I got one of these today, on an address that is a big spam target (Dang mailing lists Wink

). Taking a look at the headers, there are two parts, a plaintext and an HTML part, each consisting of one word. The mailer path goes from the real server, to a cable modem, and then on to my mail server, meaning it was almost certainly spoofed. By the cable modem connecting directly to my mailserver, they will get a mail failure if the address doesn't exist. I think this is just a large scale email address scan.
