Not the site by itself, pronage. You have to sign in so you can find a friend by looking up his name...

Glad I created an e-mail adress for this ARG. I shudder to think the number of spam-lists I will end up in if the rate of registering goes on like this.

Anyway, I checked the Wiki - Couldnīt find the link there. That got me quite pissed, I must add.

4.7. - previously 6.7.
8.7. - this entry is new, wasn't here before
13.8. - previously 11.8.
14.8. - previously 13.8. (new link has been added)
27.8. - previously 29.8.
31.10. - previously 23.10.

i get the feeling this e-mail is telling us more than we think: '...although mistakes can be extremely revealing...'

is jon trying to say that we should follow in the line mentioned in another thread about the mistakes within substitution codes being a clue to a further code? also, the changing of the dates within the cache itself could be a clue to a code.

mutatis mutandis - that having being changed what had to be changed

i think this might lead somewhere.

Its a bit of a disappointment... looks like no new information for a bit.

How I found it:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I found it via the August 14th cache entries' useful link. Was that link even there before today? Turns out the crossword was good for something...

Well, I still have my cache open from earlier. There is no August 14 entry. There are no entries for July either, for that matter.

Wow..I'm really sorry about that. I know that the Wiki should have all the information on it within seconds of it being posted on UF, but alas, I obviously fell behind in my task. Maybe it was because I was transcribing the new text for the December 21st entry. Maybe it was because I was trying to see what Jon's useful link so I could see how the solve was made. But if you want, next time I can just make up a reason for the solve - who cares if it can't be independently verified or not.

Or, since it IS a Wiki, why don't you take the time to add an entry yourself? It's not hard. Takes a few seconds to register a user name and then you're good to go. Then you'll only have yourself to blame for information not being there.

In other words, if you don't like the Wiki, either contribute or don't go there. But don't bash it simply because it's not up to date. As a user of the Wiki, you are partly responsible for it.

Nice work there, Angie. I havenīt checked all the dates, but the new entry on 8th of July seems promising. If you read the review, you will find a mention to Jon Harker, plus a link to a song.

Now you English-speakers please go and check if the song is of any help. Translating a song in way off my league.

Sorry, Rowan, I think there was a little misunderstanding. What got me pissed was the fact that the "Useful link" wasnīt on The Cache before today, not on the Wiki. I just used the Wiki to confirm this theory. And it really wasnīt on the Cache, because if you check Jonīs profile on the friend finder stuff you will see that it was written on December 20.

So I got pissed īcause I spent quite some time trying to find some logic in the crossword solution (even with Fibonacci spirals and so), but there wasnīt any solution until today.

Anyway, I guess this is also a good opportunity to say that I really admire your effort and everybody elseīs to update the forum and the wiki. I just donīt do it more often because my English may cause misinterpretations - as you could see first-hand in the case above. Smile

Apparently, I'm still getting a cached copy of the hiding room.
Not only is the Aug 14 entry not there, the new password won't take either.

johnny..

Yeah I can't get it to work either. I thought this might be all a ruse, but there seems to be technical problems.

Cached versions?

On the outages.. I'm thinking there's either cached or separate versions of the sites. Last night there were several reports of the site being down from people a significant distance from me (I'm in Seattle, WA, USA), but the site seemed fine to me... either that or a possible overload from users trying to get to the new entries... Smile Either way, my guess is hang in there for a bit, and hopefully it'll heal itself.

What about the "thcrc" mistake from the cipher that everyone brings up at least two times a day?

mutatis mutandis

coupla things

re mutatis mutandis (English Law)

don't know if some of the PM's are legal bods but I come across this phrase pretty much every day in my line of work - it is a standard phrase in legal contracts, which means sort of "vice versa"

ie if a seller of a house wants certain clauses going ino a contract in his favour - then the buyer's solicitor will add the words "and this clause applies mutatis mutandis in favour of the buyer" to the contract

re the "password"
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
CONFER - what exactly is this the password to?
