But feckless uses the same 'A' type character used in perfection later in the sentence, so is more likely to be correct.

The character, however, is a combination of the F and E chars, and (like I said) shows up in "perfection", right where the word needs a "fe".

Edit: What Atrophied said. (trout?)

1. Lacking purpose or vitality; feeble or ineffective.
2. Careless and irresponsible.

It fits rather well into the sentence.

But reckless is 'careless and irresponsible', too, so really it could be either or.

Worse yet is that the Covie letter used looks like an F with a line coming down the front that would make it look like an R if attached in the middle. I think it's like the "licks to the center on a tootsie-pop thing..."

Thanks for catching that line I seemed to have skipped.

I've always enjoyed calling particularly pushy or officious business people "feckless thugs." They get really confused looks.

That would be sweet. Thanks in advance.

If it makes any difference to anyone, I took a few minutes to translate my own copy of Conversations before coming to the forums (because I'm ashamed of relying on everyone else to solve the puzzles for me -- I'm in it more for the story), and can verify the last translation to be very nearly accurate, with the exception that "those destroyed" should be "this destruction" and "do well to mind" should be "do well to pay mind" (as I believe was noted earlier):

Quote:

To thine own eyes, Prophet of Mercy

Dearest Brother,

I hope this finds you well. My sorrow and anger precede me with regard to the atrocity and heresy at Halo. We shall avenge this destruction with some of our own. Work proceeds apace on our battle plan. The Shangheili (Elites) will do what is asked of them, and the Jiralhanae (Brutes) will show the humans what our strength looks like at close quarters.

But this message concerns neither the planning nor the discovery of the human homeworld. Rather I question Brother Regret's suitability for this great purpose.

I am aware of his tenacity and ambition, but I believe his youth and feckless reaching may prove to be great risks to the perfection of this undertaking. You have noted his rashness in the past, and yet neither of us has acted.

I suggest that we continue as planned, but we would both do well to pay mind to Brother Regret, and provide wisdom and guidance as needed. This matter is too important to be left to inexperienced hands. Piety is no substitute for wisdom.

Perhaps I worry too much. You know that I embrace caution, but we cannot have inexperience or arrogance at this great juncture.

Be pure, be vigilant, and never rest.

By my own hand,

Prophet of Truth

Hmm. Not sure. Yanme could be "impure" in Sanskrit, from what I remember.

You're thinking a bit too hard. It's close to the Japanese name for dragonfly. For previous video game uses of the word, see Megaman X6's Commander Yanmark and Pokemon Gold/Silver's Yanma.

...have I ever mentioned I play entirely too much video games?

You sort of have to sit back and admire how twisted and manipulative Truth is.

They get the data from the Pulse of the artifact, then he convinces Regret to launch his portion of the fleet early, so that he can find the relevant data to head for one of the Halo rings. Regret has no idea he's attacking the human homeworld, that's a fact known only to Truth and Mercy, and Truth goes so far as to use Regret's brash zeal as a tool.
