I researched the forested area in question.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The coordinates are either exactly at or very close to a site where 7 female bodies were found in 1987. These were the victims of Dayton Leroy Rogers, and they are referred to as the Molalla Forest murders. However, those murders were solved long before the 1998 newspaper article (which we still aren't totally sure is real) would have been published. Could have something to do with a copycat killer, or something else along those lines. It's clearly more than just a coincidence.

Seems a little tactless to cover material like that, and a little unsettling. But, hey, maybe they'll extrapolate farther away from anything real.

New codes and a near future date were posted by "anonymous" on the comments section of the main post. Well, one is actually a repeat: it's been posted on YouTube . I was only able to decipher one of the codes.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It refers to the Laughing Song, the music used in the background of the YT video, recorded in 1898 by George Johnson. Remember, this would be exactly 100 years before 1998, which is a date the author keeps singling out as important.

I actually figured out the code.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It reads "My spellbound is free of charge."
Also I figured out the next page. In the newspaper portion if you click, "this is your only way out." it will take you to an amber alert message that begins with a title card that says: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. 9876543210 times. soy." followed by scrolling text with an encoded message.

Found the next page based off of the video. First decoded the text:

Now the issue is that this is meant to link to the quick brown dog sentence in the video. However, the colours were too washed out for me to do this. So I used some deduction assuming it would link to a nationsquid page and guesstimated the letters leading me to

There was probably some mistranslation or a spelling error that lead to one of the letters in the last word coming out wrong (not sure if it was my fault). Easy enough to correct though leading to
Haven't had a chance to look at this page other than to check that there is something there. Will report back in a second.
EDIT: Appears to just be repetition of some odd sound with some text on the screen that says loading. Don't think it's actually loading anything. Audio analysis isn't my strong point but that could be the next road we have to go down.

Decided (after waiting a while) to give audio analysis a hand. Downloaded file converted to an mp3 and ran through an audio analysis program. This is the spectrogram output.
I assumed this would lead to
but it doesn't appear to work, at least not yet, it leads to a 404 error. It could be that the PM has not caught up to us yet (could be what loading was referring to) or that I'm missing something (I assume the latter).
EDIT: Seems it was an error and it has been fixed. The correct url is
EDIT 2 Seems to keep working and not working for me. Might be my browser.

I believe that's just how the webpage is set up. Pretty sure every other webpage in the trail so far has that. Probably just a bodge job in the coding. Also, as the last page said loading, I think this is likely to be similar. As the last page was not loading anything I don't suppose this page is checking any protocols. Although I can't see anything obvious that may have a hidden code.

Page has now updated to a load of binary code that makes a beach ball. Decoding this gives a lot of gibberish apart from a reference to a link
.
Tried to do some steganography work on it but to no avail. Would be interested to see if someone else can find anything.

Well, I only looked into it pretty briefly but a few things stuck out.
1) I did a little research on teapots with holes in the middle, but brute-forcing answers related to teapots came up empty-handed. (For reference, I tried "Teapot," "Hall Teapot," "Chinese Teapot," "Donut Teapot," and "I'm a little teapot." None of those are the answer)
2) I poked around in the source, but found nothing. I'm pretty bad at source-related things, though, so someone else might want to double-check my work there.
3) I copy-pasted the image into a text doc and started piecing through it. It LOOKS like you can parse out some Morse code if you delete a lot of chaff, but I hit a brick wall pretty early on. I went from the top of the teapot downward, and got some progress, but nothing intelligible. Eventually, it became really murky and I gave up. This felt like the most promising lead I found.
I hope some of this helps. Keep up the good fight!

This is a clear link to the teapot ascii picture. It gives us some things to decode. I believe the base64 was gibberish (although I may have mistranslated it because my internet is playing up and so I couldn't view the video in a very high quality). The hexadecimal translated to a series of numbers which in turn references letters in the alphabet. It translated to

I assume this is a reference to this string of symbols

but couldn't figure out what to do with it.
EDIT: Edited to remove accidental cheating.
