Hurry up and get on Live so we can suck together. I need a partner in suckiness. Wink

I'm still trying to figure out the ranking system myself. Anybody have any insights on what exactly bumps it up or down? I seem to vary wildly, anywhere from a 2 to a 5.

There's a whole big article about it in the FAQ over at bungie.net. It's pretty complicated, and it has to do with what your placing is in a game and what the level is of the person you beat.

I just checked my account again, and it looks like I've been bumped up to a 7. Screwy

I think the reason angelo is only ranked a 2 is because he's been playing mostly custom, nonranked games. Am I correct? I've been playing with people outside of the beekeepers group, so I've been in some ranked games, and my score was bumped up by my play there.

Likewise. My Xbox (and XBL account) are still in the mail, but RoboGRIFF rountinely beats the pants off me --and he tells me that he's not really that good.

This wholesale slaughter invites a new question: why aren't we (KirstenS, Phaedra, me, others) using the handicap feature to level the playing field? I admit I haven't even tried to use a handicap. Wouldn't it be more fun for everyone if it were uniformly difficult for everyone to kill each other? Are we too proud (see also: stubborn; see also: foolish) to admit that we need a handicap? Or, is it just too hard to figure out what handicap settings to use? For example, I wouldn't want to set my shield strength so insanely high that I couldn't be brought down by a scarab blast, but how do I know what that setting should be?

I have a few days to play Halo 2 on a loaner modified Xbox, until my new one arrives. I'd love to have handicapping sorted out by then.

It's entirely too humorous when I die for me to tweak any sort of settings just yet. Smile

Plus, I am getting the first glimmerings on how some of you play, and that's gotta help, yah?

Last night was a slaughterfest. I think I'm going to try some matches with people that are more at my own level for awhile. I love you guys, but multiple 0 kill games in a row just get very frustrating. I'll be around though. Smile
I understand. Maybe we should have some training sessions... Wink
I really like this idea. I can do some target practice by reloading parts of the campaign, but it's not quite the same. I can imagine a system of exercises to practice vital skills. For example, I really need to learn how to aim and fire a head shot while I and my target are moving. I can imagine canned scenarios that run like mini campaigns, so you could practice on them over and over. Think how powerful this would be if there were team-specific exercises to run. Perhaps, a clan could develop a set of scripted exercises that everybody practices, individually and in teams. Anyone ever heard of such a thing for Halo?

That's correct. If you look at my stats you should see that I've played a total of two ranked games, so I haven't played enough ranked games to really reveal my true inner ranking... (I'm see myself as a 3 hehehe...)

I remember a while back an article on HBO where a clan had made two 'training videos' of basic skills in halo. A lot of them would carry over to halo 2. I'll have to see if I can find those videos and review them to get the pertinent info.

Darth Guano, maybe we should make a basics guide for some of the less experienced players? Also, I'd be willing to host a training session, where a couple experienced players could walk through some levels with less experienced players and assist with some basic skills. If you're interested feel free to pm me and we can set something up.

I joined the Beekeepers group over at the Bungie forums, what else do I need to do to get in this clan? Also, thanks for the people sending me friends invites thus far. Once I get things figured out I'll be joining you guys for some games. I got worked over last night on some matchmaking games.

almost forgot my gamertag, it's mike the knife. Anyone feel free to add me who hasn't already.

We're really not a clan. Just a group of people that get together to play. If you have any of us on your friends list you'll be able to get into our games.

Ok, so I'm really thinking about laying out some basic training stuff. Drseuss has offered to help with the training. Darth Guano, you interested in helping out with the training?

I'm going to write up a basic training guide. Listing some manuvers you should know, weapon selection, defensive strategies, offensive strategies, and a list of ways to practice. Any one that has specific things they do that would be beneficial please pm me and I'll add that type of info. By far the biggest thing that will make you better is playing with people that challenge you. Clearly Krystyn going head to head with me she probably isn't going to learn much just cause I'm a little bit better then her, but if you will play with people that are on the same level or one or two levels higher, you'll really gain skills quick.

A buddy of mine came over to play last night and check out halo2. we played with Fauxhammer, Nova, and a few others. He was really amazed with the level of comunication. He said "Its like you have your own little digital sub-society....", in reference to unfiction and xbox live. I just thought I would share that with you guys.

Crying or Very sad

I totally beat MrZarquon in a head to head! I think it's that I get overwhelmed at all the chaos - this is the first time I've -ever- played multi. With Halo 1, I only did campaign, and once or twice did a split-screen against someone else on one of the maps. I think weapon choice is also a huge weakness of mine - I'd be totally trained on someone (usually drseuss or thebruce, iirc) and shooting for several seconds longer than them, and yet I'd be the one to die once we'd gotten face-to-face. It truly baffles me every single time. (yes, dual wield, yes, sometimes getting some grenade shrapnel into the mix)

My one and only 1st place! Smile
