Maybe we should start a new thread for all the information from this new site (which is one cool interface - but sucks for people with work computers that don't allow flash).

Greek Gods in the Email

So far, trying to open all the Greek pages, finding those in the list and opening them, or clicking them in a semblence of order, did not yield anything new.

Next spec: What do these particular ghods have in common?

Demeter - Goddess of agriculture and one of the twelves great Olympian gods. With a daughter, Persephone, she was also goddess of the afterlife - men could reach Elysium after death through the practice of her Mysteries. Parents were Cronus and Rhea.

Athenea - Goddess of war and crafts. She sprange fully grown and armed from the head of Zeus. She was one of the original twelve great Olympian gods and reknowned for her martial skills. Her gift to teach the art of war was unsurpassed. Parents were Zeus and Hera. Siblings were Hephaestus, Ares, and Hebe.

Uranus - the son of Gaea, is the ancient master of and personfication of the sky, which was once thought to be made of a solid dome of bronze. Uranus took Gaea as his lover and consort and became the first ruler of the pantheon of gods but was later castrated and deposed by his son, Cronus.

Hermes - God of trade, messengers, roads and flocks and one of the twelve great Olympian gods. Sometimes, you can hardly see his winged sandals and cap, in other pictures they are the central focus. He was the messenger of the gods. Mother Maia is the daughter of Atlas, father was Zeus.

Coeus - One of the elder Titan-gods. He was known for his questining mind and intellect. The younger Titan-gods heard what Coeus said and respected him.

Hebe - was the wife of the fabled Herakles (Hercules) of Olympus and the goddess of youth. Others claimed the love of Hercules as well but Hebe was his only wife. Daughter of Zeus and Hera, Sister to Hephaestus, Ares and Athena.

Artemis - The goodess of hunting, wild animals, and protectress of young children. Her arrows, said to bring sudden death, can also sometimes heal. She was one of the twelve great Olympian gods. Sister to Apollo, daughter of Leto and Zeus.
(of note: Roman name - Diana)

Oceanus - was the god of the River Ocean that encircled the earth and was the first-born of the Titans. He remained neutral in the Titan war and with his wife, Thethys, fathered not only Hera, but also Demeter and Hestia after they were disgorged by Cronus. Parents Uranus and Gaea. Brother to Coeus, Cronus, Hecatonchires, Cyclope. Other child, Iapetus, fathered Atlas, Prometheus and Epimetheus.

Since Kona posted the greek pantheon, I've done the same for the norse gods:

Giant: child of Ymir, parent of Loki and Bestia - the Giants in Norse mythology served as antagonists to the gods, as well as representing the raw forces of nature.

Bestia: child of Giant, parent of Odin, Ve, and Vili, spouse of Bor - the frost goddess, her primary duty was to train her children for the tasks that lay ahead.

Vili: son of Bestia and Bor, brother of Odin and Ve - he was responsible for giving thought and motion to the humans.

Njord: son of Odin and Frigg, brother to Hiemdall, Tyr, Bragi, Hermod, Hoder, Balder, and Thor - he was the god of Summer, and is always a handsome young man in the prime of youth.

Thor: Son of Odin and Frigg, brother to Hiemdall, Tyr, Bragi, Hermod, Hoder, Balder, and Njord - the second most powerful of the gods, after his father, Thor wields a magical hammer and has powers over the sky and thunder.

Magni: son of Thor and Jamsaxa, brother to Modi - to survive Ragnarok, he kills Nidhogg and inherits Thor's magical hammer, Mjollnir.

Bragi: Son of Odin and Frigg, brother to Hiemdall, Tyr, Thor, Hermod, Hoder, Balder, and Njord. The god of Music & Poetry.

I note that in both the red and blue messages, the most powerful of the gods (Odin for the norse, Zeus for the greek) is missing, although parents and children are listed.

some thoughts

Some things I noticed on www.mythosphere.com/treeoflife_html:

When a god/goddess is selected and you're in the Menu, the boxes in the flash can be 'dragged and dropped'. This had my hopes up (I took the 'beyond the myth' seriously), but so far-no dice.

There are a few errors in text summarys for Ymir, Fenris, Vali, and others. However, it's just ''s' where a apostrophe should be, so I think that its probably an accident in coding and not significant.

Most of the summary text is just factual but under Magni it ends with "Will he know the fate of leadership?" This just sounds awkward.

The summary info on Balder talks about the significance of the summer solstice. Is it coincidental that we got this link now? Beats me.

The greek god/godesses are color coded red, blue and purple. I think its just to help distinguish the generations but I thought I'd just toss it out.

So those are some things I've noticed. I feel like something's staring me right in the face but for now I'm stuck. Any ideas??

I found the source site for treeofmyths.html:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.theoi.com
Follow the family tree link for a familiar but more detailed chart. Also, the info about each god/goddess is identical to that of treeofmyths.html.

I still don't know what to mail the guides though.

[SPEC] The meaning beyond the myth....

Greek:
Chaos: is a name meaning the great gaping void, some think it means the gap between earth and sky...

Norse:
Ymir: a frost giant created in Ginnungagap at the fusion of fire and ice...

http://www.pantheon.org/articles/g/ginnungagap.html
Ginnungagap ("seeming emptiness"), in the cosmology of Norse mythology, is the primordial void separating Niflheim and Muspell, the land of eternal ice and snow and the land of eternal heat and flame. ...
Here life began, and the first living thing was a frost giant. (See: Ymir.)

So in both Everything began in the Void (or the "Gap between the worlds")...

SOLVED....methinks

Hey all,
I think I got it!!! Find the letters of m-y-t-h in order in the message (include the God's name only if it is included in the original text), then take the next word to create the message of what we need. As follows:

DEMETER was the Goddess of agriculture and one of the twelve great Olympian gods. With a daughter, Persephone, she was also goddess of the afterlife - men could reach Elysium after death through the practice of her Mysteries.
ATHENEA was the Goddess of war and crafts. She sprang fully grown and armed from the head of Zeus. She was one of the original twelve great Olympian gods and reknowned for her martial skills. Her gift to teach the art of war was unsurpassed.
URANUS, the son of Gaea, is the ancient master of and personification of the sky, which was once thought to be made of a solid dome of bronze. Uranus took Gaea as his lover and consort and became the first ruler of the pantheon of gods but was later castrated and deposed by his son, Cronus.
HERMES God of trade, messengers, roads and flocks and one of the twelve great Olympian gods. Sometimes, you can hardly see his winged sandals and cap, in other pictures they are the central focus. He was the messenger of the gods.
COESUS One of the elder Titan-gods. He was known for his questioning mind and intellect. The younger Titan-gods heard what Coeus said and respected him.
HEBE was the wife of the fabled Herakles (Hercules) of Olympus and the goddess of youth. Others claimed the love of Hercules as well but Hebe was his only wife.
ARTEMIS The goddess of hunting, wild animals, and protectress of young children. Her arrows, said to bring sudden death, can also sometimes heal. She was one of the twelve great Olympian gods.
OCEANUS was the god of the River Ocean that encircled the earth and was the first-born of the Titans. He remained neutral in the Titan war and with his wife, Tethys, fathered not only Hera, but also Dememter and Hestia after they were disgorged by Cronus.
A GIFT TO SEE WHAT OTHERS CAN NOT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THOR This powerful god is the son of Odin, and second in command under his father. He wields a magical hammer and has powers over the sky and thunder. A life long feud with Loki plagues him.
BESTLA The Frost Giantess Bestia or Bestla, married the son of Buri, Bor, and gave birth to the three Gods; Odin, Vili and Ve. She is daughter to Bolthorn and Ymir, and sister to Mimir. Her duty was to train Odin, Vili, and Ve for what lay ahead.
MAGNI Son of Thorr and Jarnsaxa; extremely strong at birth. To survive Ragnarok, Magni kills Nidhogg. He survives with his brother Modi. The brothers inherit Mjolinir.
MODI, son of Thorr and Jarnsaxa. He is very brave. Destined to survive Ragnarok, will he know the fate of leadership?
NJORD Also called Niord, he is the god of Summer and is always depicted as handsome, what ever he is doing. He is always a young man in the prime of his youth.
VILI Brother of Odin; alternately, one of his other names (Odin-Vili-V He gave the humans thought and motion. He is identified with Hoenir by some and only as part of Odin by the others.
BRAGI The god of music and poetry. Idun is wife to Bragi, and to her, can be remembered as another of the sons of Odin.
GIANT The Giants in Norse mythology not only serve as antagonists for the gods, they also represent the raw forces of Nature in their primitive form. blah blah...you don't need the rest of this one.
A DUTY TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS CAN NOT
I just emailed the Guides and wohoo now I can sleep.
Crossing my fingers,
Stiffy77
