Something to try

Do you remember a couple of days back when you guys were discussing octal vs decimal. Maybe we need to subtract eight again. Just a thought.
BTW, Caterpillar, Thanks. Glad to be here.

Update at gi0.htm:

Using:

You get:

And then:

So we know we're trying to cross a river, we know the door is closed, we know she's upset we haven't broken her code, we know his number is 13, we know we have to earn our passage across, and we know I suck at finding a connection bwteen these things......lol

We have a Black Scorpion to Beware Of, Bunnytrails & Rabbitroads, Castor & Pollux, Poe & Ope, Dr Strangelove & The Raven, Lovecraft & Demons, Qbert, The Moon, Rebirth & Japanese Elements, Cult Towns & Ferrymen, French & Japanese Languages, Jan Termin & Ham Radio......oh yeah and "Why was six afraid of seven?"

I'm waiting for an epiphany...... Shocked

The best I could do so far with the cryptogram (providing of course that it can be solved as such) is with the first and last few words:

So I am ------------- I do

It seems there are a few different pics being used as BGs at pollux....

http://daemon.chaoseed.com/160b.jpg
http://daemon.chaoseed.com/160c.jpg
http://daemon.chaoseed.com/160d.jpg

With "d" being new......not sure of the significance of the changes, but incidence seems random.

There's also this being used at the "door_to" page you get when entering "fare".

Hmmm

(can't log in)

There are still these numbers from the "jan termin" page:
211 244 242 239 238 231 160 225 243

Which when using 160 as a space:
211 244 242 239 238 231 _ 225 243

Converted to cryptogram:

Yes, that's a lot.

For instance, the Inspector Gadget .bmp at the bottom (just before the e):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Yep, it's got info stashed in it. Makes a nice, pretty red-and-black line, too.

Cleaning that up (read: guessing):

HA HA HA
not all help left have been solved the number on the contraction page has a clear 666 which is now outdated the point is I never found the phrase fond will no fork to get to the end again Think about that what do jan and termin have in common HA HA HA

Based on that:
1. Jan Termin is an end page. Whenever you see it (if you ever see it again), feel free to annoy the PM with the box at the bottom, or figure out what Jan and Termin have in common and put it there. More will appear later, I'm sure.

2. 666 isn't a number in our code, in case anyone was wondering.

3. Contraction page?!

4. Finding out what Jan and Termin have in common (you've already said it was the month of January, I believe?) would be very helpful.

Anything else?

Actually...

...it's not a ROT code, it's an ASCII code. Subtracting 8 from each ASCII character reveals:

Hope this helps. I'm not "in" this game as such but I just saw that and thought I'd help out.

Hey, help's appreciated. We don't exactly have that many playing, and all. Not like when I was busy with the bees....

So...there's a puzzle on the "under construction" page that is now outdated. It's likely the ASCII numbers in the middle of the word, "maintenance".

Answer using Ciaran's method:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
why w?s six ?fr?id of seven G - ROT 1
why was six afraid of seven G - ROT 0
why was six afraid of seven G - ROT 25

The "h" in the first one didn't work the same as the other letters, we know it's an "a", but in order for the method to work and gain that "a" - the "h" should have been a "z" once the 8 was subtracted.

But z=122 and 122+8= nothing useful in Ascii ....

And:

pqaqavwbmqopbmmv

drscscxydcshdoox
this is not sixteen ROT-16

ohgguvfvfguvegrra

18+8=26. So, all he's saying is that he's using eight, and he'd like to know where we came up with eighteen.

This is important to note, of course, because not everything is simple rotation cypher (some of it is rotation ASCII, and the hurt is noted). Of course, going back eight letters is the same as going forward eighteen, so whenever we see ROT-18, we have to know that he's actuallly going backwards. The same also applies for sixteen (it's ten) and seventeen (it's nine).

Now, if this would help us with the grand cypher, that would be cool. ^_^;;;

please dont tell her i gave you this hint

french dt about dt com sl library sl weekly sl aa zero six two eight nine nine d dt htm

(french.about.com/library/weekly/aa062899d.htm)

Not sure where that applies, maybe the French on pollux?

You know, it does say on in88:
who told these guys how to run a cult? they dont even have a website i dont think!

idunn.info is an "under construction" page......but I don't see any clues.

From: http://www.io.com/~mike_f/RPG/Kurnliac/Kurnliac.html
I think the site is about an RPG....not sure if that fits in here or not, but I have also seen refs to RPGs and the White Hart (top pic at in88), and then you've got the title Beyonder and elixir of immortality and a lot of fanfic refs????

Idunn
Idunn is the goodess of eternal youth, she tends the groves where the Golden Apples of the Sun grow and feeds them to the gods when they grow old, restoring them to youth and vigor. She is married to Bragi, the god of poetry.

Dogma
Idunn teaches that life is to cherished and youth is fleeting. They should be enjoyed to the fullest without shirking one's duties. But one must also remember the cycle of nature, everything dies in its time but death before the proper time is a great wrong.

Clergy and Temples
Clergy of Idunn are mostly female and all look to be young and pleasent looking, no matter how old they actually are (clerics of Idunn never appear to age, but normal aging penalties apply).

All are welcome in her temples, but those of nature are the most welcome, especially tillers of the soil and tenders of orchards.

Unlike most Asgardian temples, temples of Idunn are normally open and airy, often with apple trees growing in them and always with an orchard near them.

Speaking of pollux.htm....

http://daemon.chaoseed.com/pollux.htm has a new error type: 808 Patience Not Found. There's also a list of other error types:

Quote:
Additionally, a 104, a 169, a 200, a 203, a 206, a 300, a 301, a 303, a 306, a 403, a 406, a 409, a 410, a 416, a 500 and a 512 error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

...nothing obvious in the source code, but this *really* looks like a puzzle.

Again with the RPG refs....

Check this out:

*happy campers*
Others who do not pose a threat to the Orz.

*spicy games*
Dimplomacy, but the Orz way.

*frumple* (the alt tag of the frog looking thing)
It seems to be a negative simple term like "bad" or "awful", or something like that. Also means angry.

Here is the exact frog looking creature:
http://www.dxun.org/rainbow/orz.htm

The Orz are a race in the classic video game Star Control.
Star Control is a genre of space exploration games which take place in earth's near future.
