[SPEC] Steinitz's death

Quote:
Dagobert Steinitz died thinking he had beaten the world, on Christmas Eve, 2003. The circumstances of his death were just as strange and inexplicable as the man himself. Steinitz placed a disturbing call from his family chateau, where he had lived alone for over 30 years, to an emergency operator at 8:12 p.m. on December 24:

OPERATOR: Emergency Services, what is the nature of your emergency?
STEINITZ: He's here! He's here!
OPERATOR: Who's there, sir?
STEINITZ: He found me! He's here!
OPERATOR: Try to calm down, sir. Who-
STEINITZ: He knows!
OPERATOR: Let me guess, he knows if you've been bad or good-
(Scream, followed by static, then the line goes dead)

Don't know if this was obvious to everyone else, but is it possible that Peter or Mike was the "he" Steinitz is talking about? Or maybe Xavier?

think Xavier, Mike, or Peter could burn him without any other signs of a fire? If I'm not mistaken, that's what they said happened.

EDIT: Yep, I remembered right.

Quote:
The crew arrived six minutes later, forced the chateau's front door open and found Steinitz' body on the floor of his bedroom. His face, neck and torso had fourth degree burns, as did the undersides of his arms, as if he died trying to shield himself from something. According to the police report, the room smelled of ozone and none of the electronic devices were working. Besides Steinitz, nothing else in the room was burned or singed in any way. There was no sign of forced entry, and investigators could see no apparent source of the fire. The cause of Steinitz' death is still unknown.

Emphasis mine.

I was thinking that if he was shielding himself from something maybe it wasn't a fire at all, but rather something red hot being pushed against him. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to do if someone were determined enough to make a death look suspicious and/or supernatural.

Then why the ozone-smell and no electronics working? To me, that spells lightning-strike or divine intervention.

Oh I agree that this looks very strange, but these things could be "faked" by someone who wants a death to look unusual. I just don't want to assume anything here.

Ozone is created by alot of common things like laser printers, pinball machines and even slot cars. So it could be produced by someone intentionally.

I wish we had more information about the electronics. Did they mean electronics that were already in the room? Or electronic devices brought in by the police? Was there some kind of "charge" in the air preventing their operation? Or were the electronics in the room somehow tampered with so they wouldn't work?

It also seems strange to me that he only has burns on his neck, torso and underarms. I wouldn't think that if you were hit by lightning that you would have time to get into a shielding position. Also, typically deep burns don't occur from lightning strikes because the lightning has very brief contact with the skin. So I don't think it was a "natural lightning" sort of thing.

So at the very least, I think this was meant to look like a divine intervention type thing. If this were a true story I'd go with that theory, but since this is fiction it could very well be a super human lightning man sort of thing Smile

Either way, I don't think it's super important to the solve otherwise they would have given us more evidence to chew on.

Although a lightning is possible, I think I have to agree with Varin. Lightning usually only leaves an entrance and exit wound, with the bulk of the damage done on the inside. The electronics part is interesting, it could have been caused by an electromagnetic field or an intense electrical charge.
