UPDATE: New live Journal entry 22 June

Quote:
Sunday, June 22nd, 2003
7:58 pm I left the Justice Department this morning and walked to the Portrait Gallery and then to Chinatown for lunch. After lunch I zigged and zagged up to Thomas Circle and then on to Scott Circle, which is actually fairly square-like. Then it was on to Washington Circle, completing my tour of the circles. From there I walked down the diagonal to the Executive Offices, then across the way to the White House and took the tour. That took for-freaking-ever to get into. And then it was back to the aquarium.

And so ends my walkabout.

Some weekends it's hard to be homeless with self-medicating. At this rate I'm going to become an addict. Je suis une futurejunkie.

It seems Ewan has been doing a lot of touring around!

Maybe someone local to where he is could offer to meet him for coffee somewhere.

A sudden random thought:
If Ewans walking route were to be traced on a map of [wherever he is], would it produce a *shape* of any importance?

Just wondered, is all. Lurk-Mode reactivate...

I'll take a stab at the map, PF, but more bad news - the White House doesn't have tours for the general public any more. Only school and veterans/military groups can get tours. The whitehouse website doesn't make it real obvious, but that's it. And only Tuesday-Saturday mornings. Not Sunday afternoons. Research issue? Of course if he's delusional, that covers any oversights . . .

Maps

I don't think the spacial orientation is meaningful, but here is a very bad attempt (I only have Paint here) to show the locations in the 4 day tour of DC. Pink areas are locations he mentioned, and although I tried to draw lines they get lost so I numbered them. Also badly.

No letters, PF, but maybe constellations? I kinda think not but here you go. Note that getting to many of the spots also involves choices about which way to go around the block. I assume the shortest routes but who knows.

June 19 - 1. GW Masonic Memorial; 2. Pentagon; 3. Washington Monument (Ewan called it the "National Monument")

June 20 - 1. Capitol; 2. National Gallery of Art; 3. National Archives (across the street, not really "up Constitution Ave"); 4. Justice Dept; 5. Federal Triangle metro station; 6. Aquarium (actually downstairs in the Dept of Commerce); 7. around the Ellipse; 8. Federal Triangle.

June 21 - 1. Federal Triangle; 2. Washington Monument (got the name right this time); 3. Reflecting Pool; 4. Korean War Memorial; 5. Lincoln Memorial; 6. Pentagon (not really a place you walk to, frankly); 7. Jefferson Memorial; 8. Holocaust Musem; 9. Smithsonian Castle; 10. Natural History Museum; 11. Justice Dept.

June 22 - 1. Justice Dept; 2. National Portrait Gallery; 3. Chinatown (several block area); 4. Thomas Circle (why zig and zag when it's straight up Massachusetts Ave from Chinatown . . .); 5. Scott Circle (boring); (skips the much more interesting Dupont Circle and now must zig and zag to get to); 6. Washington Circle; 7. diagonal (down Pennsylvania Ave) to the Old Executive Office Building (Ewan got name partially right); 8. White House/tour; 9. Aquarium.

Ewan was never one to take the paths clearly marked, or to ask for permission to go where he wished.

He was always such a busy bee. I can just see him walking all over D.C. on his three day walkabout... I've visited all of the places he went but I haven't found any clues. Yet.
