So what's the deal here?

You read the real Urn forum and steal people's ideas and solve's and pass them off as your own? I've read thru these posts and I have yet to see one original thought that didn't first appear on the other forum. Why don't come up with something and post it there for benefit of everyone. Quit being parasites.

a)Some of us are solving on both forums, cross-posting their own solves/ideas. Not me, in fact I haven't been 'solving' or stealing anything, I'm more of an observer for now.

b)It's called 'compiling known information'. Known != ones own, at least not always. 'Being parasites' would imply that people are snagging the ideas and passing them off as their own, which in some cases (such as the ones I mentioned above, they could be lying, though I don't believe so) may be true, but in others isn't (people usually actually say up-front, "so-and-so at steinitzpuzzlers forum said such-and-such").

c)Even if everyone here was parasitising the steinitzpuzzlers forums, there's no call to be rude about it. Call them on it, ask politely for them to stop, then if they don't, that's when you get p***ed off and start this sort of thing.

Could you please give specific examples of what you are talking about?

The guide that I was putting together was for the benefit of both groups...however I started it when I thought the game was going to end on November 22nd.... there is no way that I can keep it up over the holidays.

And I think people can post where they choose with whatever group they want to work with, but just so there is no confusion I will gladly copy this post to that forum and ask them to remove my name.

Um, I know most of these people, and they're usually very good at attributing something if it's from another source. You on the other hand, I don't know. So, if you have a problem with something someone's posted, specifically address it like an adult rather than logging in anonymously and blasting away.

fyi: my reply posted there

Just so you know, this is what I posted there. I, for one, have no interest in trying to maintain two forums. As far as I am concerned this should end the whole matter.

I don't mean to imply in any way that anyone else should not post there.
This is just said on my own behalf.

Someone who must frequent this forum has posted on another forum where I am an active member. This person seems to think we are just stealing the ideas posted here. That claim is highly offensive to me and is being asserted in the very offensive terms. (see quote below)

I was in the process of writing a wiki guide for the game-- when it got to a reasonable state I intended to link that here. I now see that it will be better for me personally to no longer participate in this forum. So I request that Charlie remove my name from here.

I know that most of the people here are welcoming and collaborative-- still, I think keeping these things out in the open is best.

FYI : this was posted by someone who didn't register at the site, but posted as a guest under the name "real"

I can only speak for myself, but any of the info I post is either general knowledge sort of information (from the blogs), my own spec or I reference the Steinitz Puzzle Forums. If there are similarities in some of my spec it isn't because of any kind of stealing on my part.

Also, I see this as no different that the many people from the Steinitz Puzzler Forums who are writing blogs on the subject.

Aww, don't let a 13 year old have such an effect. Wink

Can't we all get along?

Hey, folks ... and I mean that both to any Unfiction or Steinitzpuzzler crowd that comes along. I'm one of the "Puppetmasters" for the game (making a rare "out of game" post) and I'm really sorry I didn't see this thread yesterday.

From our perspective, we love the forums here at Unfiction (and are avid readers and followers of your advancement.) The community at Steinitzpuzzlers has pretty high esprit de corp, so that was probably just their way of inviting you to participate in the forums over there as well (it's probably just in Caeser code or hexidecimal or something!) Which many of you do. We're actually flattered at all the cool stuff the ARG community has put together, we just haven't been as "involved" in posting to your community (for obvious reasons.)

Meanwhile, we were pretty convinced that someone would be ready to turn in a completed answer on Monday. Some worried that the solution would be out there before then. As far as we can tell, there's a lot of puzzle solving and connections to be made and paradoxs to unravel before anyone is even going to be close. Your lists here just confirm how much there is that is still unsolved or partially solved.

The more minds the better, right?

Best,

Brian Clark

thanks

Thank you for clarifying this question. I did wonder if the PMs were against having the game discussed on other forums.

I think that the "more the merrier" approach is essential to enjoying a game.

Still, I find the idea that it may be possible to solve the location of the third urn by Monday exciting. I thought we would be dragging out clues through the end of the year. I guess I had better try to review what I can and update the guide.
