Band names we hope aren't literal

It all started with this note, after the recent death of Little Eva. I had remarked that Grand Funk Railroad did LocoMotion better than she did. The reply:

Quote:
To: Dan
Subject: Re: The Loco-motion

Grand Funk Railroad: To paraphrase that old quip about the Holy Roman Empire, they weren't grand, they weren't funky, and
they weren't a railroad.

And I replied:

Quote:
Dan

As opposed to Led Zepplin, or the Squirrel Nut Zippers?

And thus, the topic was born: "Band names we hope aren't literal"

    Rolling Stones
    The Flaming Lips
    Widespread Panic
    Dixie Chicks
    Missing Persons
    The Pretenders
    Earth, Wind and Fire
, especially in a Rhode Island nightclub
    10,000 Maniacs
    Massive Attack
    Frank Zappa and the Mothers
    Neil Young and Crazy Horse
    The Mamas and the Papas
    Pearl Jam
    Barenaked Ladies
    The Grateful Dead
    Toad the Wet Sprocket
    They Might be Giants
    The Dead Kennedys
    Celine Dion - Live!

-thanks to MM and DW who contributed to this list as well-
