PM Chat: Team Forums

Following is the full transcript with PM bolded.

Summary: Player boards for ingame interaction and team discussion will be provided at http://pandoranext.com. They'll be up sometime on Dec. 21.

Quote:
[danielgary] i'd just like to take a moment to request both boards, UF and IU, to lay aside past emnities to be able to play Pandora Next
[danielgary] it's ridiculous for a stupid argument to intefere with a game
[danielgary] it is up to the Team Leaders to decide where their teams communicate, and the team members have two options
[danielgary] they can either play the game, and post in their team's forums, or they can not play
[danielgary] this endless bickering needs to stop
[danielgary] thats all i have to say about it
[bill] as much as I'm for a show of unity, I'm not sure it's feasible to tell people where they have to play
[danielgary] no, its not, but thats the idea of a team leader, they lead the team
[danielgary] but heres a thought
[bill] I'm assuming the curtain is clamping shut sometime between now and Wednesday?
[danielgary] what if i set up an IG board at PandoraNext?
[danielgary] and yes bill, the curtain goes up midnight tomorow night
[bill] when you say in-game, do you intend for characters to interact on the boards with players?
[RungeKutta] dan: that would be ok
[danielgary] yes, as well as players to interact as a team
[RungeKutta] dan: one way I thought to overcome the problem is to use both UF and IU ... since the other 2 teams are already there
[RungeKutta] and IU obviously for IG interactions
[danielgary] that gets to be a problem though RK, why not just consolidate into a single PN board?
[bill] I think people will tend to play where they are comfortable regardless. Trying to enforce compliance will be futile.
[RungeKutta] dan: thats fine
[RungeKutta] dan: I just thought if you weren't going to provide one
[danielgary] i understand RK
[RungeKutta] dan: I should have been more specific though
[RungeKutta] the majority of uf posts are meta anyway
[bill] and character posting is verboten
[Amend] we can't be expected to work as a team if they can't even agree to communicate with the team
[RungeKutta] I think, personally, Ustice would make a good team leader
[danielgary] this is obviously an issue for the teams to decide, but if it would ease the problems, i will put up a PN board tomorrow
[RungeKutta] I'm afraid the others on UF are minors
[Amend] the leader should have final say so on where the team communicates and the poll allows everyone to vote and it be fair
[RungeKutta] dan: put one up, then if we can't come to a consensus, we'll use yours
[RungeKutta] dan: heh, we'll probably end up using it
[danielgary] why not allow teams to vote on where to post?
[RungeKutta] sure
[Amend] thats fine
[bill] you could, but the result either way is some people would rather not play than abandon the forum they're most comfortable with
[RungeKutta] I'll post were-ever the team leader wants us to
[Greyelf] dan: you have the lists of team members, can you send them an email asking each for their prefs.
[RungeKutta] bill: I think you're correct
[bill] i hate being the devil's advocate here, because I understand what you're trying to accomplish
[Amend] Daniel shouldn't be the one to do that grey
[bill] but I'm also trying to be realistic considering the timeframe we're looking at
[danielgary] ...ill let the community work on this for the rest of tonight, and in the morning i will check, if nothing decisive happens, i will put up the boards tomorrow midday-afternoon
[Amend] the team leader, once chosen can ask the team for their preference
[danielgary] i understand, and appreciate it bill, but i still think it can be
[danielgary] done
[Greyelf] Dan is the only person who knows everyone that has singed up though
[Greyelf] signed even
[danielgary] is everyone ok with a board at PN, no objections? thats all in game and you can work puzzles out there
[danielgary] and if you want to talk meta, you can retreat to your own respective boards?
[bill] Dan, i would plan on putting the board up. It seems to work pretty well for Steinitz and Regenesis
[danielgary] ok, consider the board done tomorrow
[bill] they both have ingamers participating and everyone gets along fine
[RungeKutta] dan: ok, sounds good man
[RungeKutta] dan: I think that'll be the most neutral thing that can be done
[danielgary] let all the teams know that IG posting , puzzle solving, team work will be done there, and meta conversations can be taken elsewhere
[danielgary] i will send out a mass e-mail tomorrow letting everyone know

What enmity? There isn't any enmity between the boards. If the PMs want the forums to work together or want us on a particular board, then they should just say so. However, the PMs have to abide by the rules of each forum, so we should make it easier for them by moving to one forum or another. Obviously, I have vested interests in this forum, since I seem to have fans here, but I'm game for whichever.

Well, I tend to lean towards staying here at Unfiction, but I think it's probably for the best that everything be consolidated. It will make things easier and communication among the team will be simplified. I've already ran into one occasion where a puzzle was solved over at IU, but we at UF didn't know about it for a while. So, yeah, I'm all for the ingame forums at the pandora next site. We can always still talk about the game at our preferred boards.

I think it's a good idea for a board at pandoranext.com. But I am willing to go anywhere with the team, whatever works out best.

i'll go wherever the action is, something in me likes the idea of a central pandoranext-supplied forum though.

bah I feel like I started this Sad if I did, I honestly didn't mean to come off like I had a preference for either forum... it's just I spent way too much time on ilovebees while it was active, that I can't justify to myself being a regular at more than one forum, and since I'm actively involved in other areas of unfiction than just pandora next, that's the reason I said that I could check elsewhere every so often but my main conversing would take place on unfiction, with the trust that those members who do frequent whatever other sources there are, will take info to and fro as necessary... there's no enmity or ill will or anything between boards, at least from my perspective.

But I agree that now that two major forums are involved in the arg, then the main discussion should be agreed upon in one location, whether one forum or the other, or on a third setup specifically to house it.

I vote for PN, just because it' a neutral ground, and I agree that when it comes to straight meta, take it to wherever you feel most comfortable... but as a team, the leader should decide where all info should be posted as the central source for the team... ie, there should be at least one or two people who frequent both boards to make sure everyone has all the info...we'd hate to have someone solve a puzzle on one forum, but the other board not knowing about it at all for some time...

as for me, as I said, due to time constraints, and that I don't know if I'll be one of the more actively involved members, I won't be able to frequent the IU and PN forums as much as I do UF... and it has nothing to do with bias or favouritism... well, preference yes, simply because I'm doing more here outside of Pandora... but that's it, really Smile

Let's try to be an effective team here... ie teamwork and respect for each other and across forums... productivity is a good thing Smile
