Better late than never Cherry!

Got a response from Magister:

Quote:

Subject: We begin...

We begin with A for Roman Emperor.

I assume it's a Caesar cipher. I'll give it a try when I'm on the computer.

The capitalisation is a bit odd.

Tried a simple caesar and various keyed or vigeneres using as many emperors beginning with A that i could find including:

augustus
antonius
aurelius
alexander
Aemilian
arcadius
avitus
anthemius
anastasius
artabasdos
alexios

no hits so far.

**Edit** a little tweet from pergamum which is a quote by

aurelius

Woke up to an email. Now the official Keeper of Knight of Swords with the request to send my own artistic rendering. I sent a further email asking if my card rendering can be reversed. I see others have submitted non-reversed imagery. Waiting on a reply.

EDIT - the answer is yes you can submit a reversed image.

Quote:
Yes, of course you may submit a reversed image. I'm delighted that you asked!

A word about reversals:

Some believe that these are a negative manifestation of the energy or interpretation of the given symbolism and meaning in any card. Others believe that reversals show that the meaning and symbolism is the same as it is for an upright image, but it hasn't yet fully developed, is in the process of developing, or is somehow being blocked.

The important thing it to use your instincts when reading and interpreting reversals.

Faithfully Yours,

Winter Sylvana

Another Aurelius quote tweet from Pergamum...

I've tried everything I can think of, but that isn't saying much considering I am not the best at decoding

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Aurelius as a keyed Caeser with a shift of 22 yields "fromuzonrkonlykrpyfroytdwwjrfmlhi" with a visible from and only but I can't make anything of the rest of it or anything else I have tried

Also Winter is nudging us to look again at the Hallows Hidden page....

I did it, just by stabbing at it with my tools. the key
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The key is just BCB
which gives me the answer
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
thebluebirdcarriestheskyonhisback

which seems to have nothing to do with the Roman flavor text. I'm not even playing the game, just noticed you had an unsolved cipher, so I can't explain how the flavor text applies.

Brilliant job catherwood!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's a Gronsfeld cipher with 121 (or BCB) as the key. 121 is the year Marcus Aurelius was born.

EDIT: I also believe I figured out the "Hallows" post

So, Catherwood, thanks. Since I am playing this game I'm mentioning the magister email is an actual cipher with a logical key:
Magister email solve
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a Gronsfeld Cipher with the number key 161 (Marcus Aurelius' birthday) that reads: thebluebirdcarriestheskyonhisback

Maybe someone still wants to send the answer to the Magister? It's a quote from Henry David Thoreau

amandel has a typo in the above spoiler, in case that's what you sent. The correct number is the spoiler by Christmas above. Carry on!

I didn't feel the need to include that info in the email, but thanks anyway.

Awesome job on finding the hidden pages, Christmas!

Is there a concise summary somewhere of what has happened so far? I read all 8 pages here and I'm no more enlightened than I was to start. Is there an actual story to this?

Hi Cherry

Most of the storylines are taking place on the Fool's Children site: http://www.foolschildren.com/stories.html
and on Carina's blog site:https://librarymusingsblog.wordpress.com

It started with the emails that were sent to a few people, posted at the beginning of this thread. We are just now getting to the point where pieces are starting to fit between the different story aspects, so you haven't missed a whole lot more than backstory yet.

Thanks - I *think* I'm caught up now after reading the Library Musings page. The only thing I'm still entirely confused about is how people got stuff in the mail.. did you submit your address somewhere?

I signed up, became the Keeper of the Knight of Swords, submitted a picture and got a response entirely different than it seems anyone else did and that response actually seems OOG. Here's the response I received to my artistic interpretation of the Knight of Swords:

Quote:
Oh, this is fantastic. My first thought was, "Oh, no, you didn't..." but then I thought, what an apt representation of this card. I'll add it to the site right away! Smile

No formal greeting like the other emails, no formal closing and yes, that smiley was part of the email.

The old Cardkeeper website (https://cardkeepers.wordpress.com) has a contact page with a place to enter a physical address. Most of the info there pertains to part one but was recently posted on in Feb.

Winter interacts very personally with her Keepers at times. I imagine she was tickled with your card interpretation.

Ahh. I didn't play Part 1 of all of this. as for her response to my picture - I was expecting a response asking me to submit something else since this was the representation I chose:
