[THEMES] IG references to SA

I was snoopin around the net looking for more on the Man, and I have been really interested to note all of the different IG nods to SA. I think it might be a good idea to get these all in one place, and someone can edit them into the Wiki, too.

Obviously, we don't want to disturb the curtain, but the game is making a bunch of obvious nods to the SA ad campaigns that I have never been exposed to because I live in the US. Let's get them down here.

A couple of places in the loft at thehidingroom are recreations of Stella print ads, as I understand it. These include:

- You can't see it, but the car poster in Jon's kitchen shows signs of the damage that would happen if you tried to open a beer bottle on the boot.

- The refrigerator in his kitchen is a recreation of a print ad. If you can't tell, the only content of the fridge is a keg of SA.

- Apparently there was a commercial that explored the background of prisoners going to the Devil's Island Penal Colony featured over at PT.com (check out http://www.theperlmanpages.i12.com/news/stella.htm for a synopsis of the commercial).

- The Man in Black sighting pictures from HWAU.com and SS.com are adaptations from a recent "Reassuringly Expensive" print ad campaign which has people selling their souls for some SA. Check out http://www.pdnonline.com/photodistrictnews/headlines/gallery.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000529643&no=1 for the orignials, photographed by Olaf Veltman.

Den Horen has a bottle of Stella in his hand in his picture in the Hornchurch Star. And then there's all the references to horns, stars, Leuven and 1366 as I summarised here.

An Apple a Day...

These apples... they're drivin' me crazy. What with all the Apple/Eden/Snake/Devil/Bible references, I wouldn't be surprised if Stella is putting out an apple beer, or maybe a cider à la Strongbow, and Jon Harker is hiding out in NYC ("The Big Apple"), giving talks about the benefits of Macs over PC's or some such.

Or maybe this is a sign that I should quit for the day. Sigh. Screwy

The Devil's Island ad that you linked to was based on the novel 'Papillon' (set at Devil's Island). Remember previous references to the butterflies..?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Just in case you didn't - butterflies are representative of human souls. Look at the Sable and Shuck privacy policy, the ads in the Hornchurch Star etc.

This novel is french, appropriate to Stella Artois whose ads have been based on the Jean de Florette theme for many years and have had French dialogue.

Being in merry ol' england i can tell you that the Stella ads, along the 'sell your soul for a beer' theme, are slowly seeping into current media.
You can find them in trendy/elitist magazines, and now also in basic day papers.

The tv campaign has been in a similar vein of thought.
All the adverts pertain from the idea of what people are willing to risk, give up or do, in order to get a pint...

This link http://www.stellaartois.co.uk/swf/mainMovie.html gives you a list of all the ads, and info behind each one.
As you can see, there is one on the prisons going to Papillion(think butterflies), one on the 'film' reviewed in the hornchurch(The Pilot) and even one on The Good Doctor(my personal facourite).

As these ads have been going for over a decade, its intruiging to think how long they've been planning this game...

Oops!

Forgot to mention,if you browse around that site you can find www.whereisjon.com as a link in the 'Best Films' bit.

Also, i'm seriously doubting it, but the 'Red Shoes' film might be related to the traditional tale and ballet about the dancing woman. You know the one, she is warned not to wear the shoes but does anyway and is cursed to dance forever untill a woodsman chops off her feet... Nice.

Finally, What timezone is this site in??? No-ones ever here! Razz
