Sarah's Tree of Life Painting and the Shavian Alphabet

Sjct won the Tree of Life painting in the auction. She posted a section of the tree bark that she thought looked like Shavian letters. I think they are and I think they spell

Hmm..... Glastonbury in England is a mystical place that some know as 'the isle of Avalon'

An island then, certainly, but why Avalon? Avalon was the Otherworld home of one of the Celtic Underworld Gods, Afallach. Both names relate to the Apples that grew in this mystical land of the dead and show Avalon's possible relationship to other legendary realms such as the Garden of the Hesperides from Greek Mythology. Obviously, this is where a Celtic King, such as Arthur, would go when near to death, but there is still no hint of an identification with Glastonbury. The dubious Isle of Glass interpretation of the place-name could relate to Caer-Wydyr or "Fort of Glass," a third name for part of the Celtic Otherworld; but the real confirmation comes when you hear and old legend about Glastonbury Tor.

The Tor, that dominates the countryside around Glastonbury, is said to be the entrance to Annwfn, the Celtic Underworld, and the Palace of Gwynn ap Nudd, the primary Underworld God (and Afallach's brother) stands within it. The 7th century hermit, St.Collen was often told that Gwynn lived there, but the saint would have none of it; until, one day, he was invited to visit by one of the God's fairy-folk followers. He entered the Tor and the Fairy Palace, and sat through a fairy banquet but refused to eat anything. He then flung holy-water all around him and all his surroundings disappeared!

So Glastonbury was considered to be the entrance to the Celtic Underworld, be it Annwfn or Avalon, and the town's claim to be the Isle of Avalon may not be quite as outrageous as some think.

My first thought was in regards to Marion Zimmer Bradley's novel The Mists of Avalon which returns the tale of Arthur to its origins in the Dark Ages and is the first account told from the perspective of the women who have always been an integral part of the Arthurian legend. The Lady of the Lake, presides as high priestess on the mist-shrouded Isle of Avalon, the pagan seat of power, and a mystical world invisible to nonbelievers. Across the mist was Glastonbury. Also, Avalon bordered the land of Fairey that was even more invisible due to nonbelievers. Seems to fit the situation.

Blodeuwedd is the Welsh Maiden Goddess, revered on Avalon as the Goddess of new beginnings, independence and empowerment.

The name "Blodeuwedd" means "Flower Face", which refers to Her Flower origins as well as her association with the owl.... which in Wales, still bears Her name: Blodeuwedd.

Seems to tie in several things... nine... owl... flowers (foxglove).... hmmmm

Avalon and the Queen of All faries

Morgan Le Fay: Queen of Avalon
Four fairy queens brought the Celtic King Arthur to Avalon, after he got badly wounded during his last battle. With his knights of the Round Table, this Savior of Celts lies asleep in a hill of fairies, as long as time arrives for 'the one and only king' to awaken. King Arthur shall then appear to humanity again, to rule over his land Britain. The Celts were situated in Fairyland in hollow hills or deep in the center of the earth. They described the underground Fairy-kingdom as a pleasant summer land were time passes slower. Though visitors thought their time in Fairyland was short, after returning in the real world it appeared there was much more time passed: in some cases even a 100-200 years had gone by. In thinking, but especially in feeling, the world of elves and fairies is very different from the world of humans. The temperament of fairies is very complicated, as so is their behavior, which obeys their very own rules. That is why a precocious and respectful attitude is necessary by approaching or meeting a fairy
In all Arthur legends, Merlin the druid (or: shaman), is the person who has the key to the Celtic magical knowledge. Morgana Le Fay (Argante), the greatest of fairies, has entry to the Isle of Avalon. After the last battle of Arthur with Mordred she belonged with two other Fays to the group which did bring on a black shipthe deadly wounded king to Avalon. The two other Fays were: the Queen of the Northern Storms and the Queen of desserts. The Glastonbury Tor, a former island in Somerset (Summer Land), is seen by many as the legendary Isle of Avalon. As the stories say the Celtic Arthur must be resting in some underground cave in this 3d labyrinth-hill.

Morgan Le Fay & the nine

Morgan Le Fay was a fairy and has magical qualities, she could fly with wings and change shape. The Sisterhood of nine were also faries and had magical qualities,

Like other fairy-women, Morgan Le Fay wants to keep a mortal man in a "sensual paradise" of her own, so she creates a '"Valley without Return'" to entrap Arthur. There is a suggestion that her malice toward King Arthur is due to frustrated passion. There is also a mysterious relationship between Morgan Le Fay and "The Lady of the Lake".

As King Arthur died, nine muses appeared out of nowhere and silently carried his body to Avalon The Lady of the Lady was one of the three Queens who escorted the King to Avalon (where he was buried)

'Silver One'. British goddess queen of Avalon who is known for her healing powers. Her name might relate her to the Welsh goddess Arianrhod.
