Okay, I've got to intervene here. Not a single second of 10 Cloverfield Lane was shot on IMAX, it was shot on the Red Epic Dragon, which is a digital camera. It's only being released on IMAX, even though that's just a dead giveaway of what kind of spectacle we can expect at some point in the film, the 5 million budget is probably a smokescreen (or dates back when it was supposed to be this self contained indie flick)

Despite my fascination with technical details, I have no access nor full understanding of these processes and decisions, but I can definitely agree the budget of 5MM is a smokescreen, based on the fact that it was reported many years ago before Bad Robot fully took over the project. The same goes for the script, there's definitely no way the script has remained the same as its current form indicates, they must've worked around some of the basic groundwork but it's a different beast now, and that surely must have had an impact in its budget among other things.

To play devil's advocate a bit here, it's worth noting that Paranormal Activity was also released on IMAX, so budget doesn't necessarily reflect the amount of money needed for such thing. We are talking, however, of Bad Robot here.

Yeah yeah, someone else mentioned Paranormal Activity on Reddit for the IMAX thing, but that's still an exception. It is, and that's what we have right now, you just have to think about it logically, 99 % of the films released on IMAX have some form of visual spectacle in them, just is.

Combine that with the Cloverfield affiliation, with the fact that Michelle is definitely going to go outside at some point, that we've got people working on this film that have worked on big blockbusters, that we've got a creature designer, that we've got the walls shaking in the trailer which is not in the original script, the barrel thingy (parasite?) that is not in the original script either.

Anyway, this will have some form of spectacle, whether or not it'll be restricted to the second half of the film, or third act, or last 20 min is something we'll find out on D-Day. It is very exciting ^^

That's the thing. JJ is one of the very small handfull of directors who has shot in real live, honest to goodness IMAX. Bad Robot is one of the few Production companies that has worked with IMAX not just regularly, but on almost all of it's recent projects.

JJ is a truer than true old school film geek who once got hired as a kid to clean old cans of Super Eight for Spielberg. I have a hard time believing he would give the go ahead for a project with his name on it to get slapped with an IMAX label despite not really really being Imax worthy. Just for a few extra bucks. Immediately after directing the biggest grossing movie ever.

I have a hard time believing it...

But stranger things have happened...

And seem to be happening.

My point is less that this movie has got be in true Imax because I have no idea, and more that secrecy is rampant with this project, And any paranoia and twitchyness we have over this lack of information might just be by mystery box design.

I mean we can't even say for sure if it's in IMAX despite it saying so on the poster a month before it hits theatres. That's ludicrous.

It's a sequel(ish?) to a movie with a famous viral marketing campaign that seems to have a distinct lack of a maketing campaign at all and have absolutley nothing in common with it's forebearer and dropped into our laps a few weeks before its release date unbeknownst to absolutely everyone on the planet expect for those involved in the making of it (and even some of them may not have known just what they were involved in).

That weird edgey alarm we are all feeling that normally tells us "Hey! Something's off here. This might be an arg!" has gone off because there are absolutely secrets being kept from us. They just might not be Arg secrets. We might have to wait a little while for those hidden things to start getting revealed. Thankfully, the movie comes out in little more than a *month.*

IMAX Stuff

I don't know exactly how much it costs to shoot in IMAX, but I do know that it is very cost prohibitive.

As an example, The Dark Knight, a high-budget, blockbuster, could only afford to shoot a few key scenes in IMAX.

I don't buy the $5mil budget, but I don't buy that they had enough to shoot the whole in IMAX either.

Surprised

She's trying to get a signal for something.

Or she's trying to start a new "dungeon selfie" trend. Laughing

Well, if anyone could start a trend like that, it's the totes-adorb MEW...!

Swamp Pop just uploaded a new image. There's a map of the Atlantic Ocean hidden in the background. That orange slice looks to be centered over Chuai Station.

The scales of the countries are kind of different.. probably has to do with Mercator projection stuff (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection)

It took me MULTIPLE times looking at that to realize the dark was the ocean and the light was the land, I was all "where the hell are they seeing a map in that???"

and even then it was only thanks to Unclear lining the two pictures up LOL I think a nap is in order over here...

Does it bug anyone else that the poptails image is so sloppy, and the underlay sticks out on all four sides???

I wish they would frakkin respond to my email already!!!! I may re-send it....

EDIT TO ADD: I don't see THAT image in the directory you linked to SquirrelNoises. I see the Poptails part, but nothing with the map. Care to link directly to the image or explain to a layman how you got it?

I think I can help clarify... The darkened image was created by me originally and I put it on reddit first (unless Squirrel also created one using similar steps). The wp-content folder had two very similar images: cocktail-glasses-instagram.jpg and Parisian2.jpeg (and resizes for them). We noticed the Parisian2.jpeg had some sort of overlay/stain on it and using GIMP I was able to get it to show a little better. The underlay sticking out is because the 2 original images are actually slightly different sized for some reason, and I used both images to get that result (one was a blending layer for Grain Extract).

EDIT: My explanation sucked reading it back to myself.. In shorter terms:

These images were added today:
http://drinkswamppop.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Parisian2.jpeg
http://drinkswamppop.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/cocktail-glasses-instagram.jpg

I combined them using a Grain Extract blending layer to make the map overlay in Parisian2.jpeg more apparent, and THAT is the image that Squirrel has posted.

Hope that helps!! Very Happy

It took me a second to see the map too, especially on the original because it's incredibly faint. I'm not saying that this is a clue to anything, but there is a map faded into the back. It's almost like two pics layered on top of each other. It just seems weird to me that they would have two of, essentially, the same picture (one of which will probably end up on Instagram soon), and not remove the other.

Also...I really wish they'd respond to my email as well, alas, here we are waiting.

No, that is the directory I already stated squirrelnoises linked to. I originally assumed the picture he posted was directly from that directory, and now i'm of the belief it was modified which is why I am not seeing it there.owever, that modification could be something that highlighted what was already embedded/hidden - and if so, i want to know the process so I can repeat it. I need to know how A became B.

EDIT TO ADD: Thank you unclear!!!!!
