Hey folks... I see everyone is having a blast on live! I just beat the game on Heroic and will now give live a try... but I don't have a communicator (will that be a big issue?) Where do you guys suggest I go first? I haven't played MP at all in Halo 2 and only once in Halo:CE... and it was one on one. While I'm fairly skilled in campaign, I hear MP is a different ballgame... any tips?

Well, communicator affects team strategy and you won't be as effective as you can be. But most importantly, you'll miss a good portion of the fun! Listening all the funny things beekeepers say before/during/after the game is certainly part of the experience! Some people will say that's what make the difference between playing with strangers and playing with friends.

About suggestion, all I have to say is to play with us! You'll learn what works and what doesn't. Some tips from me:

- For close combat, dual wield is the answer, unless you have a shotgun or the sword! For dual wield combos, best combos are SMG+Pistol, SMG+Plasma Rifle and SMG/Pistol + Charged Plasma Pistol. I don't fare very well with Dual Pistols, just because I lose accuracy when I'm continuously shooting with both triggers, but a lot of people love that combo!

- If you only have a SMG and a dual wielding oponent attacks you, you're gonna need to make good use of grenades! They are your only hope. Just readjust how you throw grenades, cause they're different from Halo CE.

- Battle Rifles are only useful at medium/long range. You're gonna be killed fast at close range against dual wielding oponents! I only use battle rifle at Coagulation and Waterworks. Works pretty good on these levels!

Fun stuff. Smile Happy turkey day, to those of you that are all about ingesting some gobble gobble. Which I was. Oof. Oh my.

You have no idea. I've had to endure two meals today alone -- I didn't think I was going to make it home from my SO's house awake.

I've got another one (with the largest quantity of food thus far) tomorrow!

!eat >> ingest turkey

I unplugged my communicator and the sound just came out of my surround sound speakers. If you don't have a communicator just don't do tasks in team games that may require you to use one..i.e. taking the flag.

I think it is a great idea. Just like in real life, if you are blabbing on your radio, anyone in a certain proximity will hear you

If you read the books the master chief actually has to click on an open channel for people to hear him outside of his MOJLNIR, that sucker is air/sound tight.

About teamspeaking, yeah it sucks! It's really hard to coordinate the offense very well! I think they heard me and INCyr coordinating our base invasion then!
The conventional wisdom says that you coordinate storming the base on the drive over in the warthog, so you don't have to talk to each other when you get there. I lean on the horn when circling to pick someone up. Hopefully, that means you can hear me coming and time your exit. Of course, if they've got a lick of sense, the enemy knows to start looking for you with the flag.

What do we really have to talk about anyway? It's not like I can parallel park and hold the door for you.

"I'm trying to get out with the flag!"
"I know, but they're shooting at me!"
"But, I have to get in!"
"But, I can't stop!"

I'll tell you what: next time I'll at least circle counter clockwise, so the passenger side is always toward the base.

another good point... totally forgot about that... technically, the white button should already be unheard, because you wouldn't be able to yell at any time, even when not speaking to the team, and have everyone around hear you... I think the idea actually, would be that when you speak, your armor reacts automatically and assumes you're speaking to someone next to you, so it would project your voice - unless you push team-speak, in which case it should only broadcast radio, not proximity...

bah Bungie! get your technology right! Razz

Well, usually it's 2-3 guarding next to the flag! So it's not easy to get into the base and kill all of them by yourself! It's specially hard when it's CTF classic and all you have to do to return the flag is touch it! I was trying to coordinate a simultaneous base invasion with INCyr from different entrances to kill them all. I would come from the basement and he would come from the top. Hard to do that if I cant' really see him and can't speak to him!

I guess if we really wanted to get technical we could designate a team who was going for the flag grab as Alpha team, give them their own private comm channel, and then give Bravo team, who clears out the base/provides cover for the flag snatcher another private comm channel. Then the two leaders of each team could have their own comm channels so they can coordinate with each other. Then you got HQ comms. Someone needs to stay back to make sure no one is attacking the HQ, or waiting there for the flag guy to come back. That still leaves all buttons available because this could be achieved with the otherwise useless D-pad. Or of course you could get a neural implant, pop an AI in there and let her/him arrange all communiqué between teams.

I guess bungie never played Halo in an actual suit of MOJLNIR, if they had they would know all this.

Whispering into your headset is like trying to read this really small type when you need glasses.

You guys crack me up. If proximity didn't work, you would never get to hear me scream all girly-like right before you run me through with a sword, and then hear my spartan avatar grunt and yell all burly-like a second later!

"Curious symmetry."

Do you hit the white button before every time you scream? Razz your screams would still be heard miles away krystyn... proximity is on by default - the suit assuming you want to talk normally and projecting your voice. But the white button would only send voice through comm, not to the outside world.

You know I was just thinking... why didn't bungie give the option for the flag to be carried back to the home base to return it? I mean, that's the most realistic right? You've got the sticky flag (the team has to guard it wherever it's dropped), the touchy flag (the team just has to touch it to return it to their base), and the carry flag (someone has to carry it back to the base... it's in between the first two, and it's realistic, so why wouldn't they make that an option?

Or did they already and I'm just missing it...? Confused

I mean, then you could get some wild back and forth flag fights... and as 2 flag CTF, that's some crazy strategy that would be needed! Imagine, your flag is stolen, so one group goes out to retrieve it while the other goes out to grab the enemy flag... in the end 2 guys end up running side by side with both flags up to their home plate for the score Very Happy

No, I'm not hitting the white button right before I die, unless it's to say, "dammit, Nova has the rocket launch-AAAAAAAAA". I was just being silly, really. Wink
