Seeking Postproduction and Kick-In-The-Pants Specialist(s)

Call me Jin. I live in the Chicago suburbs, I'm 19, and I'm working on a Slenderman-based ARG. Sounds relatively simple, right? Well, it would be...if it weren't for two things:

A. As much as I like my project, I have motivation issues. I'd really love to actually be able to finish something I start, and I have a good feeling about this project, but I'd really appreciate having someone to talk about the project in its entirety with and to give me a good kick in the pants every once in a while when I start slowing down.

B. I don't have good editing software. It seems expensive, and I don't really know how to edit besides. If I need to, I will learn and buy something, of course, but if there were any people with some experience with video editing and software out there who would be willing to help me out, I would be forever grateful.

In return, I can offer:

A. Ideas for your project(s) if you're stuck. I've always been good at that. I love stitching up holes in plots and finding contradictions, too!

B. Scriptwriting--If you would like, I have samples of my scripts to show you if you want to see something before deciding whether or not to help me. I'm also an avid roleplayer.

C. General camaraderie/a listening ear. I love making new friends on Skype and would probably love to meet you.

PM me or comment here if you're interested in either capacity. People who wish to apply for either or both positions needed are welcome.

I would love to support you, I'm working on my own series now and I should finish in August. So do you have ppl involved in this? If not that's fine, I was just wondering. Here's some tips though that I thought would be helpful to know when I first started with my series. 1- need a story 2-need a descent camera with good audio (and when making your own audio, audacity never failed for me) 3- need friends and maybe even parents involved to make series look credible 4- need time (lots of it) 5- need cool places to film, possibly abandoned sights---although be careful because I almost got arrested trying to film this abandoned crane.

Although this isn't really much for 'tips' it may help..? When it comes to editing software I use After Effects which is really friggin expensive, but I got mine for free with following some u-tube video that got erased a year ago. I use Windows movie maker a lot, but if your serious about this I would take time to figure out how to make cool glitches and effects---which a lot of ppl may think is important but in my opinion all glitches and distortions are just 5-10% of the problem, the big ones are good acting, a cool story line, and possibly a cool slenderman(if u can make one, or have someone dress up like him) So far I'm making mine and its hell to stand up so my advice is have someone just dress up and save yourself hours of torment.

Just thought I'd respond because I remember when I first started and I was lost, hope this helps! Wink

Thanks! The ARG actually isn't about old Mr. Slim anymore--it's mutated almost beyond recognition, but I think it will be better this way. Slendy's been used quite a bit. I have a couple of people who I talk to about the series, and two people who might possibly act in it at this point, though they're both "maybe"s.

Update
Because I'm still interested in this.

As time has passed, I've realized my needs have changed somewhat. Is there anyone in the Chicago area (more specifically within driving distance of Northern Illinois University--not that we'll be using the university itself, but it's not far from there to where I live and I want to give a good landmark for where you'd need to go) who would like to act in my ARG? I'm still also looking for possible video editors as well.

I'm looking for one female role, one male role, and two roles which could go either way (or somewhere different altogether, if you wanted to play a character as nonbinary/are nonbinary yourself). If you want to work on this project as an actor (not as a video editor--since I'm not planning on any actual adult material, if you can do a good job on editing, I don't care how old you are), you have to be either 18+ right now or 18 by summertime, when filming is likely to begin. This isn't because I don't believe underage people can be good actors--it's just what I feel most comfortable with, as I don't want the canon failed romance (between the female role I'm looking for and an of-age male who I've already found) or any possible romance sideplots/fandom shipping to be illegal. On a similar note, I'd prefer an upper age-limit of 30, though that limit is more flexible and can be bent if you look younger; again, I'd prefer to avoid any creepiness factor caused by age gaps.

More information about the roles and storyline can be obtained upon PM. I will say this, though: The ARG is no longer directly about the Slender Man, though there is tangential involvement and the general style will likely be similar to that of a Slender Man ARG.

Jin, having done short video things, before, a few tips:

I use the paid version of Wondershare Filmora (Windows), as it's got pretty much the same features as the Mac editing software (can't remember what that one is called, but it's probably After Effects) and is considerably cheaper.

I wouldn't find actors on UF, since this is mostly a PM/players site. Go looking for actors looking for work to put on their resume, then act as their referee for future jobs - the Internet has lots and lots of resources, freelancers, and people looking for work! Editors are there too, albeit the quality of video editing goes up with your budget. Ideally, find a film student or something who's willing to do the editing for their portfolio, but the best editors willing to work for free or less money are those who've finished college (and now they're looking for jobs).

If you're finding semi-professional actors, 'creepiness factor' doesn't play a part - they'll do their job. Think of your casting as though you're the casting director - no personal stake. But I agree with the 18+ rule - personal maturity is good. The same professionalism applies to finding sites, general production, and directing it. Produce it/direct it to the best of your ability, professionally.

Everything FallenSeven said is true, and keep in mind that PMing ARGs take up a lot of your personal life and time as well - you keep monitoring the progress of your players. Puppetmaster teams are handy in this way - someone can monitor it in case anything suddenly comes up!

If you want more tips and things for the production of a semi-professional video, send me a PM. I'm around to provide a supportive and listening ear as well.

Do you have a name yet for your channel, I would love to subscribe so I can check it out later when you do start posting videos. I know promoting your channel is frowned upon on here, personally I don't care, but you can PM if you don't feel comfortable about posting your channel's name on here

Thanks so much for the support, you guys! I'll definitely contact you both. This is a project idea I've had in mind for at least a year now, and I'm so happy to be finally moving on it, even if it has mutated beyond all recognition at this point.
