Was there an ARG for the first Halo game?

I am asking this question because my brother had told me that there was an ARG for the first Halo game. I proceded to tell him that I didnt think there was one. So I decided I would ask the question here and see what responce I get.

Thanks for any help

Dave

As far as I know, there was something similar to an ARG called the "Cortana Letters", used to introduce Cortana to the series. That, and to set up the 'end of humanity' situation - I belive the first one said "Your poet (forgot the name) had it wrong. This is how the world ends.", referencing these lines from a poem - "this is how the world ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper". I used to have a link lying around that had a confusing archive of the letters, but I can't seem to find it.

It wasn't really an ARG though. Not much interaction, or even puzzle solving. It was basically just something weird to clue Marathon fans in. If its possible, Marathon's fan base was MUCH more into the storyline than Halo fans generally are.
