Catweazl- it's true that Jon has a score, but he might not have used the site to do this; the email to tell us to try the site out mentions that it's only a 'self-test' and that we have to wait for the Director's assessment to know for real. In other words, the score we get is just so we have an idea in mind of our bargaining power when we actually get face to face with the Man himself.

So as for Jon's log on, I can think of two possibilities:

- it was filled in for him
- he filled it in himself after the initial "take me home" transport. Given that he's damned anyway, he uses his contract to take him to Babel to go to the library and do some research.

re Jon's birthday- could this be a password?

we know that the Hiding Room "logo" is Capricorn, so it may be that that is Jon's star sign

he is 32 years old now so if he is 33 next birthday, then his birth year would be 1971 or 72 (if his b'day is in January)

it may be that he's used his D.O.B as a password but not sure which date between 22 December and 19 Jan (the Capricorn period as per the Hornchurch Star Horiscope) is his b'day

this would mean that there quite a few permuations ie 22121971 or 221271 ? Has any one got the patience to try them all on the book in safe and the mezzanine door?

To all,

Keep plugging away, I just was able to enter the book in the safe in the hiding room so earlier thoughts that we are waiting for something are untrue. Unfortunately I have an exam to study for tonight and cannot spend any time looking at the entries in there. So those of you that are "waiting" for something to happen on the 22cnd get cracking again!!! After I get a chance to spend a few spare moments to read what is in the book I will post on here in spoiler form how to get inside. A hint to you all is that the password is gleaned from the guestbooks in the Pathway Travel site.
Cool

Sorry, I just can't help myself from posting...

I don't understand the rationale of finding an answer, then posting you found the answer (but only giving vague hints as to what it is) on a board where we are supposed to be working as a community to solve this. Are you worried that you won't get credit for your find? Or are you just hoping to have a leg up on all the rest of us so you can claim the reward at the end? Or are you just a troll who likes to taunt? If the first is the case, have no worries, this community gives full props to those who solve puzzles first (and even bigger bonuses if they can explain the solves). If it's the latter reasons, then I really see no reason why you should be able to use the work that the others have put into this forum (and since you're so smart, you shouldn't need this board to begin with).

We ran into a similiar situation awhile ago with ILB. Someone came into chat saying they had got a secret mission from Melissa but wouldn't give details. I felt the same thing then as I feel now: either share the information or keep the knowledge of such information secret. Because personally I find those who like to lord their "superior" knowledge over others a bit distastful. Oh who am I kidding ... a lot distasteful. IMHO that kind of attitude is just trollish.

Rowan, I totally agree. Its my initial instinct when reading a post like that one to assume the poster is lying and to just wait for someone with enough courtesy to come along and post an actual solve.

I dunno, I just find it rather rude and immature

That's pretty much the gist of it.

Rowan72,

I agree, and your reply was nicely stated. Smile

[edit]

Further infuriating is the fact that the password to get into the safe is one that I figured out only a night or two ago, but didn't realize it's significance.

For all of you who are not already in the know, to access the book in the safe:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

OFCOURSE!!!!!! How could we be so CARELESS as to not have tried that yet. Especially after me having tried every combination of the words / letters 'man in black' or 'book of star', and each of the place names, the word 'babel' in different variations.... so careless...

ohwell, onward and upward!

WHOA! Sorry if I offended anybody on here--I wasn't trying to gloat or anything. I'm new at this (My brother plays these things all the time) and I thought I would be giving a disservice by giving the answer right away. From what I understood everybody seemed to be waiting for something to happen on the 21st/22nd and giving up somewhat, I just wanted everybody to know that they didn't need to wait. From now on I promise to just put it up right away GOSH! Actually I told my brother, and I assume he let everybody know the answer since shortly after I told him it appears you all found out anyway Wink Guess he's more skilled in forum etiquette than I am. Does everybody forgive me or what? I really didn't mean to get anybody steamed at me Embarassed

For honest mistakes, of course you are forgiven. There is a huge difference between not knowing/understanding the rules/guidelines and actively trying to break them (or just wanting to ruffle everyone's feathers). The main reason I was so harsh (even though I was trying my hardest to tone down my words) is that I thought you were the latter. And since you obviously aren't, I hope that you will forgive me and let me welcome you to the fourms.

I can understand your confusion about us not wanting to be blatently informed (it's true, we sometimes don't)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
but that is what the spoiler tags are for.

or you can always write in teeny tiny letters but that can get annoying Very Happy

I do hope we haven't scared you away from playing with us. We tend to be very passionate about our games, and when we feel that someone's only goal is to screw with us, we get very upset (even if it turns out not to be the case). But we are a also fun-loving lot and love to have new people join us.
