Hi all,

New to this board but noticed one or two things on the S&S site.

In 'The Locations' page: the lat/long give Leuven and Devils Lake but the other three locations/acquisitions have not yet been identified.

My best guess is Franz Josef Island (top middle), Kiribati (bottom right) and Pitcairn Island (bottom left)

Also, the three acquisitions listed on the home page (with the exception of the lottery winning Den Horen) don't really provide any further information.
Only one possibly ties in with the whole campaign, but how it relates to anything else is beyond me. That is L. Gilbert from French Guyana. FG is the location of Devils Island, on which the film Papillon was based, on which a certain commercial was based (sailor with a bottle wrapped in his blanket) for those who know the ad campaigns)

As to what the rest of it all ties into is anybodys guess...it could all be random... but having experienced certain other Web games I doubt it.

Maybe the game IS afoot my dear Watson.

Pick through that and make of it what you will.

The Cryptic Celt.

hi,

just a couple of things that i have noticed:

D. Horen, USA, FMCG with Currency options is most proably

dennis horen the lottery winner in the hornchurchstar star. den horden is flemish (i think) for "the horn" which is part of stellas logo.

in the hornchurch star horoscopes under Sagittarius is the following

"You yearn for knowledge and seek an explanation as to what you're meant to do. The answers lie in the questions; who is Dennis Horen, and what did he sell?"

sagittarius comes into effect ( or how ever you say it) between Nov 23 - Dec 21

also in the horoscopes under Pisces is

Fate sees you reading the works of Johann Von Goethe.

eg faust......super Wink

As 1366 appear on just about every web site in the HMFJ world i have looked at faust line 1366 but all the line says is:

"i have never discountenanced it"

i also though that if you drop int a colon between 13 and 66 so you get 13:66 it would be a bible reference but there are quite a few books in the bible with 13 or more chapters in them and there does not seem to be any reference to which book to look at, so i have drawn a blank there.

i wonder if we have stumbled into this sooner then we were suppossed to as nothing seems to go any where.

any ideas???

cheers

december 21st is going to be key i think as 21's been mentioned a lot and also somewhere in the depths of the thread i remember someone talking about festivals that fall on the 21st in the northern hemisphere (or something, can't seem 2 find it now.) i wouldn't be surprised if s&s went massive on the 21st in time for some scary stuff around christmas. just a thought

Just thought I'd point out that a December 21st thing would tie in with what Marlowe Digital told Francesca in her email.

Quote:
Will you be having any events in future?

We are not entirely sure what you mean by this. The only major event we have had this year was our launch party, which did not take place at Lounge Lover on 31st October.

Our collective will probably take part in some kind of winter festival celebration in late December, client contract permitting, but the details are far from concrete.

Looks like we may have to wait a while then...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Shuck site mentions that the company was formally known as Ophis Incorporated. I did a google on Ophis and found some interesting info. Here is the link:
http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Ophiussa

This is what stood out most for me:
Quote:
There is a legend that on the Summer Solstice a maiden-serpent, a Ctonic Goddess, revels the occult treasures to the forest explorers. The city of Oporto was were this maiden would live. Festivities related to this goddess occurred during the Solstice, while for the rest of the year this maiden transformes into a serpent living under and between the rocks, where shepherds would take some milk from their sheep to give to her.

The summer solstice is an astronomical term regarding the position of the Sun in relation to the celestial equator. The summer solstice is the date with the longest day and hence with the shortest night. This date usually falls on June 21/June 22 (in the Northern hemisphere) or December 21/December 22 (in the Southern hemisphere).

Could we be looking for a December 21/22 date for something to happen or be rewarded.

well the end of saggitarius is the 21st and when we move to the 22nd (capricorn - the goat no less) we must refer to our horoscope:

Capricorn:
Dec 22 - Jan 19
The worth of a thing is what it will bring. It's nearly time to discover exactly what your true value is.

if we look at the gemini horoscope which goes up to the 21st of june we see that:

"Fate sees you with a man in black".

Looks like we've still got a little while to wait...

So from what I've seen, other than Jon disappearing and a poor actress with a fake accent setting up a glitched out webpage to help find him, there aren't really any developments coming up...

...is that a correct assumption? Confused

I do think there is more going on than we can see - I get the feeling that this is still targeted to people in the UK - possibly there is more stuff like the stuff people have commented on early ... I'm going to recruit my cool friends (I know not that many) to find out what is happening in Hoxton and other similar areas.

How disappointing - this is the first ARG I've participated in since the Beast, and it certainly seems to be taking its time in getting started. Maybe the client wasn't willing to fund a really active game?

FWIW, I work reasonably close to Hoxton and spend a reasonable amount of time drinking there. I'll see if there're any obvious Stella-sponsored events coming up.

throwing in my 2cents, looking closer at the Lottey Winner page of Hornchurch Star

- Randy Hankin, the supposed vetren seller, is the name of a man who wrote a foreword to a book called 'Attracting Capital From Angel'. this is could be coincidence but i think not.

- Dennis' new girl bears more than a passing resemblence to Liz Hurley, who played the horned one in the recent (and terrible) Bedazzled

- Dennis can easily be seen to be drinking Stella

- if u look in the second paragraph, the numbers 24, 24 and 26 all occour in their cronological order. i dont know if this means anything but it struck me.

- and note the colour of his shirt and the description of the guy who was at the crossroads

and as a side point Robert Johnson also sang a song called Me And The Devil Blues which features the lines;

'And I'm goin' to beat my woman
until I get satisfied

and given that stella is often refered to as Wife Beater....

There is no book in the Bible that meets those requirements. Although there are a few with those numbers reversed:

Psalms 66:13 "I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,"
Isaiah 66:13 "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem."

Seems to be nothing in particular here.

Anyone notice that if you go to any of the webpages at http://www.hewalksamongus.com/index.php and type in the characters iu or ui on the keyboard a popup window will appear that says:

"Nice try. But you need to be a lot less literal."

Anyone have any ideas what that's about?

Edit: aleph.gif is used in the news on the main page - it is their "aleph" anniversary

Aleph, apparently, is a number used in denoting infinite sets. (From here) So I guess they're saying that they're celebrating their, uh, infinite anniversary.. ie they've been about forever. Which kinda makes sense, I guess, considering the content. Wink

Just passing through and noticed this...

Aleph also has other connotations in Jewish folklore -- it is considered to be the most primal letter, it represents beginnings, but it is itself silent. (It's a glottal stop -- open your mouth, start to make a sound, then stop -- that's aleph.) It is the first letter in the first of G-d's names (Elohim) and the first letter in echad (one), and also represents the number 1 in the Hebrew alphabet (Hebrew doesn't have separate characters for numbers). It's the first letter in the name of the first man, Adam (adam also means "man" or "human"), it's the letter of fire, aish, the first letter of the first commandment, etc., so it more or less represents beginnings.

denoting infinite sets

If they're going from the mathematical angle, that's true, but if they're going from the occult/kabbalistic/folkloric angle, I'm not sure that it works -- I think the letter ayin (pharyngeal fricative, no equivalent in English) might be more closely associated with infinity; ayin represents nothingness, but it's also tied in with Ein Sof, a name for G-d that means "without end."

Also, and this may be stretching, but I noticed that one of your "signs" is the raven...

Raven is 'oreb in Hebrew, and that ' represents an ayin, so if you're thinking about Hebrew letters, you might want to take that into account as well. The raven, in the Bible, is, incidentally the "false" messenger -- although ravens were used for divination in the ancient Middle East, and have special prominence in the Jewish dietary laws, when Noah sent out the raven it didn't bring him back any useful information.

So, all this may be so much useless information, but I just thought I'd throw it out there for you in case it might help.

Bye!

First post from me. First ARG for me.

Been looking at this for a couple of weeks, and was watching the news on saturday when I saw a feature on the Ukranian election.

Does this look familiar to anyone: http://flags.efb.ch/flags/ua-arms.html

Phaedra - Thanks for your help! I think you're right, I'm impressed with how well developed this is (the little bits of knowledge that all fit together). Nothing seems to have been missed on their side, but that just leaves so much for us to search through!

jab513- I think £10,000 is a fair fund! I think this is more of a puzzle than a "total immersion game".

Slithy- You might be onto something there. It's worth noting that that little trick doesn't work in FireFox, so future sites might need to be loaded in Internet Explorer to work too. Thing is, what do ui / iu mean? what other key combinations could set it off? Can anyone 'read' javascript enough to see if there are other hidden tricks like this on any of the Marlowe / S&S sites?

GARGH, just deleted my post.

there's javascript on the page which causes a popup to launch if you type "iu" or ui" but there's no other code for other key combinations. this makes me think that it could be a hint meaning "you need to use 'ui' or 'iu' for something else" rather than "you need to type in different letters."

no idea how we were supposed to know to use letters ui though? although someone did find and notice it i guess, so maybe it's not that crazy.

i= 9th letter of alphabet
u = 21st letter of alphabet

um, riiight.
