I hate to be the one to talk about swag, but it has historically been a part of movie/videogame ARGs. These puzzle pieces are off the shelf standard fair. BR has an incredible workshop and loads of talented ppl that have produced swag that was original and unique to the experience. You could frame it, show it off and talk about how hard you worked the ciphers and puzzles with the community to earn it. BR workshop could have even make a custom Eiffel Tower puzzle, that would've been nice. I don't know what to think of these puzzle pieces in terms of "collectible swag".

Again, sorry for being the one to talk about swag.

What's the point then? I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I am just really curious.

yes, I agree. I have lots of stuff I picked up from dead drops (Project Abraham, Mark of The Spiderman), completing puzzles online (FLynn Lives), and simple stuff from Mission IceFly and many others. This I would not consider true ARG swag but just a cool little collector piece.
I also would just like to comment that this is at least a taste of what a lot of us went through 4-5 years ago in the heyday of ARG's. It has since fallen on hard times it seems and yet this could restart the love and use of ARG's.

P.S, Im still salty that 42E didn't sent out our special prize for completing The Mission Ice Fly ARG. Those of us who completed the entire arena with 100% completion were told a special gift would arrive. None came!

I completely agree with you, but how do you account for Swamp Pop sending out puzzle pieces with their products?

The puzzle and Eiffel Tower imagery were clearly visible in the trailer. So were their bottles. None of these things present new information.

Hiding a clue in puzzle pieces randomly mailed to people hundreds or thousands of mile apart seems overly complicated to begin a game with less than two month before the movie opens.

Unless 'someone' was, shall we say...'monitoring' a certain forums 10CL thread (said forum having a long-established, well-respected record for 'accuracy in ARGs') and keeping an eye on how the players were responding to 'breadcrumbs' provided...especially when one considers that todays 'social media' moves much, much faster than it did eight years ago. I think that's exactly the point, seems like it's just a cute thing to do by Swamp Pop to try and keep a certain movie tie-in with the new costumers but ultimately it won't amount to anything we actually want to see, which is a new ARG, given the short timeframe we got.
Someone suggested (and I think it's a good idea worth looking into) that there might be a hidden message under a black light, but that would still imply there needs to be a lot of pieces to be gathered by massively purchasing orders, a win-win situation for Swamp Pop but a lose-lose for us because we would need to spend a lot of money, and would have to cooperate across sites, in order to get them all. And it wouldn't be in time either, 7 weeks are left.

So... the Reddit group kind of scares me but I've been following over there a bit now, and it looks like something new has been found:

https://www.reddit.com/r/10cloverfieldlane/comments/42hfa6/interesting_string_in_clover_twitter_image/

Apparently in the binary of a recent poster image in a tweet by @10CloverfieldLn are some strings that (mysteriously? somehow? It's not clear) led to a ham radio site:

http://qrzcq.com/call/G5MC

that contains a downloadable wav file: http://www.file-upload.net/download-11213911/EiTo.wav.html

that, when the spectrogram is 'read' visually (not clear on how that is done either, but i know you can embed stuff that way)

gives the message "SOON"

Some of the leaps of logic are not clear to me, but if legit this could be additional confirmation something is afoot.

I was going to post the reddit thing, but I see somebody got there.

I'm not sure I totally understand how they found this, but what makes sense to me is this: it's the backwards of the previous ARG. Its opposite land.

It's a an image hidden in a sound file hidden in an image.

As opposed to a image hidden in a sound file.

Somebody even suggested if a sound file was hidden in the poster on Reddit and - of course Reddit called the user stupid.

But something curious:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedetectives/comments/40k271/portal_2_abyss_might_be_having_a_arg_at_the_moment/

!!!!!!!!?????????

Ooooooookkkkkkkk... Somebody help my brain calm down and help it to understand that what it thinks is happening isn't happening. Because it's flipping the heck out right now.

IS THIS HAPPENING? It can't be? Right?

Either somebody is getting two consecutively running args accidentally intertwined... Or....

Valencia. It means ORANGE.

They kinda take the weirdest leaps of logic I've seen. For what it's worth, the "Call Data" of the file is "Last update: 2016-01-15 18:00:51", so it was not set up afterwards, but I don't know what to make of any of that data yet, specially since Twitter changes the image data once it's uploaded. Nowhere did they say they used the largest available source, most likely
Code:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CYw0iUsU0AAgVJ8.jpg

Instead of
Code:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CYw0iUsU0AAgVJ8.jpg:orig

Which is the original upload. And to be sure, I would've tried the posted image in the official website, not a picture posted to a CDN associated to Twitter and prone to changes.

I've downloaded the Twitter picture and opened it up in TextEdit and I can search through and find the string "G5MC" in there, so it's not like they made that up. But I don't know how you would have known, amidst all the other binary gobbledygook, that this was the crucial thing to look for.

Maybe JG's Wife is French?

Hey everyone. I haven't read the script to The Cellar yet, but from what I've been told there is information about JG's wife in there. I saw the wedding ring, and assumed that she died in whatever is happening above ground.

Anyways, with all of the French stuff, including the books, posters, and even MEW's shirt, which I'm thinking isn't actually hers, I'm wondering if JG's wife was French.

To anyone who's read the script, is there any of kind of French mention regarding her?

They meant 'read' quite literally, danteIL...I looked at the picture.
