Early Risers

This show requires that you have to suspend your belief on many instances, maybe just to give the eps that weird, off-center feel. For me, one of the glaring examples of this is after Jim is woken up at just after 7AM. Sure he was called lazy (which is kind of odd, since many of us are not farmers or military so 7AM is still a respectable time to get up) but the really odd thing is that Jim decides to call his office this early in the morning. Like there would actually be anyone there at 7AM. But lo and behold, Grace is actually there! Does she actually live in a room in the back of the office? Then she goes on to recount that Ira Glassman has also already asked about Jim. How early do these people get up?!? I don't know too many government deskjobs that are this dedicated.

Then, Jim looks out the window, and there is Mary slipping out of her clothes, getting ready to do a "trick." It's still only around 7:15AM and she's already gotten dolled-up, travelled to Martha's, now getting undressed, etc!?! You can even see Mary's customer brushing his teeth in the window reflection. He must really be an "early riser" to arrange to have a "dance" first thing in the morning. Smile

I guess things like this can happen. Maybe there is some strange time shift phenomena going on that places Push a few hours behind everyone else. Or maybe, I'm just not used to swallowing this many grains of salt with my Television.

If I'm not mistaken, there was also some reference at some point to Grace having been there on the WEEKEND as well! Thus, three possible theories emerge:

1) Jim Prufrock and/or the IRS is a heartless, cold taskmaster, given to driving its employees to work insane neverending hours in aesthetically displeasing office spaces for little or no pay.

2) Grace is so totally consumed with her obviously unrequited lust for Jim that she stays in the office 24/7 in the vain hope of catching his eye, just once, perhaps maybe this is the night he'll ask HER for that slow dance....

3) Grace is an evil surveillance robot automaton programmed by Silas Bodnick, Jim's ex-wife, and the Watermark LLC group to come and go, talking of Michaelangelo, but never to actually LEAVE the confines of Jim's office.

Discuss.

there was also an obvious repeated reference to 7pm in the first episode. Lucky sevens?

Let's not forget about the first show and Jim showing up at 7:31 am and Grace was allready....well.....gracing the place. As it was, the Fax was sent/received at 7:42 am....so does this mean that this particular branch of the I.R.S. is actually working HARD for our hardearned blood encrusted sweat stained Taxes?

I doubt it....

But it seems that grace is usually around the office by 7:00 am bright eyed and bushy tailed...I personnally don't think it's worth considering as a clue...as for our dear Mary, I think she had come back from Sloman's and/or slow dancing and relaxing....err....conversation...(yeah right) and was undressing in her room to go to bed after a hard...umhumm...night's work....

I can gulp down the idea that maybe this branch of the IRS really works hard for "our" money...but in Mary's case...do you think she lives at Martha's? And what are the chances that Jim would be placed right next to her room? Plus, he has been there for a week already and he never found out that Mary was living right next door? If was Jim, that would be a topic I would mention the next time I saw her but it never seems to enter his mind. And why not just see her at her room? It's much closer than walking over to Sloman's.

One thing that tends to discount the idea that Mary lives at Martha's is that Martha runs a pretty tight ship. She seems to know everyone's business. If she didn't think Jim should be sleeping at 7AM, I would think she would have the same rule for all of her tennants. I don't think Mary would be allowed to go to sleep. Smile

And the other thing is the reflection in Jim's window. First you see Mary's reflection as she is unzipping her clothes and bending over (creating a visual of her and Jim blending together). But the next time you see this shot, there is a reflection of some guy brushing his teeth (which also blends with Jim but doesn't create the same erotic visual as the previous shot.) This tends to make me think that there is someone else in the room with Mary. Maybe the guy is her room mate, and they know each other well enough that Mary feels comfortable stripping down in front of him before she goes to bed to crash. Personally, I don't think this is Mary's actual abode.

Ultimately, I agree with you that this is really not much of a clue. It's more of an attempt to understand the "plot rules" of the Push universe. Since there is so much quirky stuff going on, the better a person is able to see past the contrived, odd behavior that the Push writers use to muddy the waters, the better they are at discerning the real clues.
