Is the letter from Mrs. Kinross new?

It looks like a hint doesn't it? Somehow it implies that we order the years starting from the present year and going back, and then take the first letter of something (tried with title and journal names)...

Yep, letter's new, and looking fairly hinty. Kinross...Texel? Heh, she got married? Or is her mom writing in, depressed because her daughter is living in a virtual reality shell of some kind? Er, a more virtual reality shell? Virtualer.

Please note how valiantly I refrained from speculating on Texel's love life there.

Hmm, maybe the first letter of each of those quotes on the top of the page?

Are they the same ones as before or are they new?

edit: Silly me, they don't change. I thought they were random.

In order from present year ("always comes first").

I've tried a few things ("read it from the first letter") with the first letters of Author's last names, their initials, the first letters of the name of the abstract, and the first letters of the names of the publications. All to no avail, also tried ROTing the results with no luck. I also tried switching letter 4 and 5, because they both have a date of Nov/96.....still nothing.

Does the bit in the letter about finding the location of the conference refer to anything in context, or could that be a hint? Maybe we're looking for the name of a place? Please, no more GPS coordinates...

The only thing that I noticed was that the quote refers to volcanoes and on the Wongmo letter page he says "Aloha".....so I was thinking Hawaii.
I did try a few things, but since this is my first time round, maybe Wongmo is a dude who always says "Aloha".....lol.

Anyway, there isn't anything to back up my thoughts.....and I still can't get much from the abstracts.

Hee, actually, he really sort of is. Not that it might not still be a clue, but yeah. Also, he had a retreat in Hawaii last year.

This sounds like it could maybe be the source of the quote?

(btw, why does Leo feel that Phil should have post-traumatic stress disorder again? What was the trauma? If I remember right, he was pretty nicely removed from the major traumatic stuff that centered around Beth and Jesse and all them. He mostly just got e-mails, didn't he? Not that Kane would know that anyway. Huh.)

Could that be an indication that both 4 and 5 are the same letter, so there's something that both of them have in common? That's obviously not first letters, but I don't know where else to look.

Perhaps we actually have to FIND the articles this thing is referencing and dig out THEIR first letters?

I've actually tried that, with my handy access to all sorts of online databases, but the problem is that some just aren't available (or sometimes I just don't have access). I haven't made it all the way down the list, but I've gotten more dead ends than successes so far. I found two full texts online - the 1991 article starts with an "a," and 1983 = "s." With all the dead ends, I think maybe this isn't what we're supposed to be doing. But don't quote me on that. I'm confused.

I see... Well, you probably have far more patience and resources than me, so I'll take your word for it.

Oh, no, I don't mean to cut off an avenue of exploration or anything. Just reporting what I've found, or haven't, rather.

Have we actually established for sure what the numbers in parentheses are? They're still bugging me.
