Mine, you may have seen

I used the same site to make mine, but it didn't look as much like me as I had hoped. So when Melissa made me "Cmdr. Ariock" I figured I should modify my avatar.

I first added a little premature grey. Then I busted out some serious geek-fu and altered the shirt from the avatar to look like a starfleet engineer's uniform with a commander's rank. (As if you didn't all already know that...)

Amazingly enough, before the SF training event we were collecting at the 4th St Bar and Deli and when I was ordering my beer, Aliendial recognized me from my avatar.

That site that hmrpita linked to also has links to do full body avatars. Those are fun too...

As for the nick, I think that was well documented elsewhere.

That'd be Mr.
Yeah, after numerous trials I've found that aiming for vowels tends to give more recognizable names. Razz

I could really waste a lot of time on that Portrait Maker.

I am appalled at the lack of top hats and white masks.

well, to get back on track... (:

i made my avatar myself because i got bored one day, and my name has a story, kindof...

i used to be blackvipr1 (on aol... yeah, stupid, i know, but i was just some little kid who wanted a cool sounding name) but that normally gave people a wrong impression (did i own a viper (car or snake), and then as the internet began to be dirty, it became obscene)... so i wanted a name that still was dark-sounding, so i went with darkmoonz (i think darkmoon was taken already)... and every now-and-then, i'll go by darksunz if i have more than one name somewhere... and what suprises me is that i'm apparently the only darkmoonz out there (almost every google of my name comes to my webpages/posts/etc.)

My avatar wasn't originally supposed to mean the StarCraft archon. I originally had used it during my Quake/Moo days (Moo meaning Marathon Infinity), and it was my homage to the Commadore 64 game of the same name. StarCraft blew up and I played it and everybody started to take the nickname as their own. Assuming that I intended it to be based on the SC unit, I eventually just told everyone that's what it was from, because I think archons are cool and my (destructive) personality is similar to theirs...

Archons are one of the most powerful infantry units in SC, and can only be made when two Protoss Templars are ordered to merge. The way the story behind them goes is that although archons are enormously powerful warriors, the price for that is that they will burn out and die quickly after achieving archon status. Typically regarded by the original Protoss on their homeworld of Aiur as the strongest fighters, their memory lives on in their archives.

On the more serious front, Archons are equated with Aeons, which in gnosticism is a celestial power of a high order. In the Ophitic system, there are 7 designated archons. In Jewish Mysticism, Shamshiel or Shemuiel is "the great archon, mediator between the prayers of Israel and the princes of the 7th Heaven". In Manicheanism, Archons were "Sons of Dark who swallowed the bright elements of Primal Man."

Truth or... ?

All information from paragragh 3 there was taken from the very cool "A Dictionary of Angels" by Gustav Davidson.

that site rocks!

i had to add the earrings though, they didn't have simple silver hoops, just big dangly things (of course you can barely see them now anyway)

this site is cool too, you can make your own superheroes:

CoffeeJedi,

I used to have a link to the superhero one on my old computer. It is fun too. Thanks!

I had no idea so many people were going to find making avatars so much fun. These are two I made long ago: ponytail me and grrrrr

For the latter one, I used this site (clearly the one HitsHerMark used). Smile

this one of me is remarkably dead on:

Head shape, facial hair, glasses, etc. are exact. The hair is a bit poofy, but just pretend I haven't gotten it cut in a long time and it's perfect.

Thank you for a fine afternoon's distraction at work Very Happy

dookyweb

Aliendial,

You will have to do a screenshot that you paste into an image editor to create an avatar, I believe. That is the only way I have been able to get it to work myself...
