[Halo 2] Exploits ex·ploit (ĭk-sploit, ĕk-sploit)
n.
An act or deed, especially a brilliant or heroic one. See Synonyms at feat1.
tr.v. ex·ploit·ed, ex·ploit·ing, ex·ploits
1. To employ to the greatest possible advantage: exploit one's talents.
2. To make use of selfishly or unethically: a country that exploited peasant labor. See Synonyms at manipulate.
3. To advertise; promote.
A very interesting word in the English Language. As you can see it is both good and bad, however it is often times associated with the 2nd defenition.
In Halo2 this word can be used in all three contexts. There are a lot of people who are/will be using these exploits as they become more well known. Is it right? Will the masses of people using these exploits balance the game out?
I made this thread in response to a post by Incitatus from this thread. I for one do not want to participate in using these exploits, as nifty and ingenious as they are, in an actual match. I like to play the game as it was meant to be played, with the fair chance to kill people and have a good laugh. When I keep getting sniped from a position I can not shoot back at, or lunged at with a sword from halfway across coagulation it becomes very frustrating and makes me not want to play the game at all.
I'm not flaming Incitatus by referring to his post, I'm not judging anyone who uses these exploits, I'm simply voicing a concern about a topic that my ethics disagree with. Although I have followed the ILB story from the beginning(when the timer was still counting down in July, even though my register date is late October or something) I will not be joining the Beekeeper clan. I do not consider myself a leader and will not be forming my own clan..I'm more of a vagabond type willing to provide support and journey to the end of the earth with my friends. I will remain in the SPDR Ninjas for however long the name stays, and I have many of you on my friends list. I play daily and look forward to those future invites from those on my friends list.

I have very sour experiences with exploits on the mmorpg world. It's amazing how every single bit of the game gets explored and if there's a flaw, people will find out!
It's gray area really, since one can argue that everybody has access to said exploits, making it fair game. But as, Eclipse has said, it's not the way the game was intended to be played.
I think the real bad exploits are the ones that force you to use otherwise you can't compete. Those unbalance the game and hurt the experience!
I have faith on Bungie. They should patch exploits that are abused and hurt the game.
And I know I'm going OT here, but even though it's not an exploit, mouse/kb should not be allowed on consoles ...

I have no problem finding and cateloging such exploits. It's my belief that if they become abusive, Bungie will figure out a way to patch them.
That being said, I echo Eclipse's sentiments about playing with/without these exploits. I'd rather it be a fair game the way it was meant to be played, than have to worry about people using these things in a real match. Sure, I had hella fun wandering around the top of headlong, and I'd love to see some of the other levels. But in an actual game.. I'd rather we win by being better, than using cheesy tactics.

while not as eloquent as others, I'd like to add my support for keeping exploits out of competitive multiplayer games. A bit too much like cheating for my tastes. Finding them and playing around is fine and dandy, but just think how much it'd piss you off if an opposing team was using these exploits against us.

I too came from the MMORPG game world Waters. The problem with exploits in those games is the people use them to become the highest level with all the best stats in a short period of time, then they quit. It's great that they don't play very long, but in the process of their "quest for superiority" they make an environment where the decent people in the game don't want to compete and end up leaving. Ultimately you end up with a bunch of idiots running around after that with just a few decent people still in game.

Well, I'm usually a "crafter" on mmorpg's. (that's the term for people that produce items on mmorpg's) I'm particularly interested on the economy on these games. My bad experiences are related to duping money on various games! Even though these exploiters leave or get banned, the economy retains the duped money (on most cases) and it hurts A LOT the honest traders! I was sooo pissed when the first exploit was found on the bloodfin server, SWG.
Back to Halo2, our custom games will remain fun with exploits or not. Now matchmaking is a totally different story! I like to try matchmaking every once in a while, when I want to get a bit more competitive!

Well, now you guys know why Bungie controls the ranked gametypes.
No tanks or Spectres on Coagulation, no Swords to start with (unless that's the only weapon, in which case you can't Rocket Lunge anyway).
They planned things like this to show up, and that's why they make the playlists.

Yeah, I always knew that! If it's not controlled, there would be a lot of guys ranked 50 because they played against friends that let them win all the time!

Debating whether or not to use them or not is a valid topic, however, I believe they should be studied and counter strategies developed for if/when they are used against us, know your enemy and know the weak points in their plan.

If a team gives you the time to exploit all these map glitches they deserve to get their asses kicked. Why the hell would anyone let you take a wraith line up with a teammate ., take a few tries to get the super jump. then let you sword-lunge half your team to the crane?
