[Halo 2] Legendary Ending...some spoilers within.

Well me and my roomate just finished halo 2 on the legendary setting. You would not believe how many times i threw my controller. Legendary is quite indeed the hardest gaming experience i've had, especially on co-op where if one of you dies BOTH of you start from the last checkpoint. It took at least 2 hours to get through the first stage. Ok, well we soaked up our glorious triumph by actually letting the credits roll. only to find a very strange thing at the end of the credits

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the lone words
"Coming February 9th"
nothing else was written just that

Spec away at what that means. I honestly have no clue myself

Interesting. Promos for Halo 3 start running? ILB2 begins? Something entierly new? Something none of us can think of?

From FREAKING Bungie themselves:

Code:

Hella peeps asked: What is the February 9th date shown in the Legendary credits?

It is what we in the trade like to call nonsense. The credits on legendary are identical to the credits on easy. Go watch them yourself. This is what happens when internet trolls get picked up by legitimate websites. On February 9th, nothing terribly exciting will happen to the Halo universe.

Now, Bungie has had a good history of fooling people and misleading information and cool promo devices (ILB anyone?) but they have gone ON the record here, so I am pretty darn sure there is nothing happening on Feb. 9th.

Also since no one can magically show anyone a screenshot.. I claim BS.

I have heard from more trustworthy sources that the February 9th clue does indeed occur at the end of the credits.

Check out these sites.
http://wirelessdigest.typepad.com/games_digest/2004/11/halo_2_hints_at.html

Apparently, even slashdot is promoting this rumor on some level, although the only current information is that there is "February 9" at the end of the credits. There is no further information than that, and any speculation is merely idle.
http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/15/1452236&tid=211

Apparently, slashdot got its information from a different site, utopiangamer, a website that I have never heard linked to any actual news, so take this with a grain of salt: they say that the timer on ILB.com has changed to mark February 9, 2552. If you all are good with calendars or know any idiot savants, take a look at ILB to verify this. However, they claim to have pictures of this 2-9 date.
http://www.utopiangamer.com/features/halo3release/index.php?

Just to add fuel to the fire, February 9 holds some special significance to the Halo team, as it was the date that the Halo and the Oni teams conjoined to form what Alex Seropian called, "The Dream Team."
http://rampancy.net/node/143

However, check out this link, which seems to debunk the rumor.
http://halo.bungie.org/oldnews.html?item=11345

EDIT: After searching through utopiangamers.com, I found that they have a section called the Rumor Mill, which seems to function much like theonion.com in that they basically manufacture news stories.
Check out these 'news stories.'
http://www.utopiangamer.com/rumors/rumor.php?rumor=20041119-halflife2
http://www.utopiangamer.com/rumors/rumor.php?rumor=20041105-pitygage

Now, these are 'news stories' that have absolutely no references in them, which makes me highly suspicious of this site's validity.

However, utopiangamers.com has gone on the record as saying that the 2-9 mystery is in fact real. They claim that it is the truth, so I'm going to send them an email so that they can !reveal it.
http://www.utopiangamer.com/news/news.php?news=20041115-201147

EDIT 2: Apparently, a member on the Bungie forums, which is itself always a considerable source of journalistic integrity, is claiming to be an ex-member of Bungie; this board member says that a single-player add-on will be released on February 9 on a demo disc in one of the major X-Box/Microsoft magazines. Now, look ... this guy all but says "Single Player Demo Release" in his little post, so take it with a grain of salt.

http://www.forumplanet.com/haloplanet/topic.asp?fid=5258&tid=1530265&p=1

EDIT 3: The below gentleman linked you to a bungie page thread that contains more spoilers than a week-dead refrigerator after a zombie apocalypse. Here's what Bungie says about all this:

Quote:
Hella peeps asked: What is the February 9th date shown in the Legendary credits?

It is what we in the trade like to call nonsense. The credits on legendary are identical to the credits on easy. Go watch them yourself. This is what happens when internet trolls get picked up by legitimate websites. On February 9th, nothing terribly exciting will happen to the Halo universe.

Make your decisions accordingly.

It. Is. Not. True.

Read in there.

Unless Bungie is lying(which they could be). A screenshot is still needed.

Indeed. No Screenshot, no proof. no Credibility.

While I appreciate and admire your efforts in reaserch which are to bee commended.

The only way to actually prove this is to provide a screenshot to be scrutenized for doctoring.

But... I mean... Bungie flat out said there is no such line of text.
Now we all klnow Bungie can be marketing - taunting - bastards. But them misleading us? Has only ever applied to something hidden and unrevealable at the time.

Now this can be easily viewed by simply beating the last level on legendary and watching the credit roll. (easier said than done, i know)
Say a fan does such... INSTANTLY, bungie has become a group of bad liars, and loose Mucho KUDOS with their fans (ie the 7th column/underground army)

Simple logic and common sence dictates that if bungie says there is nothing after the credits that ANYONE can view... There is nothing after them.

Well, I beat the last level on legendary and there was no such thing. So, unless you have to beat the whole thing on Legendary, then it's not true.

All it takes to prove it is a screenshot. Or a video, if anyone could do that.

hmm

well me and my roomie went through the last level again but it didn't happen again. not sure whats up with that. Unless both of our minds were playing tricks on us. I don't see how that could happen since neither of us saw anything like this on the net before. I have no way of getting a screenshot even if it did happen again. i don't even know anyone with a digital camera. and my web cam is nowhere near a tv.
oh well, reguardless we know what we saw. I didn't know i'd be semi-flamed and basically called a liar for sharing it.

Edit. just thought of something. maybe that "patch" had something to do with the quote
I know what all was included in the patch but maybe that was extra

I just find it strange that no one on the whole wide internet can come up with a screen capture for this. Obviously its a big thing, and lots of places have picked up the news from some other seeminly reputible site. Of course all that requires is ONE decent site to be misled and everyone else will follow suit (2000 election results anyone?).

Now, Frankie said "Nothing TERRIBLY exciting will happen on Feb. 9th". Now, in true bungie style.. the play with words could mean SOMETHING is going to happen, but not terribly exciting. A demo disk could fit the bill, but I would imagine if they were going to do this it'd be before Christmas, so everyone will go out and get Halo 2 for a present. Though, the idea still remains, something COULD happen on Feb. 9th, but I dont think it will be anything "terribly exciting". Sigh.

Edit: *IF* the Feb. 9th thing does exist, its possible the Patch affected it, OR its possible that it only shows up the first time you beat it on Legendary. Thus no one can replicate the results? This is really stretching now.. but I guess its possible, somehow.

The oinly significance Feb 9th holds for me was being int he biggest earthquake I had ever been in, the Sylmar quake of 71, southern california.

Has anyone else seen it? I know this rumor has been flying around?

Not that we're trying to impugn your honesty...I just like lots of confirmation.

I have a capture device hooked up to my xbox, but i CANNOT beat the last level on legendary..i get to the very end, and not to say a spoiler here, but those who have got to the end know what im talking about..and i can't beat it..it is impossible. i stay alive and play for like 30 minutes, and it never ends...*sigh*

if i beat it, i have everything recording, and you'll see proof-or-anti-proof heh

I got this email in return from utopiangamers.com.

Quote:
Sure Josh, I promise you will be one of the first to receive an email
with a link to the photographs. Sadly, our editor who found the
"February 9th" and is the only one who can take the picture is on
vacation, so we won't be able to obtain the photo until a week from
today (tuesday). I'm sorry about the inconvenience and if this caused
you any amount of trouble.

As always, thanks for the feedback! We encourage you to write back with
any more comments (whether issues, opinions, or questions) on this
article or any other form of content on the site. Questions and
feedback
like yours is what helps us improve.

This sounds like they're just trying to cover their butts. They were wrong about the ILB countdown changing, and my suspicion is that they are wrong about this.
