Bump to get more answers - think this could be interesting from a marketing point of view, to get some figures behind the effect the game had on sales (albeit a potentially small on in the grand scheme of things!).
Are there any people out there who had absolouely *no* interest in Halo pre-bees, but have since bought the game (1 or 2) as a result of getting hooked into the story?

[EDIT] Did anyone actually teach me spelling and grammar?!

I'm one. I got Halo for the PC after (and because) ILB started. After the end of ILB, I bought an XBox, Halo 2, and Xbox Live --mostly 'cause I knew there was already a host of people with whom I wanted to play.

While I do play quite a lot in the way of video games, it is doubtfull that I would have gone out to get Halo 2 without my interest in ILB. Much less pre-ordered the collector's edition and play it nearly as much as I do.
I was much more excited about the game after I discovered ILB then I ever would have been without it.

I'm the only maybe (as of now). Before ILB, I would've said no, but I don't know if it's really worth it to buy an xbox and halo2 just for a story that, from what I've heard, isn't as good as ILB's story... I still say maybe because I can't really think of anything else I want for christmas...

Was a 'maybe', am now a 'definitely, if I can get the cash together'. Thing is, you need Live to get the full experience, and an XBOX to get the experience at all, and I have nether an XBOX, nor an internet connection in the room the XBOX would be in if I did have it.

I'm a yes, but my purchase can't really be attributed to ILB, considering that I preordered the LCE in May. I actually had it preordered a month or two before that, but had to re-preorder when they announced the LCE.

I was already excited about Halo2 before ILB, but ILB incresed my excitement by alot.
The only thing I wish is that I could get Xbox Live to play with all you great people. Hopefully you'll all still be around whenever I'm able to get it.

Does anyone think that ILB actually made some people to not buy halo2? What I mean, is that there are a lot of PS2/GC/PC gamers that were reading about ILB and they were reading on forums people whining that halo2 didn't actually came out at aug 24th and not even a demo got released, and how bungie/microsoft "sucks" and this might have given these people a bad impression on halo2/bungie/microsoft that made them not buy halo2/xbox.
I believe the ILB campaign was a success. But I'm just bringing one more point to the table.

I don't know, from a pure numbers standpoint, I still don't see how an ARG could be worth its cost.
1.5 million people preordered Halo 2, yes? What is the 30 or 40 that ILB may have brought in (and I'm counting only players who were convinced to buy Halo 2 BY ILB, of course) beside that?

But how huge must that Halo Bible be now? How much more backstory is there now available to the people who totally adore and revere the arc of Master Chief vs. the Covenant?
For the cost of a 60 second television commercial during prime-time, I could make you a very pretty ARG.

From the conversations I've had with such heathens that prefer PS2, I think they already had a low enough opinion of xbox/halo/bungie/microsoft that they weren't going to buy it anyway. 'Tis just my humble observation.

I only own a PS2, not an Xbox. This ARG has made me want to buy an Xbox and Halo and Halo 2.

I bought Halo 2 and Xbox Live because of ILB. Wasn't exactly thrilled with it, but to keep in touch with the community, it was worth it.
