Lastly, note the date (above the handwriting) is Nov 23rd - almost 3 weeks ago! Either the Hons have been wondering just when the hell one of these was finally gonna show up, or it might be some sort of clue (23112004), though I can't see what ATM.

Interesting that we have 2311 as the date and also 2210 on the postcard...

Figures, gone for the weekend and miss all the fun

i feel your pain....i havnt logged on since friday and look whats happened....anywase i dont know if anyone noticed (probably did) but that 'maze' around "PCPS" is hand drawn if it means anything to anybody and dosnt have any ending, both entrances lead to "PCPS" and vice-versa
I would say that this is maze is rather perplexing ( Smile couldnt reseist)

the square of binary stuff

has anyone figured out the square of binary info in the top right hand corner? it appeers to be a 20x20 grid although the edges seem to be spacers so it's likely to be 18x18.

I have tryed a couple of things but didnt find anything usefull.

I also tryed doing the maze on the PCPS rubber postal stamp looks kinda like a PS might just be silly though

Earlier someone mentioned that it was a semacode thing that linked to www.perplexcity.com

I think that the square of binary in the top-right corner is a semacode leading to perplexcity web site.
but I might be wrong.

postcard

Hey.

This may have been discussed before. but since the last post asked...

the grid is a data matrix (similar to a barcode) not a semacode. It does read "www.perplexcity.com" though.

Was disappointed with this too. trying to figure out a link with the big long number, cos a data matrix doesn't have a number attached to it, though the placement of it would suggest a relationship. perhaps 2210 is a key to unlock it. Also, trying to think about the significance of the "helloworld". Since this is commonly written as a program to test a new language it would appear to be too coincidental...it being written on a postcard from another world/time where the use of encryption and codes...languages is commonplace. maybe this is a key to a cipher? Or ultimately it could just be an Alan Wicker reference! (People outside the UK ignore this last bit. I'm just being an ass)

Also, just a thought. But the PCPS stamp could just stand for "Perplex City "and "Project Syzygy"? The map being a symbol depicting the crossover between the two?

Whicker: Father Pierre, why did you stay on in this colonial Campari-land where the clink of glasses mingles with the murmur of a million mosquitoes, where waterfalls of whisky wash away the worries of a world-weary Whicker, where gin and tonic jingle in a gyroscopic jubilee of something beginning With J - Father Pierre, why did you stay on here?

I reckon it's highly unlikely that any of these postcards have made their way to South Africa, but come weekend, I'm determined to pop out to the local airport and check anyway.

Hmmm, still not got any further with that number but here's some more stuff that the rest of you can skip over:

Thought about converting to base 8 but realised that there wouldn't be those number 8s in there if it was.

Equally, base 16 seems unlikely as there's no letters A-F in there.

I then tried doing a mod 26 calculation on the pairs of numbers and got 22 15 19 22 22 22 20 25 00 24 06 15

Mapping this to the alphabet gives the following, depending on where you put A:
A = 0 - VOSVVVTYZXFO
A = 1 - WPTWWWUZAYGP

Yeah, I don't see anything there either Sad

It's unlikely it's an ISBN number as they're only 10 digits and seem to all start with zero. Also doesn't look like a phone number, though I guess I could be wrong if there's a massive extension number on there.

Lastly, I tried (grasping at straws) arranging the original numbers in a 5 x 5 grid but again no obvious pattern. Not done quite yet but I'm starting to reach the bottom of my barrel of crypto techniques. God I hope it's not been run through more than one cryptographic method.

And FWIW, I bet when we do finally crack this it turns out to be something pretty much useless (such as a link to perplexcity.com). Or maybe it means nothing at all and they're just messing with us....
