Thank you for screen and maybe it's really false alarm.
But in some ways cute. They write to shop owner via every order confirmation.

UPDATE. Or:

This is a story 'bout a John. Who works at Swamp Pop as ordinary worker and his only task is to forward the orders to customers. Like Stanley.
Then he gets to know a French girl, has a crush, then - BANG! - it goes nuclear (respective NY, not John and his girl), he catches the Swamp Pop boxes and goes into his shelter. Alone, without his cheri. Because she's in Paris.

We clearly see a house out the window of the bunker, so unless that's a tech error (which I doubt) the bunker is NOT under the Eiffel Tower.

As for the whole "it's cashing in on product placement" let's put that one to rest already

And these, for curiosity sake Smile

We don't clearly see anything out the window it's pretty blurry. In fact there's a reddit post that makes a stronger argument that it's (The Cellar script spoiler)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
John Gallagher's pick up truck

But yeah, I have a hunch the Paris stuff might end up being important only to the storytelling/worldbuilding of this movie, but not necessarily an arg (unless the tidoo stuff comes back into play). Firstly, I'm convinced it takes place in Lousiana. It's where it was shot, it's where Goodman is from, it explains the swamp pop and the all the combination French/downhome decor - which if you've ever been to the area is pretty commonplace there.

More The Celler spec script spoilers:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
John Goodman's character has a missing wife & child. While the decor of the bunker isn't mentioned in the script (and wouldn't be - scripts don't specify that stuff, they leave it to the production to figure out) I feel like the Paris stuff, the teen magazine, the kids board game, the "home sweet home" signs - are all establishing a middle aged woman's touch and a child's presence. A wife that is absent in the bunker. A daughter that was taken away. I think that all we are meant to take away from these props appearances is the feeling that something (or more accurately someone) is long missing.

We could speculate that while the wife is dead in the script, that she was rewritten to, say, fulfill a lifelong dream of moving to France . Or maybe the daughter who moves to Washington in the script instead runs away to Paris and becomes involved in Tidoo. But it would just be speculation.

Lol, Virtuallyquinn, interesting!
I wonder how "canon" are SP games with us.
I don't hope, Bad Robot would say to them: "do, what you want, play with customers, we grant you freedom if consequences"

Thank you, gimlet. Haven't still read the script, but the story is hearttouching

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Perhaps he sees in Michelle some Ersatz of his family?

You're welcome! And yeah, exactly, that is heavily implied in the script.

It's kinda frustating, while we know the movie is going to be quite different from the script, a lot of this speculation could easily be put to bed by just reading it. I understand why you wouldn't want to, I'm usually very anti-spoilers. But this is all such a puzzle (and has been puzzling me for days longer than the rest of you keep in mind) that I read it and frankly? No regrets there. It's a *good* little psychological sci-fi story. Very classic Twillight Zone.

EDIT: which now that I'm thinking about it is actually interesting given that the Director Dan Trachtenberg didn't like the original Cloverfield and found it in particiular to have poor storytelling, unlikable characters and a lack of emotional gravity. It kinda makes sense for him to pitch reversing the process and finding a great story about interesing characters first, and add in the blockbuster stuff after. It's the opposite of the first Cloverfield. I think it actually has potential to be a much more fufilling approach.

We will all have to agree to disagree on the farm house, because I think you are seeing what you want to see as I am sure you think about me. If it is a pick up truck, it is against a big square wall with decent lighting, and a triangle above it so... Yeah. The point I was making was, it wasn't the bunker under the Eiffel Tower.

As for the "product placement" people are asshats if they think swamp pop doing a cute tie in is a douche move, or if they have a misconception that either SP is trying to "gamejack" or that JJ/BR told them to make these changes for shits and giggles. It's a basic cute tie in to entice people to purchase from them.

virtuallyQuinn - for all your "product placement fail" stuff, gee sure looks like they got a rush of customers from 1 little trailer huh? I would say that's kinda the opposite of a fail. ANd you don't know that the labels aren't clearer in the actual movie.

The movie's not out yet. This is all off the trailer. And no, they didn't get squat from the trailer.

Nobody figured out Swamp Pop from the trailer so the argument SP set all this up based on a rush from the trailer is nonsense. Nobody would've found Swamp Pop at all ever off this trailer alone.

Somebody outside the trailer, on a social site saw an image one of the cast or people working on it posted. Pure meta. That's what led people there and the shelter supply was already up.

So they did not rush to do this upon the trailer release anticipating somebody would recognize their product in the trailer and rush to the site to check it out.

It was set up in advance to coincide with the trailer.

I got swamp pop from the trailer. Sure, it was t always label visible, but it did get visible enough for good Google-fu. A lot of people got it from the trailer, especially people who drink it. also, you dramatically didn't get what I was saying last post. I never once said SP made the tie in after they got a rush of traffic, I'm not saying SP didn't pre-set the tie in, obviously it was made to coincide with the trailer releasing (which also strengthens my "there was no trailer leak"). I'm saying they set up the tie in, and with permission. And they did get a rush of people from the trailer dropping. Thanks to the trailer, and the people convinced every small detail means something, they got people buying their products (soda AND shirts) who never would have heard of them before. But I am certain that had they not put a cute tie in on their page, there would be less monetary activity. It's not a douche move, it's a corporate tie in, it is sponsorship, and it can go both ways. For all we know, JJ/BR/DT was given permission to use the soda in the film provided SP was allowed to use the film's buzz for their own marketing however they decided to do it. it's possible.

See, that's where you're totally wrong. I read Reddit when people first found Swamp Pop in the trailer. They recognized it in the trailer because they've seen it before in stores. There's actually a bunch of times you can see the label clearly in the screenshots.

And then we all went to the website and checked it all out including the store and found nothing. There was no "shelter supply" there at the time. It happened about a day later. Long enough for Swamp Pop to figure out what was going on and troll us. I know this because I checked myself. So did lots of people.

Now that doesn't mean it's not in game. It still could be. There's nothing that proves anything either way. But it didn't happen like you think it did.

The more interesting thing about Swamp Pop is that these days no product ever appears featured in any media without the express consent of the product's parent company and usually a contract of some kind between the studio and the company. It's the whole reason Slusho came into existence - fake products are standard in Hollywood productions so they don't have to get lawyers involved everytime somebody goes grocery shopping. Swamp Pop is absolutely in the trailer for a reason. That reason could be as simple as JJ/DanT wanted to give a shoutout to a local comapny. Or it's an ARG. We still have NO idea at this point.

Actually it looks like MTV Europe. It was updated in 2016, but created 2013. Probably OOG.

this statement is ridiculous.

As for the site: I no longer remember, was Tagruato not in English? With the exception of the post-film manga for Cloverfield, usually marketing by an American film company of an American film tends to be in English. However, the poor translations I can make of that page, while hysterical and fishy, don't scream anything to do with this.

The site is still up actually.
