 Mistaken for an ARG?
Has there ever been anything posted on Unfiction, or any other ARG site that wasn't what it seemed?

Has there ever been anything posted on Unfiction or any other ARG site that was thought to be an elaborate game, but, turned out to be "real", as in not a game?

I don't think too far into the game, most of the time we figure it out soon enough.

But we've had games that have crossed the line- My Dad's Tapes early on we had a few scares, but we all eventually came to our senses.

there was that one...it was- Storm Drive, I think. We thought it was for The Matrix sequel but it wasn't.

And ow, the Society for Paranormal Investigation is having some issues with "Is this really just a game, guys?", but we are all just pretending that it is, for the sake of it (and there are hints that, yes, it really is just a game with a LOT of pre-planning.)

since we're bumping an old thread anyway, i'll add a reply to the original question.

All.The.Time.

Many things on the internet are just weird for the sake of being weird, but that doesn't stop people from trying to solve things that were not intended to be puzzles. Sometimes an art film is just an art film.

Then there are cases of things like that perpetual-motion energy company Steorn which was real, but sensible people couldn't believe they weren't joking. Sometimes a commercial delusion is not a hoax.

And we've had more than a few quasi-religious, semi-occult sites brought to our attention because they have all the trappings of past games. Sometimes a sincere belief is not a game.

If I mention any of the other quagmires by name, it will only dredge up bad feelings. Sometimes our moderators intervene for our own good.
