What about the "thcrc" mistake from the cipher that everyone brings up at least two times a day?

Maybe create a new thread for the thcrc and other "spelling errors" that we find that may/may not be significant?

so far we have confirmed (as far as I know)

Exit music for a film -> should be edit so X -> D
thcrc -> should be there so C ->E

I'm disregarding the "somplete red herring" mentioned in some other threads as I agree with a previous poster (sorry! cant remember who posted that and where Question ) that this was a misinterpretation of a Q for a G, making it a perfectly viable "complete red herring"

Typos/Errors.

I'm home and will start on it now. If I don't find an entry elsewhere, I'll put it in the 'possible puzzles' section on the wiki site.

re mutatis mutandis (English Law)

don't know if some of the PM's are legal bods but I come across this phrase pretty much every day in my line of work - it is a standard phrase in legal contracts, which means sort of "vice versa"

ie if a seller of a house wants certain clauses going ino a contract in his favour - then the buyer's solicitor will add the words "and this clause applies mutatis mutandis in favour of the buyer" to the contract

mutatis mutandis -- (with) the necessary changes being made

Arrrrrrgh.

ugh. brain melt. Not really seeing any typos in hornchurch or the base part of hiding room. Most of the typo clues (if any) should be in the journal, or the flash pages for pathways.. arrrrrrgh, must.... sleep... now.

I haven't checked the old XML for the "Cache" but in the new one at least if you look carefully you'll see something rather odd.

For the majority of the months the XML for a post looks like this:

Quote:
<EntryData Subject="BlogEntry" Postdate="03.07.04">
<UserName />
<EntryText>

I have no idea how to stop Sable & Shuck.

There is nobody I trust enough to share this information with. Yet...

</EntryText>
</EntryData>

Now for some of the months (June, August and October) the structure is slightly different, check it out:

Quote:
<EntryData Subject="Re: UK iMac ShipmentDate" Postdate="03.08.04">
<UserName />
<EntryText>

Decided enough is enough. Back to the Book of Star, S&S and HWAU for some serious research. There must be a way to solve this.

</EntryText>
</EntryData>

Note the "Re: UK iMac ShipmentDate" what does this mean? I've not had time to google it yet as I'm at work - anyone else thinks this is weird?

For the December post the XML is different again:

Quote:
<EntryData Subject="hmm" Postdate="21.12.04">

And one last thing, we haven't got a November entry, but at the root of each XML file there is a <Data Postid> tag which has got what looks like a hash of some sort, could this be a way to retrieve November's entry? Although to be honest, I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.

EDIT:

We know Jon Harker is an Apple fan as his laptop is an Apple laptop - either a iBook or a PowerBook - just a stab in the dark, but does this have anything to do with the apples in the kitchen?

Does anyone know when the latest iMac was launched? I can't get the info as my workstation is being badly behaved.

"Apple unveils the New iMac G5" on August 31, 2004.

password door upstairs

I can't stop thinking that we should be able to get the password for the door upstairs. In his diary, Jon points out the article of the BBC at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3639679.stm. Some 'Jon' is responsing and gives his opinion about passwords. He mentions that a password should consist of words and numbers.

In the article the writers says that family names, pets and football teams were all used by those questioned for the article.

I'm wondering what passwords y'all tried? I tried (to start with the article) Jons footballteam and the names of the players. Also tried the given passwords from Jons respons on the article.

I even tried some words from the band where he has been, The Bazooka's. See Jons name mentioned at this page (can't hear the words of 'phone in sick tomorrow', I'm too Dutch to really understand what they are saying..).

maybe we can find a password if we concentrate together, for the door, or for the contract at s&s (second password). let's mention all the words we've tried, because Jon says in his emails we should be able to get more information from his diary.

By the way, only tried all those mentioned above at the door, not at the contract with s&s!

The dates in the cache are still far from reliable: entry 23rd july: Quardrophenia/brighton beach. This actually took place on 24th july.

It gets worse: 6th july " I celebrated with some American
friends today." this was 4th july before 12/21 update which was off course something to celebrate with the yanks Wink

I've started to draw up a timeline to see how all events relate. More later!

Which password did you use to login? If I try with the new and improved password the "american friends" is placed correctly on 4th of july, though quadrophenia is indeed still mentioned on the 23rd. I'll log in with ibidem later. Gotta get some groceries first or I'll starve.

Login with Ibidem and it's still 6th of July, I imagine all the other errors are still there as well.

Mistakes can be revealing?

Indeed... I think it's a Very Interesting Question as to whether or not we can get into the upstairs room or the contract at this point. Jon's article talks about good passwords, but his (ibidem, confer) are pretty horrible. The good one he has (14bbb942) is letters and numbers, but doesn't seem related to his article at all.

On the SS site.. you might only get 3 chances at it before having to reload the page... it comes up with a "your acquistion is at risk" message, and might be locked down after that. Also, putting in passwords close to Jon's (I tried 14bbb941), gets you some warning message as well.

And the one good password that he has wasnt made by him but given by S&S Confused Could it be a coincidence and the Jon on the BBC website isnt the same as ours?

There has been speculation that if we could crack the S&S password system we'd be able to log into Den Horen's account and see what we can find there. So far I've had a look Jon's acct name/password and my own, but the only thing I can find is that it seems to be a hex number (which was also posted earlier somewhere else I hasten to add! Very Happy). However I'm not a cypher expert so dont even really know where to begin Question Question

From Jon's new cache entry:

Quote:
I will call my supporters will further instructions at dawn at the
beginning of next month.

Hang on, call us? Have we given him our phone numbers in a sign-up that I don't remember, or will we just get an MP3 'voicemail' emailed to us? Either way, we could get to hear the man's voice...

You can try it as often as you want to. It keeps saying: "your acquistion is at risk"...that's all
