I personally doubt that any "events" are planned for the 3rd of January - instead, I think the mission is to test our (a) creativity and (b) skills of perception / observation.

I agree. With the vast amount of potential players scattered all around the world, it would be hard to do something IRL that everyone would be able to know of.

My advice is on the third, be as creative and perceptive as you can be Wink

I wouldn't say make stuff up, as you never know what the definition of "interesting" is until you live it. I know what I'll be doing on the third (travelling, actually, but hopefully I'll have my digital camera with me so I can take the images.. unless of course, the "images" means mental images. I don't know.. )

Oh, and Spaceboy, I recieved the exact same emailed reply when I inquired as to whether it would be worth their time investigating me when I lived in NZ.

You know, the only thing I can think of that would, you know, cause something observable worldwide would be something big. Like Nuclear holocaust, or maybe another huge terrorist attack. I know I still remember the 12/9 here in New Zealand, how.. blank everyone was, all day, just constantly hearing about it..

hrmmm.

It's kind of funny to me that to us it will always be 9/11, and those NZers were a day ahead. And they couldn't see it coming Wink

Being from Melbourne, and a reader of the Age, the article listed
http://theage.com.au/articles/2004/12/17/1102787276356.html
seemed fairly out of character for the Age(generally not any type of tabloid newspaper, and that is hardly concrete news). Also, the author, Marc Moncrief, doesn't seem to appear anywhere else on the site, and would this seem a likely first-time-reporter article? Anyway, while the Age is certainly OG, the article may be IG. Xmas now obviously, but when holidays end I'll have a look through the 18/12 Age and see if I can find the article in print from a library.
I've just signed up to the site, and haven't gotten the reply yet, but hopefully listing 'Melbourne' as my location will help. Here's hoping no-one in freaky masks start following me...

ok ok weird..well some new opperatives are taking the same assignment as we are. they have blogs here. http://neurotrip.blogspot.com/ http://isthisthingswitchedon.blogspot.com/2004/12/knocked-wind-out-of-my-sails.html#comments
Now on what we see that is out of the ordinary..i'mthinking we'll see minor things on the internet and outside or even on the television. This is starting to spook me out. I mena this might not be a arg at all, but a real thing, or it could be a IRG an Imersive Reality Game.

I registered (live in US), and got this email. It is similar to the standard first mail, but does not include "Asia-Pacific Quadrant". Put in your city and state, and it should work fine. I really hope this extends to the States!

The mail:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Dear Applicant

Thank you for expressing interest in Neurocam.

Your application has been forwarded to a designated officer within the Human
Resources Security Division so that our organization can further evaluate
your suitability for recruitment.

In the interest of facilitating an expedient assessment, the Human Resources
Security Division is currently implementing a series of background checks.
We apologize in advance for the potentially intrusive nature of these checks
and assure you that Neurocam International only undertakes this course of
action in the interest of protecting our propriety operational procedures.
Any information gathered from this historical evaluation will be treated as
strictly confidential.

If your application is successful you will be contacted by Mr. Charles
Hastings, Head of Neurocam International's Operations Division. Mr. Hastings
will further inform you about the nature of the tasks Neurocam requires you
to complete.

An unsuccessful application will result in the cessation of all further
correspondence between Neurocam and yourself.

Neurocam appreciates that in 83.6% of instances new applicants experience a
desire to enquire about many issues which may further enlighten them as to
the true nature of Neurocam. Due to the need to maintain a high level of
operational security Neurocam is unable to provide much of the information
desired by entry level participants.

We can, however, inform you of the following - Neurocam is a process which
you are already part of.

Having said this, if you do have any questions, please feel free to contact
me directly. I will endeavor to answer as many of your enquiries as
Neurocam's Organizational Security Guidelines allow.

Thank you once again for expressing interest in Neurocam. I hope that your
application will be successful and that I will soon have the pleasure of
working with you.

Warm Regards,

Maxwell Knight
Head, Human Resources Security Division

This struck me as interesting:
Quote:
Your application and aptitude in this assignment will be
the basis for consideration for operational integration.

I think they're looking for field operatives to do real-world stuff.

I think the questions should be changed though, to something like

"Would you be willing to blindly jump into a car driven by masked strangers and go deface a billboard?"

I'm sure that there will not be a real-world event on the 3rd. Remember, 4PM and 9PM occur at different times throughout the country.

By the way,

It has been confirmed that somebody at Neurocam reads these forums- everything has been removed from the /images/ directory.
Too bad. Unfortunately, even a puppetmaster cannot control everything.

You're allowed to hide the stuff whatever way you want. And we're allowed to find it.
I have compiled all of the images into the attached file.

Pay particular attention to testimonials.gif
Can anybody decompile it into individual frames for me?

[totally useless OG musings]i just watched "The Game" tonight, and the whole time i was thinking "wow, this is like NeuroCam... do i really have any idea of what i'm getting into?" and then i realized something: i don't care. "The Game" was a kickarse movie, and i can only hope that NeuroCam will be half as cool. so go rent "The Game". and "Donnie Darko". somebody needs to make an ARG about that movie. they could tie it in with the director's cut coming out in February.[/totally useless OG musings]

I'm starting to see why they're called "ARGs"... it's not because it's short for "Alternate Reality Game". It's because that's the phrase you continually want to yell while playing them.

[reply to OG musings]I agree - but I haven't seen The Game. ... and didn't the director's cut of Donnie Darko come out a couple months ago? *remembers going to see it*

[/end thread hijack]

I'm really abnormally excited for Jan 3. All of my friends think I'm a loser, but I'm already psyched to be walking around with a watch and a notepad. Woot - change of pace! Very Happy
