[SPEC] Zhang Jiao and Journey to the West

Okay, I've done a bit of research, and I swear Master Bao is just full of it.

Some of the stuff about Zhang Jiao on life0.htm is true, some of it is mixed up and some of it just seems to be made up.

For starters, from what I have found, Zhang Jiao has no connection to the story Journey to the West. Zhang Jiao, according to Wikipedia, held the Yellow Turban Rebellion around 184 AD. The Journey to the West was based on the monk Xuan Zang who lived around 600 AD.

While it does seem to be true that Zhang Jiao fought against the Imperial forces with his brothers Bao and Liang, Jiao doesn't seem to have survived the Rebellion. I guess it's just more romantic to seem like he gave up his mortal life based on a vision. (Or else our Bao has had one too many visions while eating mushrooms or something).

Is Bao just putting pieces of Chinese mythology randomly together so that he can control that masses better? Or is he just an idiot? Very Happy

I say a 75/25 mix of the two. Remember, we're talking about a cultist leader here. Demagogury for them is a special class skill.

The scary part is that the big ceremony is to come, and it's going to use Jill. Winter being ideal, I'd bet on December 20, the winter solstice.

I'd also bet that his lies regarding Chinese mythology and history are cover for something else - note that we're still waiting to see where H.P. Lovecraft fits into all of this. I expect a Twilight Zone moment.

Not sure, but the Yellow Emperor sounds quite familiarin regard to Lovecraft .

There are some stories of August Derleth, in which the "King in Yellow" is an avatar of the Lovecraftian "Hastur".

Furthermore "The King in Yellow" is a book by Robert W. Chambers (from 1865) which is said to have inspired a lot of Lovecraft's ideas and themes.

*Note to myself: not a nice creature to summon* Wink
