Crying or Very sad

I totally beat MrZarquon in a head to head! I think it's that I get overwhelmed at all the chaos - this is the first time I've -ever- played multi. With Halo 1, I only did campaign, and once or twice did a split-screen against someone else on one of the maps. I think weapon choice is also a huge weakness of mine - I'd be totally trained on someone (usually drseuss or thebruce, iirc) and shooting for several seconds longer than them, and yet I'd be the one to die once we'd gotten face-to-face. It truly baffles me every single time. (yes, dual wield, yes, sometimes getting some grenade shrapnel into the mix)

My one and only 1st place! Smile

I'm right there with you Krystyn...I only play Campaign on Halo, and I don't really play alot of mulitplayer games period....I always end up getting owned because I pick weapons that work great against the covies, but apparently not against other spartans Smile. Sigh....I know I for one could really use a nice guide to help me in my suckitudinous...ness....Smile

Nicely done. Was that a timed match?

I believe so. 8 minute match, it looks like. I don't think we had a kill limit. We were both trying to get used to the map, too, and it's a pretty big one for two people. Fun, though!

Everyone was amazed after the match that I pulled that off

P.S. Is anyone else bummed that there isn't another verision of "Hang em High" in Halo2?

Well, I'm not the best player but I have some moves that I could help some people out with.

As far as campaign levels to pratice in try the levels that contain
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the flood
(sorry about the spoiler tag, I'm not sure who has finished campaign mode or not). They act more like real players because of the way they move.

Anyone notice how slow work has been since tuesday? Lol

Two things:

First, in a multiple player situation, say team slayer, you need to look for the quick kills. Quick kills would be people that are in a fire fight currently. Probably 50% of my kills are on people that just entered a firefight with someone on my team and I finished them off before my buddy could, or people that just finished mowing down my buddy but haven't had a chance for their shields to reload.

But beware, these are also the situations you will be killed in a lot. You'll be in the midst of a firefight with one person, and their buddy will suddenly appear beside them. One of the best ways to stay alive (in my experience) is to drop a grenade while backpeddeling around the closest corner. This gives you a second to recharge your shields and consider the best way to take on this double threat (which may be to run and look for your team).

Second you need to stick with your team. I noticed that beginners like to just run away from their team and try to take on the enemy alone. This can work if the other team does the same and you are better then every one you are opposing, but it will quickly break down if you run into a group of enemies (three smgs pumping lead into you full bore takes you down in a second) EVADE.

While I was looking through your stats in that one on one match I noticed a couple of things. First your hit % is really high. It seems in one on one matches your accuracy improves considerably. Secondly, you bash killed the guy 3 times. Those weren't stealth bashes, but middle of the fire fight bashes. One question, what was happening each of those three times you hit him? (ex: out of ammo so I had to hit him, he just got close to me so I hit him, accident, I don't know, etc.). I haven't yet reviewed the map to really see what was going on, but I will when I get a chance.

(I fixed the quote tag for ya! -k.)

I find that while dual wielding, I will often drop a weapon when I get close to the person I am shooting at, just so i can bash him and finish off the kill. I'll only drop the other weapon when I am exactly close enough to make contact (btw, when you hit the melee button, you automatically drop one gun).

The most frustrating thing for me is that I thought I was actually a decent player. In the Halo 1 LAN parties we've been to, Dane and I have spanked the competition pretty soundly. Even in the Chicago training, when I played with those 7 other people, I was the leader until about 2 minutes before the game ended (I think I ended up 3rd out of 8 ). We flew through the campaign in a day. I don't know what my problem is with this game. Is it that I'm not used to the weapons and maps? Am I just freaking out when playing with people I don't know well? Is it just that everyone we've played against around here sucks royally and I'm just marginally good? I'd say yes with the latter except for one thing: Dane is getting at least twice the number of kills I get in these games, whereas in the LAN parties, we were pretty much head to head consistantly. My most common problem with these games I've been playing with you guys is that I'm not watching my radar well and I'm getting popped in the back (or plowed over by a vehicle) a lot. When that starts happening, I get upset and frustrated, then I start shooting wildly, then everything goes to pot.

UUUGGGGHHHH! Any suggestions?

Edited to add: Dane thinks I have performance anxiety. Wink I'm going to jump on later tonight if anyone's going to be around. Should be interesting. We're going to a wedding this evening, and there's an open bar at the reception. *gurgle*

I think the bashing is because it got to be close quarters. I've been practicing melee a lot in the campaign, and I think I am finally having fun with it. I was never brave enough to do too much of it in H1, for some reason.

It also seems to disorient people, even if they're expecting it - it physically moves them, so that if they're trying to mow me down, they lose their sights a little bit, and have a lot of confusion suddenly filling their screen. Smile

I was going off alone a bit in the slayer matches, because I could never catch up to anyone - the maps were super-confusing to me, and I'd suddenly see a rash of red dots on my radar and high-tail it somewhere else. Also, I got into a really bad habit of getting to that lonely high spot and weakening people in Ivory Tower, picking them off and lobbing grenades, so that my team could finish 'em once shields were down.

It's a theory, anyway. But then, lo! Along comes angelo, who has figured out my little trick, and he kills me at least 5 times by floating up there and smacking me but good. Heh. Smile I know now not to do that any more.

When we were doing CTF, I was much better - there was a specific goal in mind, and at least half of the people were not trying to kill me outright. Also, except for one extremely fiery crash/rocket launcher incident, I am not bad at the warthog driving. Gotta feel useful somehow!

Just a tip.... Dont be afraid to die. There is no penality when you die except that you don't get the kill you were working on. Some of the best players I know often have a higher death count than kill count, and somehow they still end up topping the leader board.

i know what you mean Kirsten, i thoguht i was an ok player but now when i hop on Live, i contstantly get whupped. There have been some good tips pointed out in this thread so maybe i'll take those to heart. I also think it's just plain unfamiliarity with the maps. oh well, practice makes perfect. The beekeepers I have played with so far have been so fun(especially the team games)!!!

I have not been able to play on any xbl, and if this is trout, I am am hungry anyway... have you all found sneaking useful in multiplayer? As I have played with some friends system link, we noticed that you DO NOT appear on enemy radar when you creep along at a crawl as opposed to full out run. I have gotten quite a few kills sneaking up behind snipers watching their radar and scoping who never saw me coming.

Number 1, and I can't stress this enough, don't get upset. I am an uber competitive person. If I'm losing it is extremely tempting for me to just go beserk on the next person I see, but when I get in that 'ticked off' mode I suck. I lose all focus, all I can think of is the score, and I get owned because of it.

I think you are a 'decent' player. I'd actually say you are a bit above decent Wink, but the thing you have to begin doing is adapting to the players. That is where I think dane is trumping you. What I've found is this. When I play with my buddies that I've been playing with for the last 2 years I know their strategies. I know their nuances. I know that if rosie spans near the base on blood gluch he's going to run up stairs, grab the pistol, jump the hole, pick up the sniper rifle, take two steps left, scout the field, then either attempt to cap someone in the head or warp if no one is in plane view. So what do I do. I pick up the sniper, hop through the portal, climb the hill, and center my recticle head level over the pistol and wait for the poor guy to step into my line of fire.

You have done the same thing, maybe not in such freakishly minute detail, but you have. You have designed your game to counter theirs, and you've copied and pasted that game to online play vs. people you've never encountered. That's where the problem, in my opinion is. Understand this is just my best guess, judging only from what you've told me.

daboking you're right. If you sneak slow you do not show up on radar.... it's hard for me to sneak i've found, once my trigger finger gets to itchin, it's clobberin time!
