Good work on the handwriting, tanner. Not sure I'm comfortable pursuing it though, I feel like I'm peeking a bit (even though it was me who bought up the idea of an analysis)!

I know it doesn't tell us much anyway, but to be honest, I think that doing handwriting analysis is perfectly in bounds... It would be one thing if we were tricking Adrian into signing something, so we could compare handwriting analysis results, but this, IMHO is harmless. And you never know, it could detail a level of immersion that was created for that sole purpose...

But again, IMO, if you give players little more than a small typed letter, a couple (at best) of webpages, no real puzzles, and a postcard, and the only linking factor is the signature...

Hell, check out that signature! I say great work, tanner, and while yeah, it really does nuttin in terms of gameplay (so far) I still think it's a great idea! I love it!

Latin...

As it was brought up...

"quaerere initium sapientiae"

means

"Seeking begins wisdom"
Though I will get this confirmed by a Latin 'expert' in Yorkshire at the weekend!

PCPS i believe is just bad maths!

general game spec leading into spec specifc to the postcard done mainly to get my thoughts sorted and ordered (and of course to also see if I'm on the same page as anyone else).

Perplex City Academy is a research center in another world/dimension/time. Until a short time ago, the Cube was there. It allowed people and large objects to cross over into our world/dimension/time (and maybe others).

The Cube was stolen and brought into this world/dimension/time. Now only letters, postcards, and presumably other small items can pass over (due perhaps to other smaller cubes), hence Sente's need for our help in finding the Cube and his need to pass messages through intermediaries (the "MC" noted in the postcard). The maze on the PSPS stamp could be considered indicative of the complexity of passing messages between the two places/times.

The "helloworld" message on the front could be a sign to Sente's contacts here that the method for passing messages and items across is stable. (That conduit could be what the test equipment mentioned in the error log files was testing.) In a non-game sense, I think the postcard indicates that the framework for the game is in place (hence the appearance in two widely separated locations) and the attempt to recruit players has begun.

anything sound way off base? am I just restating the obvious (well, in at least one sense I am as this all seemed obvious to me)?

Ok, this will probably lead nowhere, but I noticed that the number 221545484848464100503215 could be broken up into 6 digit groups and represented as web colors. And the result is:

221545 484848 464100 503215

Earthtones!

2210 in Chinese

Hi

I was looking at 2210 from the back of the postcard, and decided to look it up in my Kanji Dictionary (chinese script in the japanese lanugage)

Although i dont think its done in the standard form, character 2210 is Kyu, meaning SEEK!

well, it was something.!

*That* is actually very interesting !
Keep your Kanji reference ready to cheon anything else we may encounter.

F.O.R.

Have been lurking for a while and thought it might be time to say hello. Getting slowing drawn into this but was prompted to stick my head above the parapet by the Japanese translation of character 2210 being ‘seek’. In Simplified Chinese, the character 2210 in the codify list is ‘diu’, which means ‘lost’. Probably just a coincidence, but you never know. It got me quite excited for a minute, though! The long number split into sequences of 4 doesn’t really mean much (and only 3 of the 6 sets of numbers actually have a corresponding number). The link to the Chinese character list is http://www.fosu.edu.cn/chengjiao/uploadfile/256-1.doc (but you obviously need Asian characters/scripts installed to view it).

Will try and to throw some enlightening comments in when I’ve got some but have to admit that most of the maths stuff is way beyond me.

BTW, don’t know if the airport on the Project Syzygy homepage was ever identified in another thread (did I see Ataturk airport mentioned somewhere?) and I apologise in advance if it has but it looks a bit like Helsinki to me. But then again, airport recognition was never one of my strengths.

I tried that earlier, but figured it was a dead end because there is no number larger than 8 in there, so they're all going to be dark colours.

well if we can have colours then we can have music i guess Very Happy

here is my waste of time but it was fun

its the transposition of the 24 digits into a music midi

i used the octave, key of C, (the white notes) with 0 equal to middle C

i,e D = 1 E = 2 etc

pleasant little ditty if played in repeats --- the last bar works nicely with the first -- i specially liked bar 4

i'm sure its a big hit in the perplex city music charts

Laughing Laughing Laughing
edit -- see later post

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tanspace/ssm/perpno.mid

however its just fun --- im sure it doent mean anything
.

Yo, forum lurker signing in. (I'm active in the IRC chan)

People previously mentioned the Solitare Cipher, so I went and implemented it for us in a nifty little program.

You put in a key, or no key, and it'll splurt out numbers and do some modulus arithmetic with the evil number.

If anyone wants the source code (in C++), just ask.

Here it is:
(bleh, no upload space. I'll PM/Email anyone who wants it, or feel free to give me FTP space for it)

Oh, and I tried the middle academy text, helloworld and no-key, and none of them gave any real meaning. The key accepts a single line, and any spaces/non-letters are ignored.

I just realised that the Academy logo is in the bottom right corner of the postcard but the current scan we have isn't high-res enough to read all the names.

It would be nice to have a higher res version because all the other pictures of the logo don't show all the names.

Also, is the only clue we haven't solved the group of numbers?

I can't wait till the game starts.
Not long now....
