"Mebius" seems to refer to a SHARP Laptop, probably only for the japanese market. the placement in lain could be taken an an expansion of the product/brand (like the NAVI and Copland OS) or a simple paid plug from sharp.

On a whim I did a whois on the website. It was registered to a Tadzio Troman-Taylor, who appears to be a British web designer and programmer. The website is listed as being registered in 2003, and last updated in May of this year (2004).

Since the anime was released in 1998, the 2003 registration date casts suspicion on any official link between the series and the website, unless Tad bought the domain after the "official" owner used it for their purposes.

I remember this! This once did exist, but it wasn't a very stable website. Hard to navigate, and not very ARG-like. I know it because I'm a huge Serial Experiment: LAIN fan, and I'm always looking for sites about it.
