e numbers

i was always told e numbers are bad for you!
Just an update on the directory numbers.
I've run the flamin' things through as many transformations and alterations as I can think of, and compared them to all sorts of lovely big numbers, with no joy.
I'm pretty certain that there's no relevance to them, and as for a couple of them showing up in the decimal of "e", when "e" has been found to over a thousand decimal places a ten digit stream could turn up quite innocently. Gave it a go though cos I'm getting bored waiting for the kick off. The postcards are an exciting turn up though. Hurrah!

Hi, and welcome!

Are you talking about the cache file names in this directory? Because they are most definitely 10-digit chuncks of e, and they are all right from the beginning of the number, so it's clearly not a coincidence.

Maybe you're talking about that long number from the postcard? In either case, though, this is not the right place to do it. Actually, should we make a separate [PUZZLE] thread for it?

Doh!

Right you are then. I now know how our search software works a little better, and have embarrassed myself. Embarassed
As for why it was posted here, it was an update to something I said earlier on this stream, and as you say, there isn't really anywhere to talk about this subject.
The moderators can always delete it.

intro

Hello I'm Mikey

also been knocking around since the Firebox winter catalogue, and have made one or two unhelpful posts since; stating the obvious. Assuming that the PMs are reading all this religiously would it be possible to request something involving bacteria...? I'm quite good with bacteria. Aside from that I will be extremely useful at jumping to conclusions and miscalculation

quite excited Screwy

Hi Mikey,

Your first few posts seem to suggest that you have met all the qualifying criteria for fitting in round here, i.e. you're insane and obsessed with some niche area of science Wink

Welcome to the wacky world of UF!

Welcome Mikey,

if you search PCPS you'll eventually find links to cells and genes!

Help, I mean enjoy!

Hi everybody. I had the Firebox catalogue through today with a package, and flicked through it this evening. This is the first time I've seen anything about Perplex City, so I'm having some fun catching up. I'm pretty tired now, so I'll make sure I try and get up to spped some time tomorrow.

I've never really participated in an ARG before, despite being fascinated with the idea. I knew about ilovebees, but didn't have the time to devote to it. The only relevant thing I've looked at before was the campaign for A.I. - although I only checked that out briefly. I'm sure I've got a lot to learn, including a number of basic investigative techniques, so apologies in advance for any stupid questions either here or in the IRC room.

I'm looking forward to joining in.

Hmmm.. introductionating....

o) I am Shish
o) I found out about ARGs by typing random URLs: ilovebeer, ilovefish, iloveknees, ilovebees...
o) I do lots of programming
o) I am so. fscking. tired. I stay up until 2am*, note I should get to bed, and "just another 5 minutes" later it's gone 5... (* on schooldays; at weekends I don't bother trying to sleep - my programming to-do list is too long, and schoolwork needs doing too...)
o) I find weird people are better people; people who conform for the sake of it annoy me (as do people who only unconform because it's the in-thing - "If you want to be cool you have to be anti-conformist, just like everyone else!"...)
o) In primary school they had to add a column onto the school results sheet as I was the only person to get GCSE standard in any subject in year 6
o) Secondary school killed my love of education; It was so boring I couldn't concentrate, and my grades dropped so fast I did worse in GCSEs than I could have done if I took them 5 years early Evil or Very Mad
o) I'm hoping ARGing can bring back my long lost love of intellectualism Very Happy
o) This is my first ARG

A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting in my living room, minding my own business, and thinking about getting a new TV. I saw a television commercial made by Sharp which looked interesting and directed people to www.moretosee.com.

moretosee.com had some info about the TV, but also had a link to morewasseen.com, the beginning of the Sacred Urns ARG. I had never heard of ARG before, but it sounded like fun! I spent a few days catching up on Sacred Urns, but then read posts that said that there was general consensus that it had been solved already.

Looking for something similar to participate in that hadn't started yet, I followed the link to unfiction, then found myself here! Razz

AH yes, it turns out that SHarp is really a fictional company that was 'created' just to lead more people here Smile
Good job on following the trail Smile

So here I am!

Greetings, all! Stumbled onto unfiction a few weeks ago, and took a swing at Tranquil Valley. I enjoyed it, but the pace was a bit slow there, so I've given up and I'm waiting for Perplex City to get underway... shoud be interesting! And I'm thinking there won't be any problems with slow pacing on this one!
