contains the Byron clue, the fairy clue, and an explanation of the original picture with its nine-pointed star and the moon. If mods take notice, please note that this spoiler contains previous solves.

EDIT: And is now an actual solve, being as it was confirmed by E.Nigma.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Quote:
Edward Nigma: If you can FULLY explain why that [answer is the fairy's name] is... going beyond what I have provided you... then the prize is yours...

Ket Ruckus: The cipher is overlaid on two pictures: a picture of a moon, and a nine-pointed star...

Previous comments that have been given is the name of 'one along
'... Titania is the eighth largest moon in the solar system, i.e. one along from nine...

The references to prayers and songs are about psalm 111, the forest, treachery, and other references to such are in relation to A Midsummer Night's Dream...which you have given...

Also, the nine-pointed star shown in that image is the Baha'i nine-pointed star, which represents unity... 'all', as mentioned in the rhyme accompanying the original image...

The Byron clue - 'I had a dream, which was not a dream...' points to 'Midsummer Night's Dream, which isn't truly a dream at all...'
And the title of that poem is Darkness...and in relation to the moon and the stars, we are in the night and the dark...

the first nine lines of the poem Darkness are all relevant to A Midsummer Night's Dream...

And the one who says 'out of the woods, do not desire to go," is that queen of magic, betrayed by treachery, that powerful queen who at the end helped to unravel the tangled mess...Titania...

------

And that is the end of my explanation, although I could go on further about Byron and 'unravelling', I am unsure if I have need to.

So...the above massive spoiler is counted as a 'solve'.
I got almost everything, and only missed one thing, which E. Nigma did let me know. I won't put hints to the last thing specifically, in case people are having fun trying to solve that challenge.

I won a prize...

Would someone else please claim it? I'm moving out of my house relatively soon, starting a new phase of my life. I may not actually be contactable in about three weeks or so. Since the package will be travelling internationally - I'm in NZ - it may not actually reach me. It would be best appreciated by someone else. Could someone else - Pictish? Pia? Booba? please claim the prize? Or at least give me a name I can refer E.Nigma to/through/on from, so he knows it's my choice to pass the prize on?

Bingo. I'm sure you're right. I'm such a [bleep]ing moron -- I had everything else two weeks ago, and never noticed that the first words in each line went together. Cursing Cursing Cursing

[Aside: This is why I prefer collaborative ARGs to competitive ARGs: if I'd posted Nigma's poem on October 24 you'd have found the answer the same day.]

Edit: Or I could read the next page of posts and realize that the answer has already been confirmed. Me = even bigger moron.

Well, she is.

That being the case, Pictish, please let me know if you'd like the prize? I'll let E. Nigma know to send it on to you...I'm sure he has your address from a previous puzzle solve?

Edit: Shad, you're not a moron. It's understandable. I missed out one thing though. You're actually in a position to find that last thing. It's a final confirmation of why that name was the correct answer. E.Nigma's got a few new posts up, one of them has the hint.

Edit 2: Does the congratulations message from E.Nigma normally contain clues to the next puzzle? Because I'm sitting on a document that he sent me. I don't know whether it's relevant or not. If you think it is, I'll post what's in the message...but it doesn't seem to say that much.

Wow, look what happens when I stay up late trying to solve a puzzle, then have to go to sleep!

I messaged Edward at 2 a.m. PST with the answer (right after posting it here), then went to bed. I woke up about an hour ago to his message to explain fully, then I checked here to find that kieto had taken the information and run with it. Fantastic job, kieto! I never even thought about the significance of that pointy star graphic!

To redeem myself, I have found the final hint.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It's an acrostic:
Out of this wood do not desire to go.
*T*hou shalt remain here whether thou wilt or no.
*I* am a spirit of no common rate.
*T*he summer still doth tend upon my state.
*An*d I do love thee. Therefore go with me.
*I*'ll give thee fairies to attend on thee.
*A*nd they shall fetch thee jewels from the deep,
And sing while thou on pressèd flowers dost sleep.
And I will purge thy mortal grossness so
That thou shalt like an airy spirit go.—
Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed!

I also found a little something extra:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is a butterfly called Bolora titania, commonly known as Titania's Fritillary.

Edward says I was second place, and took my address to send the prize. I will share it with y'all the second it arrives, because this really was a group effort. I agree with ShadO, it's much more fun to collaborate than to beat one's head against a wall alone.

Speaking of beating one's head against a wall, ShadO, you had this stuff for two weeks? Wow, that'll teach me to avoid anything to do with the Bible (past trauma with sexist clergy). I had been trying to match those verses with the Lake Poets. Oy...

kieto, Edward sent me the document, but I think you should be the first to share it, since you were the actual winner.

All present and correct
This is amazing – you see?

Receive now the prize!

Note that the name of this image is not relevant, and neither is the blue background. I recoloured and renamed it to upload the thing.

(How do you get the properties thingy to come up?

Yup. I sent Mr. Nigma that Scarlet Letter Bible link on October 24. He replied, "and...?" And I said, "And apparently my mind still fears missing the wood for the trees." (Which I did. I mean, c'mon, how much more obvious could it have been than "SHE HIDES INITIALLY"? Bang Head Bang Head Bang Head )

By the way, GRATULAR (the acrostic from your giving-your-answer poem) is apparently Catalan for "to congratulate." Who knew?

Edit: Another post from E. Nigma:

Edward Nigma wrote:
A name is found with ALL of the clues provided
Can those who know finalise what they've decided?
Can another slide in at the last
To line up on the prize, in their grasp?

....

I think this means he's waiting for kieto to state formally that he(?) is ceding the prize to Pictishwitch?

I state formally that I am ceding the prize to Pictishwitch.

I've said as much to Edward in a private message, and he's confirmed that statement with Pictish.

No, E.Nigma's post, about sliding in at the last, was posted right after I sent him a message with the fairy's name. He put up that post at the same time that he sent me the message asking me to explain everything.

In that sense, I'm the one who slid in at the last.

In terms of the timeline of people sending in the answers, he'd had your answer for weeks and weeks, and Pictish had just sent in the answer. I don't know about pia or booba, they might have had the answers in as well. You guys just hadn't explained enough, fast enough.

I only 'won' because I did my explanation really quickly after sending him the answer. If I'd gone to bed, Pictish would have won first place.

Ah, that makes sense! I hadn't seen the post before and didn't realize it was older. (Obviously I also failed to look at the date...)

kieto wrote:

Oh, no, he didn't. I never had the answer, and I knew it. (I sent him the link just so he'd know I was working on it and had made progress, not because I thought that was in any sense the answer.) I'd extracted the nine-line poem, but never figured out that simple last step, instead wasting my time with increasingly convoluted manipulations of letters and numbers trying to find something that would clue a female name. Have I mentioned the word "moron" recently?

Why am I still blathering about this? I must be really really annoyed at myself. Mr. Green

Part of it is probably the lack of something else to solve, so you're going in circles mentally about how you could have. Hindsight = 20/20, after all.

Is that all there is to solve, by the way?

And now we wait for the next puzzle?

Not necessarily. If nothing else, I believe Lucy is still waiting for some input at http://www.yourworldoftext.com/inthedarkness

Well, we've got to decide on a time / place to meet up with Lucy / Callum, and discuss the next step.

Pictish, did you write the thing about WORDPRESS, or does that P.W. stand for Password?

I just left a message on that ywot.

Edit: Never mind, next riddle's up.

Quote:
The next puzzle for you to attempt
Will fill some with glee, others contempt
Frustration abound will occur - it's true
But when will this occur? Up to you...
For each person who clicks Like on this
A day removed from the Advent-urous list*
The more the merrier the singers chime
So its up to all of you for 'release time'...
Current publishing date: November 29*
28 26 24 22 20 18 16 14 12 10 8 9 11 13 15 17 19 21 23 25 27 29
[updates daily]
*please note: Whilst there was a slight usage of one religion in the last riddle, the use of this date is merely purposeful, not pushing any agenda etc! I like to keep the riddles secular... !

Edit 2: Never mind, it's asking about the release date of the next riddle, which is likely somewhere in December. Moar likes! Sooner puzzles!

Yes, I wrote the Wordpress suggestion with my whole name, but Lucy shortened it. I also just went on there and seconded your Tumblr suggestion, because I had totally forgotten about it, and realized it would so easy to hide among the teen fandom blogs. (Why yes, I do have a 15-year-old)

Yes, please, go like Edward's post so he'll post the puzzle sooner! Cool Geek
