[SPEC...wishful spec, grasping at straws] Email Whitespace Now that we have a separate forum instead of a single thread, I suppose I will repost this as a new thread with the proper subject line. Apologies to those that already saw it:
It could be nothing, but someone in chat brought up the fact that spaces between words are a little funky in the email. You may not notice it in HTML, as browsers tend to coalesce multiple spaces to a single space, but in the original email text, a good number of words have two or three spaces between them, when they should only have one.
My gut reaction is that this is an artifact of someone taking text that was originally line-break'ed and formatted for 80 columns, who converted it to remove the line breaks, making flowing paragraphs that will fit any width mail window. After all, most of the odd spaces are at multiples of around 70-80 characters, and most word wrapping tries to keep lines under 72 or 75 characters.
On the other hand, there are still a good number of spaces that do not fit into the above pattern. I would really hate for this to be the end, and be forced to patiently wait until Q4...and it *is* possible to steg data into ASCII whitespace.

xxxx I wouldn't know about the spaces, plus I didn't even e-mail "Dinah", but there is another thing about that e-mail that I think is weird.
They "xxxx"ed a bunch of things, like their names, and possibly the game name, etc. However, in the e-mail at 23:48 there is this bit:
Quote:
It'll be a different matter when the game is live and people are xxxx
but in this instance I think a Vigenere cipher would require too much
effort for the average person.
Doesn't it seem like it should be "when the people are playing "? But why xxxx that - it doesn't give anything away? It could be, as sapagoo suggested, "when the game is live and people are dead "
So, any other suggestions on what it could have been?

I threw out the idea about the spacing, but after staring at the email, I can't see any sort of pattern.

I know it sounds DEAD stupid, but that still made me a little uneasy when I first read the email and thought that.

Hello, and welcome here
It could have been "HERE", but then it's still not clear why they felt the need to xxxx it out... I wonder if this was just a read herring. Or maybe we'll find out "when the game is live" and we are xxxxing

I'd say welcome and thank you for contributing in the thread where this *does* belong, but I'm just a bystander. ;)

Perhaps they didn't want to use the word "play" to get away from the fact that it's meant to be much more than a game...?
