I do see your point, but I am not sure just having Dana be the sole source of 'touches on the server' would have as much impact.

Maybe it's not random peeps, but some conspiracy theory group, or *cough* a bunch of hacker kiddies who -think- they're playing some game, but get um, sucked into the whole situation, and ...

Hm.

I think the small group of 'Keepers should be how it's done, with refs to the other 'Keepers online. Such as, one of them could record one of the soundfiles, then talking to another over the phone, say he or she's uploading the audio for the others. Just create the feeling that they're there, you just never see them. And Dana could make comments about the "hundreds and hundreds of people" helping her out.

With all the thinking we're putting into this, some of us SHOULD write a screenplay!

EDIT: And, one of the tracks off of the sound track should be really long, and called the "Payphone Suite".

This is pretty much what I was thinking of. Never showing directly a group of players, but there being references to them so Durga could say later that the way she healed was from the help of strangers.

I think that there's other ways that the nuttiness of the game could be shown visually and structurally so that it retains the same feel of the game while presenting the main story for everyone. Keeping the spirit alive or whatever. In true Bungie form, maybe have Durga dream or have nightmares of her past life as Yasmine, but be unaware of where these terrifying images are coming from. Maybe her split-personalities (explained to be generated by the artifact (that maybe also threw her around in time, but that starts to make my head hurt)) could have similar effects that happened in the 2004 I Love Bees game, except in the future. Like all the chatters ringing randomly or the coffee machines spitting out burritos or garage doors slamming or something.

If everyone really wanted time travel to be part of the story, then maybe it could take on the style of Memento and be out of sequence (the backwards-travelling visual style of Memento would be better suited for any I Love Bees movie than it was for it anyway, but that's besides the point).

Time travel is a pretty nutty concept and still on the more magic side of science fiction, and isn't something that has been touched on by Bungie in Halo (except in the Halo novels) (yes, I know about Marathon Infinity).

As cute as Dana is, I don't think that her character would make much sense if the story were to revolve primarily around the 2552 people. If she was included, then you'd have to explain the I Love Bees website itself, and that would be really hard to tell. While some sci-fi tends to rely more on the "magic" of science to tell a story, the cool thing about Bungie and their stories is (in my humble opinion too!!) that they generally don't stray too much from science, and a lot of computer hacker types in movies tend to fall on the more magic side of science rather than the stuff grounded in fact.

Anyway, I think what it comes down to is what people feel are the most important aspects of the experience and presenting it in a movie format, whether it's a big-time Hollywood movie or something that is smaller but pleases more of us. Like I said, I think a bells-and-whistles Hollywood movie would be cool beans, but it would lose a lot of the game we played.

Not necessarily! It could be like a virus infection on Dana's computer, not necessarily on the web site, like the original story. They could show Melissa spying on Dana, like the Killer photos, show Dana trying to find out what happened and then helping Melissa to recover her memories and understand what brought her there! I don't see a better way to explain to the spectator about the Covenant, (maybe) halo and the artifact than conversations between Melissa and Dana. Dana could be what brings the spectator closer to the story.

Yes, you can have a group of beekeepers, but there would be just too many characters on the movie and I'd rather have a more powerful one than a group of characters.

But yeah, I guess everyone has a different way to transfer this to a movie. I, for example, would love to have the stupid cop! I just liked his character, even though I agree his role would probably be cut ...

To me at least, any story that involves the current Melissa/Sleeping Princess and Dana would lose the urgency of the real danger of the events in 2552. People would be watching and saying, "Well... there's this A.I. stuck in 2004 and she needs to get back. Dana would really like her Aunt's computer to be clean of an A.I. from the future."
Meanwhile...
THE COVENANT ARE ABOUT TO KILL US ALL ARHGHD BOOM.
I think The Covenant are about to kill us all arhghd boom would translate better into a more clear image of the feel of I Love Bees as a movie.

Yeah, I liked him too.

Well, Dana's website would still have to be called ilovebees, or it would literally defeat the purpose.

In other words, without Dana there'd be no ilovebees website, and without ilovebees, where would Melissa have landed? Why would the movie be called ilovebees, and what would be the significance of Yasmine's last memory? We also have all the hive analogies-- the military of Halo, Team Jersey, us Beekeepers-- all act like bees, each with his own role in the hive-and contributing to the whole.

It depends on how they do it. Dana would start the movie clueless about the whole Covenant war, just like a first time viewer. But everything changes as she interacts with Melissa and starts to learn about the war. As I said before, I'd like the spectator to learn about the story together with Dana, and she'll realize the urgency of the situation as the movie progresses and will try to help Melissa to get back on her feet.

Now, the trick is to do all this without stealing focus (and minutes) from the 2552 story, which I agree, should be the main focus of the movie. It would be specially tricky if they decide to go deep on the Melissa/Sleeping Princess story arc.
