As a nice shoutout to people who have read the novels (and as part of me hopes, people who have played ilovebees), one of the marines in the beginning of the game shouts, "This one's for Reach!" as he's killing Covenant. I didn't notice this until the second time I played through the campaign.

beat the game on legendary and the words "Coming February 9th" appear. Lots of people are speculating that its going to be H3, but that doesn't seem right to me.

Halo 3 being released doesn't make much sense. No way Microsoft would have allowed something like that to go unpromoted until this late.

I'm betting it's some sort of bigtime multiplayer download. I would guess additional campaign levels, but Bungie said somewhere (i think i quoted it in this thread actually but i'm too lazy to look) that there wouldn't be any downloadable campaign elements.

There is no way in hell they would release H3 on Feb 9th.

It's been confirmed that the Feb 9th is a rumor, and nothing more.
Halo.Bungie.Org got the official word from Bungie Studios .


Now, as far as downloadable content/second half of campaign, we have official word from Frankie O'Connor, the community guy from Bungie (who wrote the Weekly Updates). He switched those updates to be called the Weekly What's Updates, and on Friday's, he answers the big question:

I can imagine this conversation going on in Bungieland, right after the release of Halo 1:

Jason Jones: "So, how about we finish up the whole Halo series. We can make another Halo, and set it on fire with ninjas chasing it really fast through a hospital zone."

Bill Gates: "You can't do that. If the Halo series ends, we'll never be able to sell Xbox 2!"

Jason Jones: "Okay, how about we pretend like Halo 2 will wrap up the Halo series, and then end it halfway through the game?"

Bill Gates: "Good idea. Here's a truckload of money."


Not that I don't like Halo 2's ending - in fact, I think it's a great cliffhanger ending! But it seems almost blatant that they're drawing out Halo's storyline in preparation for the Xbox 2 launch.
