Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Considering how Halo 2 ends, and how little screentime Earth actually gets, I wonder if Halo 3 will have more obvious connections to the Bees. As far as I can tell, the events of Halo 2 were over a fairly short period of time, maybe a week. I guess we'll have to wait till 2007 to find the 7ruth...

Ok as far as what the artifact might be:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When the prophet mentions the ark, it is a widely believed spec that it might be the earth/lunasystem, or the ship they take off of High Charity in the end. My [SPEC] is that the ark is the artifact that is in Oni. They say the ark is the key and the only way to start the Great Journey. We also find out that there is a remote device capable of detonating all Halos at once. We also know that it seems only humans can operate forerunner devices. (Index etc. maybe that it the case with the ark/artifact) We know from ILB that the artifact was a "timer" of sorts and when activated and de-activated it sent out a EMP blast. Could it be that the EMP blast was actually a HIGH powered radio transmission that was meant to be able to travel lightyears in order to communicate with every Halo installation? And when activated it turned all Halo systems to standby and then when deactivated it returned them to normal dormant status. If the timer was allowed to continue the artifact itself would not have blown us up, but rather the blast of every Halo Installation at once would have killed us.
Also there is a biblical reference to the ark. Some have noted that it might be a reference to Noah's Ark. Um.... not that I'm a theologist but.... Ark and the COVENANT are looking for it.... i.e. ARK OF THE COVENANT!!!!! DOH!
Just my 2 cents.... after how many posts... how much money have I dropped in here anyway?

From what was said during the ILB in-game dialogue during the Chawla Base infiltration, I have assumed since those clips that the artifact WAS
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a remote control for the Halo Installations
After all, they basically stated that in the sound clips, didn't they?

yeah, but if you activate the halos from the ark, the artifact would have had to be on the ark the whole time, not just recently... i think the device was more like a beacon, that's why the covies didn't expect to find us all here... rememeber, cortana's comment was that they didn't expect to find our homeplanet when they arrived here...
and i need to talk to someone about the ending...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it just blows my mind they'd stop there... oh, and keep watching through the credits, there's another cinematic after all of them

yeah, but
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm pretty sure the prophet didn't say they have to begin the journey from the Ark - the Ark IS the key. And when they asked where it is, I took the MC being at earth not as a sign that earth is the Ark, but that they returned to earth because that's where the Ark IS. It was clearly stated by Durga that the artifact was related to the Halos, not just a beacon... I believed ever since I heard the cinematic that they returned to earth to defend the artifact, which we know from ilovebees is on earth and when activated, begins the countdown to detonate the halos. The side effect is the massive EMP burst which is trackable by the Covenant. And the spec that the EMP burst is actually the detonation signal makes sense, except for the fact that the FR would have, I'm sure, sent the signal by slipspace, not radio... then again, the blast echoed through normal space and slipspace, so it just may have been that powerful, even though the signal itself was sent over slipspace...

Good Grief Charlie Brown!!!! Does anybody read previous posts before posting? I counted 3 posts that re hashed what I had in my post lol
'Tis the problem with spoiler blocks - no one wants to read them for fear they might learn something they most likely know already if they have finished the game lol

Not a really a spoiler, but a Halo 2-ILB reference in case you want to see it for yourself: When the credits roll after you beat the game, a seperate message after the thank-you's appears and say's (roughly)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"And to a whole bunch of people we didn't have room to 7hank."
Pretty darn cool huh? I guess that could mean:

I co-!opped last night and got all the way to killing the Heretic. The whole Arbiter storyline is really intriguing. Are the zombified elites those that have been taken over by the Flood? I fully expect to be over at the guy's house A LOT during Thanksgiving Break.

It's not a Carneyhole - those crop up in MP maps (Carney's an MP level designer).
It is, however, an interesting item. Apparently there are skulls like this in different levels, and when you pick one up, they grant you strange abilities. From HBO:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Envy:
Activates: Active Camo w/white button for MC
Found on: Delta Halo; Legendary
Iron:
Activates: +Defense
Found on: ?
Angry:
Activates: +Offense? OR 3 weapons (someone confirm)
Found on: High Charity (someone confirm); Legendary
Blind:
Activates: Lose Hud, Guns, etc.
Found on: Outskirts; Any Difficulty
Grunt Birthday Party:
Enemys die and explode or you shoot plasma grenades (someone confirm)
Found on: First level you play as the Arbiter; Legendary

Also,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is secret mp map called...........I totally forget. But it is all over the gamefaqs forums. Supposedly you either
-beat the game on legendary or
-Do a move in a banshee (similar to a barrel roll) that has a secret button combonation.
This unlocks a secret mp map.

Specifically, it's a reference to all of Bungie's numerous fans through the years, for whom 7hanks and the 7ruth have factored in significantly. Though now they can include the ILB'ers as complicit in their plans for world domination.
