'Numb3rs,' '24' Tinker with Premieres
(Thursday, December 16 02:29 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) FOX is planning to offer fans of '24' a little bit more action up front, while those who like mathematics mixed with forensics will have to wait just a bit longer for the premiere of CBS' midseason drama "Numb3rs."
As was announced earlier, the fourth season of FOX's Emmy-winning "24" will start on Sunday, Jan. 9 with a two-hour premiere. Viewers will get an extra treat the next night with an additional two hours beginning at 8 p.m. ET. By the time "24" settles into its regular time period on Monday, Jan. 17, the season will already be four hours into the latest longest day in Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland).

From that point, "24" will run without repeats or preemptions through to its finale.

This season begins with an explosion on a commuter train and soon Jack is back to his renegade ways trying to save Los Angeles and maybe the world from a vague, but catastrophic terrorist threat. After extensive housecleaning within the cast, "24" now co-stars Kim Raver ("Third Watch"), William Devane ("Knots Landing"), Oscar-nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo ("The House of Sand and Fog") and Nestor Serrano ("The Day After Tomorrow") and features Aisha Tyler ("Friends") in a recurring role.
Originally set to premiere on Friday, Jan. 21, CBS will hold "Numb3rs" back by three days to capitalize on the audience for Sunday's AFC Championship. The Jan. 23 premiere will be followed by the drama's move to its regular time period at 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28.

"Numb3rs" features David Krumholtz ("The Lyon's Den," "Grounded For Life") as a mathematics genius enlisted by his FBI agent brother (Rob Morrow of "Northern Exposure") to use his gift with numbers to solve complicated Los Angeles-based crimes for the Bureau. "Numb3rs" co-stars Peter MacNicol ("Ally McBeal"), Judd Hirsch ("Taxi"), Sabrina Lloyd ("Sports Night") and Alimi Ballard ("Dark Angel"). Ridley Scott and Tony Scott executive produce.
