That's clearly the Eiffel Tower.

But that's not where the Eiffel Tower is. This might be an Eiffel Tower replica -- in Japan!

Did someone already say this?

I'm pretty sure this is a small replica of the Eiffel Tower, and it's sitting in front of a window, or possibly a postcard. I don't think this is actually any monument, but rather just a toy/souvenir. I think the importance is more about the Eiffel Tower, and not the location of it.

Okay, but the representations of the tower in the trailer are Paris. MEW's shirt says 'I love Paris' in French.

The fact that this is IG is suggested by two things - back-reference to the first page's beads; the left out beads spell MEGAN.

And the Eiffel Tower. Each clue is something discernable from content, not deduction or lateral thinking. All other depictions are the REAL tower, I think the gift may be related to what that is. It's staring us in the face, I bet.

Looking at other pictures on google, I TOTALLY think that could be what that is {although I agree it could also be a post card, but if so, it is a post card of the Eiffel Tower replica in Tobu World Square}

Hey folks. I was relatively active in the '07 game, so I'm excited to see some new stuff. Congrats on figuring out that the movie isn't about Voltron and that there actually is some sort've game in less than 100 pages in the thread.

So, question. I kinda just read this entire thread so this may be trout due to overload or a weird thing in how my iPad loaded, but did Goodman's haggard picture load up on both Howard and Annika's EOTM photo on the Feb EOTM page for anyone else?

EDIT: Pictures are different now. Must've been me.

Which would make some sense being that Howard Stambler at some point would be in Japan if he were working for Tagruato there..

Radioman

Others have mentioned that Howard's t shirt that led us to radioman70.com and thus FAPT is a reference to an old Navy rating for those specializing in communications technology.

I looked a little closer at Howard's shirt (http://tagruato.jp/images/feb/employee4.png) and noticed two things: There is an apostrophe in front of 70, as in a year abbreviation, '70. Second, the lightning bolts to the right of '70 are in fact the same lightning bolts that were the Navy rating insignia for a Radioman. You can see those lightning bolts on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioman

I don't think that gets us anywhere, but it's clearly what the PM was thinking and fits Howard's mention of his Navy experience in the letter.

I can't tell when this was created, but The Navy and 70 connection made me click "like".

Didn't he solve a communication problem?

I really think the looking for other Eiffel towers is not gonna pan out in this particular instance, although it's good to be aware of them. It really looks to me like just a small toy/model in the picture on FAPT, and the hills behind look really familiar to me - I think they are just the Hollywood Hills.

There is still a pretty easy connection to make to Japan if you want to stretch to it - the worlds most famous copy is in Tokyo, just like Taratugo's HQ. Tokyo tower.

And of course Paris is still important. A reference to the Eiffel Tower is always ultimately a reference to Paris, no matter if the version you're looking at is in Tokyo, Tennessee, Las Vegas or Orlando.

I stop looking at the forum for a few days and I come back to see 10 extra pages, wow! This thing exploded and in such a beautiful way! I've already read every post until this point and I think I am up to date. Still don't quite get how we got until the employee of the month thing, but now that we've arrived to what it seems to be an IG page, it's time to start cracking the password (the part that I enjoy the most).

What was the secret gift I gave you on your 13th birthday?

Just so I'm clear, are we focusing right now on the Eiffel tower picture of the site because it's the 13th picture? http://funandprettythings.com/img/images13.jpg
I've tried variations of Paris and the Eiffel tower to get past that prompt, sort of assuming he took her to a trip to France or something like that, it could be the hint since there are so many Eiffel tower pictures in that bunker and he might be really preoccupied about his daughter to have all these things hanging over there.

My interest in the picture is that it's a fraudulent Eiffel Tower in Not-Paris.

Everywhere the Tower is depicted else in the trailer -- the Tower is the one in Paris, and is legit. This Tower is possibly a toy, a keepsake, an ornament, a music box, but looking online there are replicas sold at a Japanese grocery store Jakka that resemble this one closest.

Howard was in the Navy when his daughter was 13 -- he references Soviet things he 'witnessed' -- If he was in the Navy in an era of Soviet naval activity; we're talking the 90s and he was probably based in Hawaii or Japan I'd bet.

The gift, in my opinion -- has to be related to this photo somehow. Every photo in the set that isn't STOCK is something pointing to the trailer, or information we could get without hacking anything. It's a puzzle. With no pieces missing, it should be solvable.

I hope that the picture is something to do with it -- but I'm not easily persuaded that just because it's a picture of 'An' Eiffel Tower (it isn't, it's likely a toy or something smaller) -- it should be dismissed as circumstantial that it is both NOT in Paris (when all other indicators of the Tower ARE referring to the Paris Tower) -- and NOT an actual structure.

Bah. I don't have the time, or ability to muddle with the levels of the photo to look for hidden things. I just don't think this is a throwaway or hand-waved thing because it's 'wrong' while looking 'right'.

I've been sifting through https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Eiffel_Tower_replicas and trying to match it with the scenery around the picture, but none of them seem to resemble it. I know there was a replica not listed on the wikipedia article that is in a park in Louisiana, someone, somewhere on the thread posted it with the coordinates but I'm gonna have to look through many dozens of pages to find it again.

Something that jumped at me while reading the letter was:
Quote:
I'M SORRY ABOUT HAVING TO DECEIVE YOU WITH THIS SITE, BUT I NEEDED TO FIND A WAY AROUND YOUR MOTHER'S INTERFERENCE, AND WERE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. NOW WE CAN TALK IN CONFIDENCE WITHOUT HER FINDING OUT. IT'LL BE OUR LITTLE SECRET.

And the thing about a "secret gift"... This guy is an expert in radio and satellite communications, as he has been in the Navy he should've been well used with ham radios and encryption methods, my theory is that, not too unlike Contact, he might have taught his daughter how to use these, in a way to communicate with her from afar. I don't know the exact timeline of him being in the Navy or if he was present during his daughter's birthday or not, but he should have been in the US before or right before 2000, because that's when he built the bomb shelter; and if he has been working for Tagruato/Bold Futura for 7 years, he should have been in the US as well from 2008 to the present.

Either way, I get a feeling the secret gift is probably related to communications of some sort, after all the Eiffel Tower was also used for radio communications, and this is a pattern that keeps repeating.

Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention, he calls her "Radiogirl", so they must have been communicating secretly that way. But how?

Also - the letter page has two blank links -- the word chat is supposed to link to some javascript -- that isn't there...and the words 'Keep checking this site'. Error out as a blank javascript function when clicked and the console is open.

Looks like this puzzle IS missing some pieces.

 Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is used for radio/TV Communications (like most tall tower-ish things), including one with the USNO. There's probably no significance there, but I found it interesting. Question

OK, people, letters do matter.
For example, missing letters on the right build the l name MEGAN.
The whole picture composition is indeed a key

Secret gift...

One of the photos on Fun and Pretty is a teen magazine. The cover may hint at an in game band Megan is into and the gift for her 13th birthday may have been tickets. They may have kept it secret from the mom if she was opposed to her daughter going to a concert that young. That is what I am working on right now.
