SPEC: Possible partial solution for Greywethers.net

OK, I think I may have found part of the solution. I have a wedding to go to today, so hopefully, someone else can figure this out.

From: <psammead@greywethers.net>
To: <dale@synthasia.com>
Subject: re:
Date: 30 May 2003

perhaps by counting pages(13 in all)
and writing down names you find
a pattern will grow clear to you
and trigger something in your mind

these names made up of numbers
are quite intentional in size(I think 3 letters because the 3+4 page only makes one 4 letter word)
they're meant to show there's two on each(see above line)
one on either side

the names tell you which two are there
now find what they become
the plus sign has a purpose(I think how many letters to count ahead)
but it's not to find a sum

OK, so here's my thoughts.
1. The numbers stand for letters and the letters make up words. There is one on each side. The "equations" don't match up with the 2 numbers in the title, so we will have to figure out which word goes on which side.
2. Wether the number 0 is meant to be the letter O, I'm not sure. I've made up a list with the "O" words and without the "O" words.
3. Once the pattern is figured out, the + numbers = how many to count ahead to get the correct 3rd letter.

I hope this makes sense to someone. See the attaced doc below for the list of words for each page. The numbers in parentheses below the page title is how much the +numbers equal up to. And the letters in the parantheses come out to be: OADBKLEN. I can't get anything except OAK.

I hope someone solves this before I get home tonight. That is, if my spec is right. Surprised

i believe psammead already followed up to confirm that these clues simply led us to the concept of the alphabet.
    13 pages,
their names have two numbers in each,
one on either side of the plus sign,
    list all the numbers,
the pattern shows that the numbers from 1 thru 26 are used,
therefore the URLs represent the alphabet in pairs.

I'd have to search for his response in poem form, posted here somewhere.

But keep up the creative spec. Something you say may yet trigger an idea for someone else.

I think this is what you may have been thinking of catherwood:
Subject: triplet

the name of each page has two numbers
and on each many formulas fall
but the thing that you need
is an alphabet indeed
as twenty six there is total in all

so if 1 plus 6 equals letters
one on each side of the sign
how could you know
how the other numbers go
there must be some way to divine

there's one thing that separates the numbers
on the page as the same in the name
so look for that sign
it's there by design
and it shows you which ones are the same

_______
Here is one part of an email from psammead that made me think of using the numbers as letters, and not as numbers (Huh?)

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=10696#10696

where numbers may have stopped your path
a new way lies, devoid of math
step by step you must progress
before any truths I may confess

I really started thinking last night after Magesteff asked if Synthasia had a glitch with the read only mail. I saw what she saw. The repeat of the email from Psammead on May 30. So I figured that if it was sent twice, it must really mean something.

I understand that the URL pages show all 26 letters of the alphabet. But I was building on Abu's spec that the 1+6 (A+F)= ?. And the ? (missing letter) would than "transmute" into one of the letters from ADIGNOES. If we are to transmute ADIGNOES, then wouldn't all the letters change into another letter? I guess I'm thinking that the title of the html pages are part of the code/decode.

Does that help clear up what I was trying to say?
**EDIT-I was going to sleep last night, and I realized I forgot the most important thing of my spec. I am replacing the numbers in the "Equations" with letters and that is how I am coming up with all the 3 letter words.**

So, for the 1 + 6 (A + F) page (remember, the numbers equal letters, but they transform into something else), the common links I've found are:

triple (remember the email from psammead titled "Triplets"?) B's. So therefore, 1 + 6 (A + F) = Q. So the letter A in ADIGNOES would transmute into Q.

My husband didn't understand either. I wish I could post the page I worked up in this section and not as an attachment. Actually, I can, but it will be really long. But for those that can't open it.....Here it goes Very Happy

A+F
1+6 html
(+7, +6, +2 = 15) So 15 letters away from the "common link" would be "Q" (Sorry, I'm not doing that for every page. There are too many common links for some of the pages and I hope that explains what I'm trying to say for the other numbers in parentheses.)

BTW, I found this great site that lists the words that can be made from a bunch of letters. The anagram server's wouldn't give you all the possible words if the left over letters didn't make a word. And with this site, I can possibly beat my husband at some game Very Happy . Time to get out the Scrabble again.

I have a question for someone.

How can an html page have 2 font colors for one line? The June 13 email that pops up again at Synthasia, has this in the source code:

<p>the names tell you which two are there

now find what they become

the plus sign has a purpose

but it's not to find a sum </p>

I learned that #FFFFFF is white and
#00000 stays black.

There is no other "beginning" code for the font color. I checked some of the other emails at Synthasia. They do not have the same coding.

Could this be a clue or am I grasping at straws again Very Happy

Usually the white is the background color.
