help me find my son

My name is Shana. Ewan is my son. He disappeared on his 18th birthday. I've never been sure if he ran away from home or if he was abducted. I'm desperate to find him and bring him home.

A little over a week ago a man in a wheelchair rolled into my office, said his name was "Hef Dvorack", and handed me a slip of paper with the following written upon it:

dyylSzzurpgmovgbucjycrbvjrmzurpgmozkc.,urpgmvldlZu]61

Then he spun away. It's taken me this long to decode it. I haven't read much, but what I have read thus far is worrisome and confusing. I must say it's come as somewhat of a shock to find out that my son is keeping a LJ and that it has attracted a group of online friends trying to help him.

Please be a good friend to him. Please help me. Tell me where to find him so I can bring him home.

Don't worry Shana, we're as concerned for Ewan's safety as you are. Maybe you can fill in some of his history for us, tell us a little more about the man behind the journal entries.

Oh, and quick quiz: What's your favourite colour, red or blue?

Translates to:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=61

or the URL to this forum! This is the same Dvorak -> Qwerty keyboard cypher that we saw earlier in Heph's note to Ewan's, see:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1170&highlight=dyylszzurpgmovgbucjycrbvjrmzurpgmozkc+urpgmvldlzu+61

What's changed its the forum #. Heph's first note refered to the CTW forum, this one points to us. Hmm. Was the first one a mistake, and this is a correction?

At least I'm glad to see that Hef is ok and escaped the clutches of Dr. Morrice.

Ewan disappeared on his 18th birthday. I sometimes wondered if he'd just wandered off and forgotten his way home. He had become extremely absent-minded since entering high school. After he was gone, I searched his room for clues and found a journal in which he wrote detailed write-ups of the seemingly important events in his life. He wrote that he had become so bored with his life that he had determined to take no notice of it. He pushed and pushed against the barrier of the present until he slipped through it and began living perpetually one moment into the future. From this vantage point even the most mundane tasks were a breeze, because the bulk of the work was forever in the past. On top of this he ceased committing the past to memory. Or so he wrote. I used to ask him about things he'd done years before and he would reply, "I can't remember what I was doing this time yesterday, much less a year ago." I think that's why he kept such detailed notes on his epiphanies. And though he now ascribes it to a "Sister Sparrow", I think that is why he continues to keep notes on his life to this day.

I am still working my way through the posts in this forum. I'm not sure what to make of this "Red Queen" -- she had me up until the whole "hey I'm an oracle" thing, or this "Dr. Morrice". I called the only Klepsydra I could find and the man that answered said they had no doctor by that name; on a whim I asked if there was a "Sister Sparrow" and he said that there was but that she was gone for the day. Curiouser and curiouser. I'm really worried that my son is in need of some serious help. I have come across several posts referring to this as "a game". This is not a game; this is a matter of life and death.

I talked to shana in chat the other day.. this is what she said:

<danman_d> OK, how much can you tell me about Ewan?
<shana1> I'd like to say I can tell you anything you want to know, but honestly I worry since he ran away that I don't know him anymore and perhaps never really did. It's a scary thought for a mother.
<shana1> Time to go back to slogging through the forums.
<danman_d> :/
<shana1> Email me at shanaSPLATfivesided.com if you can help me find him.
<danman_d> ok, I'll do that.
<shana1> Thank you for being so friendly.

Shana: If you'd like me to keep your e-mail address private, let me know and I'll remove the address.

I was going through old boxes looking for a picture of Ewan today. He hated to have his picture taken, or to be videotaped. Whenever I would sneak a camcorder into some event of his, he would later steal the tape (no matter how carefully I had hidden it) and smash it with a hammer. I think maybe I gave him a complex about his smile. There are so many things that I would do different if he'd just come home.

I found a few pictures of him, though, including one head-on shot that's decent enough. I was thinking of making one of those "MISSING PERSONS" posters with it. What do you think?

I don't suppose any of you are design-inclined? I'm trying to make a "HAVE YOU SEEN ME?" sign with Ewan's photo and it always comes out looking amateurish. I'd ask one of the graphic designers at work for help, but I fear that they'd look down on me for holding out hope after all of this time.

Email me if you want a copy of the picture. Include your address maybe so I can gauge the distribution of friends across the world for when it comes down to send out the completed poster for plasting around your cities.
